Cyclist done for speeding on N11

Triathlete fined by Gardaí for ‘reckless cycling’ by going 12km over speed limit

Quote
A man was pulled over and fined by Gardaí for “reckless cycling” when he broke the 50km speed limit on his bicycle.  John Blake, a triathlete from Dublin, was training for an Ironman event in Venice when he was stopped for going 12km above the limit on the N11 in Co. Wicklow.  Sharing a picture of his bike leaning against a Garda car to Instagram he captioned the snap: “Unfortunately I got done for speeding on the old N11 in Wicklow although it’s annoying to get done for 62km in a 50 zone it’s great to see the @gardainsta out in force doing their job #speedkills #speed #timetrial #cycling.”  He was also slapped with a €40 fine.

Blake told cycling website Road CC that while speed limits don’t apply to cyclists, “you can be done for reckless cycling depending on the cop that spots you. I guess the guy I got didn't like my bike.  "No Strava segment to show for it but it's definitely one for the grandkids," he joked.  Blake said it was hard to see Gardai as he was in a time trial session – where the goal is to complete a certain distance in the fastest possible time.  "The speed, he said, was aggressive. There are lads that hammer that section faster than me, for sure,” he said of the stretch of road where he was nabbed.  “They had a speed gun out… but would let me see it. His reference to the speed does match my ride, to be fair."

On one hand, fair play to him for getting up to 62km/hr on a bicycle!

On the other hand, a €40 fine!  Think it's €160 or €180 now for a car.  Where's the equality in that?  Won't someone think of the little childers?  :P

Great to see it. imagine getting caught speeding and bragging about it on social media, typical cyclist, they are always in the right.

maybe doing a time trial on a public road isn't the best idea. the guy is obviously a moron.

How could he be caught speeding, t1990... on a bicycle? Speed limits only apply to mechanically propelled vehicles.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.
