College Green Civic Plaza
« on: October 11, 2022, 08:50:59 pm »
College Green is to go car free from next year under a newnplan brought forward by (guess who) Eamon Ryan
Bids have been put out for companies to design the new civic plaza
Owen Keegan (another C) said plans to reduce traffic in College Green were part of interim measures developed by DCC to take to maximise the benefits of the Bus Connects project.
“We intend to appropriate more of the road space and allocate it over to public space and pedestrian space”

As usual taxis were never considered or thought about and no mention of what drivers will do when the two valuable ranks (College Green and Fosters Place) will be removed.

Given that the cycle lobby group are not quite vocal why cant our reps make a stand against the above.

Over recent years taxi ranks in Dublin have been removed completely or reduced, its not good enough.

The bigger issue is will taxis be allowed use All the Bus lanes ?I am hearing there will be express bus lanes and contraflow bus lanes that we will not be allowed use .How come White Van Drivers or Taxi drivers are not represented on any of these planning bodies .You can be sure Safe Cycling are .

don't take anythin taxi related seriously.
fingal county council imploded the taxi industry in the middle of the night during the shamdemic up in malahide by pedestrianising new street so a couple of pubs can throw a few tables and chairs out when it's not freezin cold or lashin rain. thank god we don't get weather like that in ireland. whole thing funded by the NTA as well.

The loss of access to College Green for us will be disastrous, you'll be forced onto the quays  much earlier, and we've just lost a lane going down Winetavern St to the quays.

I remember a fella suggesting we try get somebody elected @the time there was ONE Green Councillor elected to Dublin Corporation and none on any other Dublin council .One in Cork and one in Dundalk .The Constituent suggested was Dublin South Central Now has Two Communists a Green and a Shinner TD .The Bike Nazis have taken over we let them 63 Million Euro for new sewer and bikelane in Marino .It wasent like we didnt know this was comming .What happens when congestion charges come along .Will we be charged like they want to charge you to drop off at the airport ?Will there be a bigger charge for Diesel cars like London charges if you enter a high emission Zone .More taxi men in Dublin than Publicans yet Publicans will be consulted on how to arrange furniture outside bars .How will old people get around on Bikes or Scooters or walking frames ?

It would seen silly to protest about a civic amenity. The city is largely a concrete jungle. Those who must live and/or work in such an environment are as entitled as anyone in suburbia or beyond to some quality of life free from motor vehicle emissions, noise and potential death through RTAs. Also, this is a prime (potential) tourist area with the college and the bank. No doubt alternative accommodation can be found for the taxi stand(s) if required, bearing in mind the significant reduction in the number of licensed taxis over the last few years. There should also be some thought given to safer, cleaner, environmentally friendlier forms of public transport such as (electric) scooters/bicycles, rickshaws, horse drawn hackney carriages, etc...

We coped with Grafton Street being pedestrianised, I dare say we'll cope with this too.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
