Did you see the big blaze when they were burning the Coke?
To add to the list of expenses, getting rid of the cocaine, do they burn it or flush it or whatever ??
Obviousely all done under armed guard with a dozen high paid Watchers !

Maybe they could sell the coke back to the South Americans at a 50% discount or similar to pay for the overtime?  Assuming it hasn't gone missing from Gardai custody.

Maybe by capturing this huge drug haul we have created an even bigger problem.

Fer starters the over-time bill fer Gardai, Army rangers, Naval services, Revenue officers.
And add on the solicitors and barristers fees fer the 25 crew members who will ALL obviousely "No Nothing", prob not have a word of english between them requiring translators and all be entitled to free legal aid, add on the court costs and that surely is up to another €2.2 Million, and that's only the warm-up, we are still stuck with the Fookin ship currently on a 24-hour armed guard with Docking fees that has No owner and tied up in so much red tape that it can prob never be sold.

Us the taxpayer could be looking at a €5 million+ bill before all this is settled !

ARW and Navy don`t get overtime ( none of the armed forces do )

Totally agreed, the Fookin thing is still docked in Cork harbour with 24-hour armed gardai minding it.

I would love to know whom they are minding it from ?
The only people I can think of that might have any use fer it are the Cobh teenagers fer a birra weekend 'Bushing' !

Chain of custody.  They have to be able to prove the 'stuff' they seized out at sea is the same cocaine as tested in the State lab is the same cocaine produced in the court case.  Otherwise the accused could claim they were transporting talcum powder and someone must have switched it while the boat was unattended.  Reasonable doubt and all that!  I'm sure stranger things have happened in court!

Also I have a vague memory from decades ago of drugs been seized in Dublin airport and they were stored overnight in the nearby Santry Garda station.  Or maybe it was a lorry full of drugs?  Anyhow, someone broke in overnight and stole it back!  People do weird things when drugs are involved...
