I have switched from cash to card in the past on Freenow.It has to be done on the payment screen of our app.

Just update everything DMG and restart the thing.

There are settings in the Sumup app that you may have messed with that can enable and disable your card reader.

Sumup app...account....payment methods...there you can toggle your reader on/off.

Doc have you updated the Sum Up app delete your old one and download it again .

the app is'nt looking for an update at the moment. deleting and reinstalling the app may or may not fix the problem. you don't want to find out when you tell someone that yes you take a card and then the yoke won't work outside their gaff. you'll look a right tool. I had to tell a couple of fares last night that it worked when it did'nt when they tapped their card and just write off the loss.

Doc I think I got a request E mail to update the app about six weeks ago Ill look and see if I still have the Email Just checked that Doc Sum Up added some new features and suggested we download a new version 6 weeks ago .

yes I've switched between card to cash on my own driver app loadsa times but the passanger can't switch from cash to card on their app. I have'nt fiddled with any sumup settings that I'm aware of.

I do preferably but sometimes people realise they have'nt enough dosh on them and it's handy when you can whip out the old white knight (ooooh matron!) instead of going on a goose chase to find an atm.
which brings me to my second problem that I've encountered a few times.
when passengers have their FreeNow payment set on cash they can't switch to an account payment.
I picked a girl up and it was a cash payment and she said I've no lolly I'll pay through the account instead.
she was fiddling like fuck with her phone and I eventually wooled it off her and it just would'nt let me highlight card over cash on her app.

That's a feature of the App, You can switch from card to cash (makes sense if the card is declined)
But you cannot switch from cash to card (I guess the developers decided there wouldn't be a need to do that?)
Incorrect, often you can switch to "account" even in the default is "cash". If the customer has a card registered on the app, but has chosen to have "cash" as the default, you will be allowed to swich to "account", but the client will have to have their app open and validate the transaction, unlike when "account" is the default and no validation is required. Customers who often order cabs for a third party sometimes choose to have their account set like this.

I'm upgraded last year, has its own 3g card built in. No issues with it.

the card reader worked grand at home today when tapping cards that were'nt freenow related transactions.
the problem started on june 27.
on june 27 I got an e-mail from freenow saying they were aware my vehicle license is expiring soon.
I musta been put on the terrorist watchlist or whatever.

What have My  Taxi got to do with Sum Up they are totally different companies its none of Sum Up business where you generate your income or how .But you could be on to something .I asked a question Do sum Up use the fradulant German app to process their payments if they do then that app has been ordered to desist from processing payments June 27th is when the German and British regulators ordered a cesation of the bogey german app.

From March 2012, myTaxi will provide its connected taxis with Wirecard AG’s mobile card reader solution. The mobile smartphone add-on is branded as the “myTaxi card reader”.

This allows taxi drivers to settle each taxi journey cash-free, including trips that were not ordered using myTaxi. The myTaxi card reader is currently being launched in Germany, Spain and the USA to accept MasterCards and EC-cards; Visa is currently being planned. Additional countries will follow soon.

Last year, myTaxi launched the first mobile payment system with “myTaxi Payment”, which allows taxi journeys to be paid directly from a smartphone to a smartphone in the taxi. The myTaxi app handles the payment process, and Wirecard processes and accepts the stored credit card data.

“The myTaxi card reader is an additional myTaxi Payment product. We offer drivers not only direct taxi ordering, but also the opportunity to settle the entire payment process for all of their passengers using myTaxi, in just a single app,” noted Niclaus Mewes. myTaxi’s co-founder and CEO continued “We have more than 20,000 connected taxis, which gives us the most extensive access to the taxi market compared to our competitors.”

Brigitte Häuser-Axtner, Vice President Digital Sales with Wirecard commented, “Together with myTaxi we have developed an innovative payment product, which is linked to the existing app. Thanks to this integrated concept it makes it easier for taxi drivers to accept payment.”

The myTaxi card reader uses the white label program offered by the payment specialist Wirecard. This comprises a hardware dongle with a magstripe reader, which is attached to the smartphone, and the associated card acceptance agreement. The payment application has been integrated into the existing myTaxi App for drivers, in order to guarantee fast, simple processing. The payment data transfer is encrypted, and is in line with the highest security requirements. The customer confirms payment by signing the smartphone’s touch screen. A receipt can be sent by e-mail if desired.

SumUp drives Taxi.de app payments

SumUPSumUp, the company that enables merchants to take debit and credit card payments with their smartphones, has entered into an exclusive partnership with Taxi.de, a mobile taxi-hailing service used by citizens across Germany. The ink has only just dried on a deal, which will enable Taxi.de to offer full card payment functionality through the SumUp API, so cab drivers will be able to accept debit and credit card payments from passengers through the Taxi.de app. In effect, the deal will address the inability of many German cabbies to accept card payments in an easy and affordable way.

Using the SumUp card reader, passengers will be able to pay for journeys by Visa, MasterCard, or debit card, and they will also be given the option to tip their driver when they pay for their ride. Drivers will be provided with free SumUp card readers, and there are no monthly charges or installation costs – the driver just pays a fixed 2.75% per transaction made. The service is free to use for passengers.

My sum up card reader will not accept payments that are not Tapless (under 30/50) fer the last month or so.
As in if a fare is a Tenner and the customer has a non tapless card, they insert the card and the machine just sez 'insert card' and 'remove card' constantly which usually results in a waived fare or a trip to an ATM.
