Solid connection is probably better anyway... presumably the oven would have to be pulled out to get at the connections hence the need for a hose.

We changed the gas oven to electric but we wanted to keep the gas hob(replaced also with a stainless brushed steel unit)...the wiring for the oven was always there so that was an easy install other than having to employ my kitchen fitting skills to make a unit to facilitate the narrower and shorter electric oven,when fitting the gas oven all those years ago when we moved in i had to remove the unit that was there to facilitate rails that the gas oven slid in and sat on,unfortunately it wasn't a straightforward job...are they ever...

It's never straightforward! Provided there's a 32 Amp MCB on the cooker circuit - there usually is - a nice new induction hob would be a piece of piss to install... but don't get her one that's restricted to c.13 Amps, they're kinda self-defeating.

The cooker switch and wiring was there,connecting it was the easy bit....the fukin around to facilitate it was the hard work,

Always had a Gas hob but switched to an induction one when we changed the kitchen, same adjustability as the gas but so much cleaner, had to buy a whole new set of pots though

What if any extra electrical work needed to be done to facilitate an induction hob?....purely to satisfy my curiosity mind.

Same as the oven... wire it into the cooker switch. Just make sure the cooker circuit is on a 32 Amp MCB (most likely is) and don't buy one that restricts it's total power to something like 13 Amps, they're designed to be plugged into a normal socket and pretty much defeat the purpose of having the power of induction. Expect to pay €400+ for a 4 ring or a bit more for 5 rings.

Now go and tell Mrs. Hal that TOO has one!

The only circumstance in which I'd avoid induction is if you have a mains (water) electric shower (8KW+) and a 63 Amp consumer unit (63A = rating of main fuse)... in that scenario you could be stretching the limit on the consumer unit and find that taking a shower while the Hob, Oven and maybe a washing machine / dryer / kettle are on will pop the main fuse... at least do the math first.

I did notice there's also a socket down low at the back of the oven.

And we do have a Triton T90 shower.

mmmm... stick with gas probably if the consumer unit is 63 Amp. Shower's probably 9KW, off the top of my head that's around 35 Amps, more than half capacity gone for a start. If the oven's taking 12 and a dryer is taking 10 that leaves fuck all before the main fuse pops... There's sites that can do the math for you, definitely worth a look before you leap!
