I changed me own with discs at 140000 miles but they probably could have made it to 160000 plus too.Got them cheap so done them early for the first and last time. It's just the nature of hybrid and electric cars that they don't engage the caliper until either an emergency stop or below about 7mph.

I think Toyota may have realised that they were not making money on them so for Silver/Hals model they reduced the life of the pads a bit.

I also know another driver with a gen 2 like mine who got charged 350 for pads and disks when they would have lasted another few years.Unscrupulous dealers fleecing people who don't know the vehicles.

I have my NCT on Fri,my front discs have a bit of a lip on them, the pads have loads left on them but i don't really want to put any money into it a it's gone this time next year,i did replace the discs on it already at around 160k,there's over 330k on it at the mo,i used a spurious brand disc(as goid if not better than OEM) and Mintex pads(i think) but felt the pads left a lot of dust on my alloys which didn't happen before.

That €350 was from the main dealer.I think the parts were only about a ton for the front discs and pads for mine.

Silver what sort of mileage is on your yoke that it needs pads?

On the older Prius they can last over 160000 miles.Newer ones might be different.
Currently 170kilos. Mechanic said change now as you don't want them failing near a bank holiday.
The Jap pads are meant to be rougher than the EUROPEAN  ones.

I done a bit of Googling and 120000 miles seems normal for your one.Still a long interval.

I don't notice the dust on mine...probably because it filthy most of the time.Hal has OCD...maybe he'll put you on the right track for less dust.Try and go with a reputable brand.Unless your are bringing it up to Mondello you won't tell the difference. The brakes on the Prius use a booster pump so there's not much direct feel on the brakes.

Although one time my main battery plug was loose and my power brakes failed intermittently causing me to lose braking. Not fun at all.I fixed it and got new underwear.

Right that makes sense.I never had one on a motorbike but only noticed the one on me Prius as it makes lots of weird fish tank noises.I thought for some silly reason it was a hybrid thing.

Anyway I doubt any car would stop well just using the hydraulic brakes alone now that you say it.Bike no problem.

Some of 'em even use the brakes with cruise control to maintain constant speed downhill and/or with driver assist to maintain distance from other traffic or perform an emergency stop... all with no driver input... the way things are going the damn cars will be driving themselves before too long!
