In general white Irish by accident of birth taxi drivers would be viewed as racist. In practice, in my experience, that's a somewhat unfair generalisation. Why would one work in a trade that is second only to the security trade in it's licensing of immigrants if one were racist. Surely that would create a terribly stressful existence? On the other hand there are many examples of institutional racism on the part of the judiciary - remember the Garda who physically and verbally assaulted an immigrant taxi driver being let off scott free, for example - and on the part of Gardai - keep remembering what the judiciary consider acceptable behaviour and wonder no more why that is the case.
