I just leave me little door open merch and the metre works fine. If they want a receipt I just close the printer door. I get about a year out of a receipt roll.

That's even better again Horse. It more about the hassle of having to get new rolls as well.

On my semitron you put some tape over the sensor and you don't need a roll in it to close the fare.If someone requests a receipt yo u can reinstall the roll quickly and print away.

Where is the sensor ?

+1 on the Primus, just leave the roll in the printer but don't feed it into the drive until receipt required.

cool. thanks ken.
No worries, unfortunately my Hale meter has to print a receipt fer every fare, I used to have a switch on it but my Grumpy meter installer guy will no longer work on an 'ILLEGAL' meter as in a meter with a printer on/off switch on it.

My (also Hale MT5) installer doesn't give a flying fuck ... but then it'd be a bit ironic if he did given his criminal record. NSAI agents, Applus++++, don't seem to care either. I used to bypass the switch for sealing but lost interest in doing that after a year or three. Once I forgot to switch the printer on for a meter verification and your man told me he had to fail it 'cos he couldn't print a receipt - jogging my ever increasingly unreliable memory - in response to which I suggested I might know what's wrong. He gave me a sure we all know what's wrong you fucking hallfwit kinda look and said if I can sort it within 10 minutes he'll seal it. Needless to say it was sorted and sealed!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

"Where is the sensor ? "

There's a small square white sensor underneath where the roll sits on.Once it's covered with tape the printer thinks it has a roll inside.I'll try take a photo and upload it later.

Here Jack.

I dunno why I thought it was white but it's brown now and it looks like a little microchip. With this taped over with a tiny bit of duct tape the fare will close with it the roll in the rollers.

You can also use the remainder of the duct tape to stick a banana to a wall.

No problem, you're welcome. 8)

My fella does care these days, back in the day he was the fella installing the On/Off switches !
But today he is all Rules.  He must have a Cushty number going with the NTA and does not wish to mess it up ??

Anyways I store all the old receipts at home fer 2 weeks just in case there is an App or NTA query about a fare.

I get me receipt rolls online from this crowd below with Free delivery.
Works out cheaper to buy a years supply at a time and Free delivery is just a few days.
https://www.discounttillrolls.ie/taxi-supplies/
Works out at about .65 cent per roll, but ya never have to worry about going short is the best.
