I don't think you can judge on the basis of Dublin -v- Roshcommon. I wasn't in the country on Saturday afternoon and I made no attempt to find somewhere to watch it, I didn't even check the result but I can safely say I know Dublin won comfortably. Sunday's game was a better watch and it's the other group that will provide the entertainment in two weeks time.

However, there is too much sport. The Sunday before last we had a double header in Croke Park, the Cricket World Cup final, the Wimbledon (Tennis) final and the British Grand Prix. This week we have the World Matchplay Darts, England -v- Ireland in Lords (starts tomorrow) and the Hurling Semis in Croke Park. How many TV sets does a man need?

I agree with DM (much as I hate to agree with DM) regarding funding for the GAA. The organisation can afford to undercut local pubs up and down the country so surely it can afford to stand on it's own two feet. As for being amateur... ask my testicles. I'm not a soccer fan but I used to be dragged to Dalymount on occasion in my pre-teenage years and I did stop off to attend a game in Dundalk earlier this year on the way back from the UK as my father was with me and he likes his soccer. Given that the weather was good it was enjoyable enough from the perspective of someone who wouldn't know what a good or bad game looks like.

I remember watching the best game of football that I have ever witnessed a few years back.
By coincidence Man Utd were also playing some very big Premier league game the same afternoon.

Later that night at work a fella sit's in to my cab,
He asks; "What was the score in 'The Match' ?
I tell him; "Two All",
"Who scored ?",
"Me Small fella got the First and we were 2 up at half-time, but de Kounts scrambled 2 poxy late goals",
"O..K.., who does your son play for ?",
"Ringmahon, Division 2 U-15's",
"O..K.., who were they playing ?",
"Churchvilla from Cloyne, our biggest rivals but still a single win in the last 2 games of the season will win us the championship",
"O..K.., Do you know how Man Utd got on in the Premier league ?"
"No, no idea !".
