Airport expecting a busy one
« on: December 19, 2025, 08:54:20 am »
Record 1.8m passengers due at Dublin Airport over Christmas

Quote
Dublin Airport expects a rise of 22% in passenger numbers on Christmas flights this year compared to last year.

Operator daa said this will be the airport's busiest festive period ever with a record 1.8 million passengers due to pass through the departures and arrivals halls.

Last year, 1.47m passengers travelled through the airport, around 20,000 fewer than in 2023, which the daa said was due to the impact of the passenger cap.

An average of around 96,000 people are expected per day in the 19-day period which began yesterday and will run up to 5 January.

The busiest days are expected to both be Sundays - the 21st and 28th - with over 100,000 passengers due to go through the airport each of those days.

Scary to think how many PUCs the stupid Fuks are fecking throwing away over the next fortnight.  Still as FN say, you'll earn more by charging less.  Lots of opportunities for snatchers though  ;)

IIRC, FN said you won't necessarily earn less but the firm will earn more. The breakeven points the firm forecast predicted a breakeven fare of c.€5 for the firm and c.€25 for the driver.

To be fair, they're a great bunch of lads in Free Now but they have to make their drivers give discounts to compete with Uber and Bolt both of whom habitually offer riders up to 50% off the metered fare.

I should have noted when FN published those forecasts they promised Taxi Saver rates wouldn't apply to DAP pickups - or during "peak hours" - so the computations don't take DAA fees into account in calculating the breakeven point for drivers, obviously the firm doesn't contribute to such fees so it's breakeven point remains at the c.€5 fare level.

I've never done a Zone 18 pick up for Free Now. I done 3 for Uber. All 3 were metered fares given to me as or before I dropped other Uber rides at DAP. I noticed that Uber only allows €1.50 of the €3.00 per job DAA fee commission free. As it happens two of the three I done were on the same Friday afternoon/evening and, on that day (for whatever reason), the entry and exit barriers to Zone 18 were open so I was wasn't charged the €3.00 so getting the two €1.50s added to the fare I entered (I didn't add the €3.00s that I didn't pay) contributes to the €10.00 that DAA charged me for an annual permit, I guess.

As an aside, I since realised that there is an Airport Drop Off fee (also €1.50) added to an Uber ride I took to DAP as a rider. The driver dropped me at the terminal so never paid any such fee to DAA. As we know, Uber determines what tolls/fees are added to fares so it was nothing to do with the driver. Maybe they have elected to split the pick up fee between drop offs and pick ups for some odd reason?

Actually, sorry my mind isn't what it used to be! The €1.50s aren't actually added to the fare you enter they are deducted in the first instance and then added back as commission free payments... so I didn't gain €3.00 from the two of them, I only gained the commission amount i.e. 36c! There's no telling how many €0.36s I'd need to cover the €10 annual permit fee but it's a lot!
