Pubs and taxi apps complain not enough taxis for a few hours at night

The simple solution is for people to have a bit of patience and wait for the taxi home. go get a bag of chips or try to pull someone while you wait.

It actually is a big problem in the cities at times I mentioned above, the icing on the cake was the recent Sunday night of the Cork bank holiday Jazz weekend, the heavens opened with torrential rain at 2.15am and continued fer an hour, it was Fookin carnage !

I had a pick-up fer an old regular at 2.30am that night and fer the first time ever I had to tell him that I could not drive safely in to the city center to get him and he would have to walk out of town in the pissing rain to meet me, which he did.

is there no chippers for them to wait in? that is what happens in my town, no need to get soaked while waiting.

Not meaning to be disrespectful 1990 but I don't think you understand the sheer volume of customers waiting fer taxies on the streets at the 'Jungle hours'. At the ultra peak hour of 2.30am any Saturday night there could be almost a thousand customers attempting to flag down a cab in Cork city, and I would imagine Dooblin is a lot worse.

The chances of flagging down a taxi from the doorway of a chipper are Zilch, I won't stop fer anyone even with a closed bag of food at that hour.

That is about the same everywhere but unfortunately there are not too many clever people on the street at 2.30am !

Maybe UBER will "organise" a riot or a rape and blame it on the lack of taxis.

Bar owners want to compete with nightclubs by staying open late. They don't serve food late. Drunks go to fast food joints where rows begin, and it's blamed on the taxi drivers, not the unionised bus drivers, the unionised DART drivers, or the unionised TRAM drivers.

Whoever promotes UBER U.S. style is most probably on the take.

The law would have to be changed to allow private cars to ply for hire as PSV's and that's unlikely in the current climate.

Uber are even advertising here ads on utbe etc
