75% each. Surely that's enough without a small talk requirement. Punters only want to get from A to B safely.

There should be a lot more attention paid to a driver's ability to drive within the rules of the road. You wouldn't believe the number of licensed taxis that raced passed me on the Quays up above in Dublin las night while I was travelling at the maximum permissible speed of 30 kilos/hour. We desperately need investment in enforcement to rid the trade of these illegals. SPSV drivers should get double the penalty points awarded to private motorists in respect of breaches of the rules of the road.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I don't think small talk ought to be mandatory, erm. Some clients prefer awkward silence, others want to work/think, etc...

Ermy should have the Samaritans phone number tattooed on the back of his head so!!

The pass mark has been reduced from 80% to 75% and module split introduced!!

https://www.nationaltransport.ie/taxi-and-bus-licensing/taxi/latest-news-for-spsv-operators-2/

Thats a load of bollox, I failed 4 tests with scores over 75%, will these parasites be refunding me the costs of those tests.
Module slit as well? How are the Unions not up in arms over this.

The unions sit on TAC, it's them that approved it. I guess it's hard not to when they've been busy telling anyone that'll listen that we've lost 20,000 men to better paid jobs since 2009. Which one do you subscribe to?

If you are already at the top  of taxi driving and have completed an area test and then completed the Certified drivers test making you the cream de la cream of taxi drivers and you even got the Failte Ireland sticker .Do you still have to complete the Industry Knowledge part of the test again ,again ,or could you just do the Geography part of the test as you have clearly previously passed on a  few occasions  the Industry Knowledge .

They're full of shit, they didn't lose anyone to better paying jobs as such. Most left the game because it was impossible to earn a living, because the economy was stagnant and there were too many drivers and too many renters.
I was one of them, I'm now seriously thinking about putting a couple of wats on the road, maybe drive one and rent the other because the economy is picking up. If I found a better job I wouldn't even be considering getting back into it.

The vast majority were dormant licences not being renewed because Kathleen Doyle increased the renewal fee from €3 to €250.

Which union do you subscribe to?

I'm confident that it's still tough enough to keep the mongs out. They'll simplify it again in a couple of years because 75% is too high for the cabbages. The worst thing about this is most of the fleet were too busy fretting over Uber rather than make any submissions on this issue.

By the way in case ya didn't know already it has been the tougher test that has been improving our income more than any other measure. This was the one to make submission on.

It's being reported that many prospective taxi drivers having passed the test(s) are being kept at bay either by extortionate insurance quotes or the inability to even obtain a quote, dumbing down the test will have no bearing on this

Ps. Will those who achieved a score between 75% and 80% previosly now retrospectively receive pass standard? This seems only fair.

Yeah I'm sure there are a few being kept out by insurance. But you need a clean licence with PSV experience to get a reasonable quote for yer own policy.Renting is the only realistic entry point (unless you've got 20k sitting in the bank for a mini wat).I'm fairly sure it costs new lads with clean licences about 3k to go on a renter's policy although I'm open to correction as usual.

So here's another problem...if a driver is capable enough to get through the new test maybe he/she realised it's actually a shit job and not worth breaking yer bollox to clear a 500 a week after expenses.I know I wouldn't come near this industry if I had to rent. The only solution is get more morons that don't mind working 60 or 70 hours a week to scrape by.How do we get more morons?Make the test easier. What could possibly go wrong?

Anyway I'm out for a few pints amd some grub I hope I don't have to walk far for a taxi home..

A Dublin City Councillor is warning that the city risks returning to a taxi shortage because of rocketing insurance premiums.

Fianna Fáil's Paul McAuliffe says that taxi drivers are being forced to leave the industry.

He says he has already been inundated by complaints from many Dublin residents who have been left waiting for "Well we've seen increasingly over the past three years the cost of car insurance increase, but those in the taxi industry have been particularly impacted," he said.

"The real issue now is that we're being increasingly getting taxi drivers who are coming to us saying that they can't enter the market because insurance companies will not insure them.

"This week alone, I've had two people contacting me saying that they just cannot get a quote."
