Vodafone down again.
« on: October 05, 2021, 03:19:01 pm »
I think it was the Third time this year or within 18 months that vodafone has gone down.

So it's 6pm on Monday, I'm washed, shaved, booted and suited and ready fer work, BUT NO FN APP !
I spend an hour at home trying to get it working with no joy, so I have no choice only to head out into the unknown and try to work the streets or maybe the ranks (God forbid !), I cruise my usual plots but it's 7pm of a Monday night and the pax are hardly out gagging fer Taxies.

Nothing doing in the burbs, I head fer town and all the ranks are full, I join 2 ranks and get out fer a smoke at both but no car moves within 10 minutes and I leave, eventually I find a very lucky cosy spot as Second car on the busy top Pana rank and I get a job within a few minutes, it was a nice job to Midleton but on the daytime rate only came in at 30 notes and I headed back to town and cruised some more. That was it fer a full 3 hours till 9pm all I had was the 1 rank job !

So I went fer grub, headed home to eat it and the app came back online, I went back out to work and rang the bell and a bit before the sun rose over Cork harbour on Tuesday morning.

Big companies have disaster recovery plans.
So...a three payg sim and an old unlocked phone.€20 top up and you're on the road in 5 minutes.
There's your own mini disaster recovery plan.

Like explaining tech to my Dad!
1.Go into a three store and ask for a pay as you go sim.
They will try and load it up with 20 notes there and then, but you could explain that you don't want to activate it straight away.
Now,you need a sim unlocked phone. If you bought a phone from the manufacturer, its probably unlocked. If your old phone is from Vodafone, you'll need them to give you the unlocking code.
Put the three sim in the old phone, type in the unlock code if asked then top up by 20 euros.

I think Belker is complaining he can't use FN when Vodafone is kaput.  Can he work FN using a back-up phone with a different number?

You make it sound so simple Van D but nothing simple about tech ever works fer me !
If'n I have something and it works then I just leave it de Fook alone !!

I'll give ya a bell if I'm ever stuck and thanks fer the reply.
