Revealed: Price of longest Lynk taxi trip last year from Rathmines to Blarney for a wedding

January 05 2023 03:50 PM

Lynk Taxis has revealed the longest and shortest trips taken by customers last year.

The longest trip was from Rathmines to Blarney with four customers taking a cab to a wedding, splitting the €487 cost for the 260km journey.

Meanwhile, the shortest trip was Dublin Zoo to Áras an Uachtaráin, with the four minute, 2km trip, costing €6.20.

The most popular taxi rank of 2022 was Dublin Airport, according to new Lynk Taxis in its round up of statistics for the year.

It said that over 1.7m passengers got into Lynk taxis during last year.  The most common items left behind by customers were handbags (36pc) and mobile phones (30pc).

It recorded 26 “leggers” being done by passengers in 2022 – people who ran instead of paying their fare.

Meanwhile, it said with the rising cost in fuel prices and digital tariffs on mandatory contactless payments, the price of running a taxi has never been higher.

CEO of Lynk Taxis, Noel Ebbs, said: “Every year our team and customers look forward to the annual roundup and this year it did not disappoint. Some of the great anecdotes in there show how much fun our drivers have with our valued customers.

“I know so many were happy to be doing airport runs again after the pandemic, chatting with families as they head off on their annual holidays.

“The biggest takeaway this year is the increase in sustainable driving, which is so encouraging to see.

“At Lynk, we have done everything we can this year to help drivers and customers feel as little of the pinch as possible, but the reality is there has been an increase in operational costs for taxi drivers and in order to protect their livelihoods, many are turning electric. We expect to see the number of electric vehicles increase again in 2023 and we encourage drivers to go electric where they can.”

According to their statistics, the average Lynk taxi fare in 2022 cost €19.

In September, there was a mandatory metre increase of 12pc to help taxi drivers continue making a living while managing the rising operational costs.

Peak booking times for Lynk taxis in 2022 were from 11pm and 4am on weekends.

"Not just glamorous, taxi driving can make for some of the best stories,” the company said. “One prospective passenger asked for a taxi with a trailer, as their car had broken down and thought this would be a cheaper solution than a tow truck. While the team at Lynk appreciated the ingenuity, unfortunately taxis do not have trailers.”
