Transport Police for illegal taxi drivers

Did anyone hear anything about this? I heard it mentioned on Newstalk this morning. The said the NTA and Guards don't have the man power to catch these illegal taxis and it would result in legit taxi drivers leaving the industry. Had to laugh as they definitely wont set this up. it would be great if they did though as with the rising cost of living more and more people will travel with these scumbags.

I think they need to change the way they catch these guys, the Guards should just keep pulling them over, take names of people in the car and keep it all on record, then charge them with the offence, simple. no one is flat out driving friends around all day.

Simple just make all fares paid by card .Then there would be a record of illegal operators .But of Course Taxi drivers would object ..wouldnt they .

Not true they are indifferent I had George Hook in the car once he said they cover taxi stories because they know taxi drivers will tune in and then their passengers get exposure to the Station .A taxi story is like an advert for the station .

Mark my words, the shit is going to hit the fan in a big way when one of these illegal drivers attacks or kills a passenger. Especially if its in a town where the illegal driver is well known, people will say "sure the dogs on the street knew he was at it, why wasn't anything done about it"? its usually the town scumbag who is at it as well so it wont be a surprise when they do something crazy.

Be careful what you wish for.  People might realise it's the legit drivers who rape women and deal drugs whereas the illegals keep their head down and just do their taxi job.  People might prefer illegals because it's safer for them

The NTA taxi inspectors already do 27 million inspections every year via their iPhones.  What more could they do?  If there are illegals working the rural towns, it's the locals that need to report them tbh - you can't have 700 taxi inspectors plonked in every town and village in the country.

Who are the Taxi Alliance of Ireland anyways?  They don't even have an instragram account or anything

At least we are Garda vetted and our cars are safe. I can think of 2 illegals in my town, very dodgy characters and their cars are death traps.
In my experience the illegals don't keep their heads down at all, there was one who threatened to do me serious harm a nut case who definitely shouldn't have been driving people anywhere. Another illegal who was a total perv with women passengers, word got around what he was like. These guys are just stupid usually and cant keep their heads down.

Im sure the locals do report them but the NTA are too busy to catch them all, also most Guards don't even know they have the same responsibility as the NTA to catch them, they think its just a matter for the NTA.
