You're learning, erm... given that you told us you didn't vote because you knew your latest selection (John Curran, FF) was "safe".

My single vote wouldnt of mattered as I said I dont want to facilitate some other dumb cunts second prefrence to be transfered .Look at Brid smith got more second prefrences than First prefrences .Pr is a joke you just get the next best worst candidate that you never voted for Curren is not Gone yet but is in Danger .FG have 2 candidates left but a lot of lefties might bring Kenny back at Currens expense any leakage from the two FG candidates and Curren is safe .

So, now you didn't vote because nobody has ever won or lost by one vote... If everybody thought like that how would anybody get elected?

Tell the truth, man. You just couldn't be arsed getting off the couch and covering the Chinese takeaway encrusted string vest with the cider soaked jumper.

"How do you distribute a surplus?

The most complex part of the counting process relates to the distribution of surplus votes. When a candidate exceeds the quota on the first count, the second preferences on each of their ballots are examined. The votes above the quota are allocated to the remaining candidates in the field based on the ratio of second preferences which has been determined by the examination of the votes.

After the first count, only the votes above the quota are examined and used to decide the ratio for the allocation of the surplus votes."

Curious... How do they work out which votes are deemed to be the surplus? If they just select the last stacks counted that could influence the transfers as boxes are usually opened in a sequence and the last boxes counted would be from a particular part of the constituency and may favour a particular candidate.

Its supposed to be a random batch of ballotts but years ago the returning officer think it might of been George Redmond selected bunches that favoured his mate Liam Lawlor .

The second paragraph of the piece you quoted may be a bit misleading in the "dummies guide", UW. It is the parcel of votes that brought the candidate above the quota that is examined to determine ratios, not "the votes above the quota". At the first count the parcel is obviously all votes cast for the candidate with the surplus. In subsequent counts it's comprised of all the votes in the transfer distribution that results in the candidate exceeding the quota. Under the manual counting system ballot papers are physically transferred from the top of the relevant pile used to calculate the ratio.

Its a monster change Hal nobody seen it coming as I said in an earlier post FG/FF should blend into one center right party and let the shinners form an alternative .Not sure how international investers would look on the Shinners in power Im doing the sums for a candidate I think Geno Kenny might catch Curren with Gogarty Transfers and Collins might catch Ardagh or Byrne .That fucks up the maths meand FF /FG come up short of a majority .FF are already loading their Rifles to take out Martin if he dosent deliver power .Im sitting in a room smirking drinking Jemmy with a head from FF and one from FG they are not enjoying their gargle .I might be if Joan Collins holds on .
Putin's hand is all over this.
