That's an interesting one. Drivers setting their own rates individually might be better suited to country runs in our jurisdiction? There are quite a few drivers doing something similar (e.g. Roy's Ireland By Taxi) in less sophisticated ways.
You keep mentioning a different rate for Rural work .Are Cars cheaper in Down the Country ? Is Petrol or Diesel cheaper in Down the Country .Is suitability or NCT cheaper in down the country .Typical liberal thinking Fuck the little man im ok on my Manor .

Here Rodent .Ive given this a good coat of looking over .The Review and its outcome and Why .
All Dispatch licence holders must be registered for business in Ireland .Why UBER are not so Revenue do not get their VAT collected for them .

No limits on Commission As the BOOKING APPS are stand alone apps not TAXI APPS .This allows them to charge as much or as little commission as they like bigger commission bigger VAT take for State .

Wont have any impact on Fixed Fares UBER will continue the Fixed Fares others will join them .Questionable if Tap can join them as that is not what the shareholders bought into .

Outcome Fixed fares will become the norm until others are wiped out then the Freight will increase to minimum of 30% with fixed fare rates going up as the Apps rely on % of actual fares .Also increase in Booking or Tech fees on Passengers .UBER /Free Now will want their Pound of flesh on both ends .DRIVERS WILL GET WHAT THEY DESERVE .Who asked for this review ?

Lads be delighted they save on accountancy fees when paying their VAT so I suppose they will claim the victory .

How do fixed fares result in lower VAT bills? Am I reading this wrong?

They dont at the Moment but when UBER or Free Now increase the Freight then the VAT returned to Revenue increases .Short term pain for long term gain by revenue and its collected by the Dispatcher on their behalf .Lads be delighted not having to register for VAT and pay their Accountant .DRIVERS GET WHAT THEY DESERVED .Have you heard anybody complain about paying the VAT with their 25% Ransome from Free Now?

It doesn't negate the VAT owed from previous years. Some of the lads out there would have serious liabilities. Not just a few thousand but in the tens of thousands.

Lads got badly stung and won't want to touch Uber.Changing the  rules for future VAT isn't gonna make them happy to work for 49% commission.

Uber's playbook is to eliminate the competition and then ramp up the prices.  Comrades might not have a choice (other than ranking) if Uber is the only app in town...

No matter what changes if any .If Revenue are owed they will Shylock You .They want their Lb of flesh .Taxi drivers will be treated exactly like any other business holder .I wonder will they go after lads no longer in the trade for back tax .If you are a PAYE worker they might take a bite of your weekly wedge ?

Watty I already said that in another post and was castigated for it  .Im aware of the Playbook so get on with it remove the low hanging fruit then let the chips fall where they fall .My logic if as a result of really low fares we cut the fleet .Then Supply and Demand dictates more people will be putting out their hand and paying full metered fares again .Like any other business the strong will survive .At present Some drivers are subsidizing other drivers by being forced to cover lower fares to survive .You force 10% of the fleet into redundancy .Most likely Renters paying over the odds will be first out followed by Antique WAVs to expensive to replace .Now if demand fot taxis remains less cars means the Apps must offer better rates to get men to cover the work .Simple Business Logic not some Left wing Liberal nonsence .We are business men not a Charatable Collective.

I was just responding to something I thought John said but I may have misunderstood his post.

I think he was saying drivers getting a future VAT problems resolved after a review by the NTA might lead to lower accountancy fees and might appease some protesters a bit.

To remember me English Literature "To be, or not to be, that is the question:

Whether ’tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And, by opposing, end them.

So Shakespear asks .Whether it is nobler IN THE MIND to suffer .New English I think them cunts are taking the piss !"The Slings of outrageous fortune" The fucking Fares and Comission .Should we drop the App and put them out of business .

An age old conundrum even known by the Prince Of Denmark .

To Quote the Bard once more The Late Lord Mayor Michael Connaughton who was my english teacher will be proud I listened  Shylock from the Merchant of Venice "The pound of flesh, which I demand of him,
Is dearly bought; 'tis mine, and I will have it.For those that dont read Shakespear .The Apps will say they built the taxi using public by making it simpler to get a taxi and they demand what they see as their right to be paid for that .

Im much ado about nothing Benidict asks Beatrice ."I do love nothing in the world so well as you: is not that strange?" For those unfamiliar with the Bards Words .Both Drivers and apps both love the trade they both need the Trade possibly not each other but one cannot really prosper without the other ,

I think you'll find our new cousins are a lot tougher then we are.  They'll work for much much longer hours then us & work for pennies.  That's what Uber and the other apps are counting on.

I agree on that Watty. Me when I started would run rings around a lot of veterans. I deffo did 13 hour shifts when things were shite because I was hungry and enthusiastic. Now not so much. Barely make more than my neighbour on the dole after expenses.

There is another Option to prevent over work New meters that switch off after safe working hours reached a Taxi Tacko ..Im sure after the presentations made by Taxi Reps at the Comittee hilighting safety issues the Dail Lads will look very seriously on the issues that were raised .How much for a new meter or reset to switch it off with fingerprint of facial ignition for the meter ?Problen overworking Solution new meter .DRIVERS WILL GET WHAT THEY DESERVE who asked for this review ?
