Two popular south Dublin beaches closed to swimmers until further notice

Two of the most popular beaches in South County Dublin have been closed to swimmers due to E.Coli bacteria in the water.

DĂșn Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has put in place temporary bathing prohibition warning notices at Killiney and White Rock beaches.

People are being advised not to swim at either spot until further notice.

More samples are now being taken from the water, with updates to be provided by the council once the results are available.

The most recent EPA study found the vast majority of Irish swimming spots have excellent water quality.

There have been calls for year-round water testing in response to a sharp rise in sea swimming during the colder months of the year.

Currently, regular testing is only carried out during the bathing season from June to September.

I was reading another article suggesting that EU regulations don't require testing for a whole host of potentially harmful substances, the implication being that regardless of published ratings, all of our coastal waters are cesspits. Disappointing really, as an occasional sea swimmer I always check that the latest rating is excellent... now I'm told that means fuck all.

If I was a more regular sea swimmer I think I'd invest in a decent quality wet suit... I guess that might keep the cold out too?

The one in the Aldi wetsuit.

Without the wetsuit, you'd be in the Aldi-gether! 8)
