Man, 64, charged over firearms and drugs seizure in Limerick city

Quote
A 64-year-old taxi driver has appeared before Limerick District Court charged in connection with the seizure of firearms and drugs in the city earlier this week.  John O'Neill with an address at 65 Haymarket, Cathedral Place, Limerick is charged with possession of 4 Glock handguns and 13 rounds of ammunition on 22 September.  Mr O’Neill is also charged with possession of €3,790 worth of cocaine and possession of the drugs for sale or supply.  The court heard that the bedroom rented by the accused was searched by gardaí under warrant, where the handguns and drugs were allegedly found.

Detective Garda Declan O’Halloran gave evidence of formally arresting Mr O’Neill at Henry Street Garda Station yesterday.  He told the court that Mr O’Neill made no reply when charged and cautioned with the offences.  Gardaí objected to bail being granted to the accused.

Judge Patricia Harney refused bail given the serious nature of the charges and remanded the accused in custody to appear before the court again on Tuesday, 29 September.

We're seemingly exempt from minimum sentencing regulations in respect of drug dealing... not sure about the firearms but, if found guilty, he might be out in time to collect his pension?

Think he was the medic/sponge man.  Any injured man would leap off the ground in a second with a swipe of that sponge.  Some sort of magic potion, I heard.
