Dublin councils forked over in excess of €200 million to private landlords in 2020.
The four local authorities in the capital lined landlord's pockets with €212 million from the Housing Assistance Payment last year.
Overall, landlords raked in a whopping €436 million from the State thanks to the social housing scheme, according to figures obtained by Newstalk.
The HAP is assistance given to private tenants by the State that covers part of their rent every week or month.
Nearly 60,000 tenants - itself an increase of over 7,000 in the last year - nationwide use the scheme
The €436 million is up nearly €100 million from the €355 million forked over in 2019.
In addition to Dublin, €45 million was paid in Cork, and nearly €26 million was handed over in Louth.
