They want LESS vehicles on the road .The Big Picture is Electric BUS ,Bike ,Scooter ,Luas ,Dart and Taxi .In an ideal world you take a bus or Luas to a station then jump a bike or Scooter in the City with Taxis only being really needed to take drunks home at night when peddeling a Bike or steering a Scooter with porter in board will be illegal ..Look at Heuston bike rank outside and continuous bike lane down the Quays into the City .The Hippy Highway or Eamo expressway .And if you have suitcases there are ranks of taxis outside waiting hours to serve you and if you need to go to the Airport there is a New Airport bus that stops outside in its own bus pick up zone provided by the Station .

  it would be different if there really was no taxis available ever but there are plenty even in the town I work, too many if anything. And there are lots of ways to fix a shortage without ride sharing apps.

I'm amazed at the ignorance around these apps amongst experienced taxi drivers.Uber and Lyft can't get drivers either in the US or UK.Where were they gonna find them in Ireland?

The only difference between Uber Uk and here is they get charged 25% commission but they get 12% back in holiday pay.They do get surge pricing and we don't.You could argue that they have it better than us as they're running rings around the proper black cabs.

Pain in my ass listening to people saying they cant get a taxi home at night,or the taxi driver wouldnt take them.

Numerous media  outlets are calling for more taxis, even Senator Neal Richmond FG put out a video on social saying he is going to talk with the NTA, as people are having difficulty getting a taxi at night.
He said theres too much red tape, fees should be reduced and uber and lyft should be introduced.
At no time did he or anyone mention the fact that we do not have a 24hr bur luas or train service,its left up to taxis to being people home.

We are the easy target.

We deregulated the market over 20 yrs ago now and public transportation hasnt improved one bit, but lets attack the taxi business and blame them.

I call enough.

Its time the taxi business starting challenging the media and politicians with facts.

NTA's latest figures show that the number of taxis in Ireland at 3.7 per 1,000 population, which far exceeds most European countries where the average is 1.3 per 1,000 population.
It pointed out that the ration in Dublin was 7.4 taxis per 1,000 population

What in the name of Jaysus are all these extra taxis supposed to do outside the 4 or 5 hours it gets out of shape every weekend?,as pointed out it's always been like this since old man time was born but the China flu seems to have caused mass memory failure.

Would it really be worth someones time driving for uber here for the 2 hours it is busy on a saturday night? what would they make, they would be competing with all the taxis and other Uber drivers. The 2 hours it would be busy would turn into 1 hour. I don't think it will happen at all.
