The tragic teen who was found shot dead at a home in Co Meath has been named locally as 19-year-old Conor O'Brien - and gardai have opened up a murder investigation into his death.

Conor's body was discovered at the rear of a house on the Trim Road in Enfield on Friday morning at around 8:30am with a single gunshot wound.

The 19-year-old was originally from Gorey, Co Wexford, and had been living in an apartment out the back of the home, which is owned by a relative of his.

Gardai say Conor's last known contact was with a family member on Thursday evening at around 8pm.

Investigators also said a number of locals reported hearing a single loud banging noise on the same evening.

The scene where Conor's body was found remains sealed off for further technical examination.

Gardai confirmed this afternoon that no firearm had been recovered at the scene.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed and an incident room has been established at Trim Garda Station to deal with the investigation.

Officers are making the following appeals for information:

Any person that was in the Trim Road, Enfield (R159) at or close to its junction with Main Street Enfield area between 8pm Thursday 26th August and 7am on Friday, 27th August, 2021, whether you believe you witnessed anything or not, to make contact with the investigating Gardaí.
