NTA more late night busses ?
« on: August 04, 2022, 06:53:25 pm »
It pointed out that late night bus services have been introduced on a number of routes such as the 15, 39a and 41 in recent years.

A new 24-hour operation is in place between Sandymount and Adamstown via the city centre and South Lucan, and also between Ringsend depot and Maynooth/Celbridge via the city centre and Lucan Village.

An orbital route along the N4 between Blanchardstown and the Point Village via DCU and Collins Avenue has also been rolled out.

The NTA said further 24-hour services are expected to commence in late summer on routes G1/G2 to Liffey Valley/Red Cow via Ballyfermot, adding that future phases will include more expansion of overnight services.

The NTA argued that the delivery of 24-hour bus services on a regular schedule across the network “is more feasible”.

“The NTA is committed to delivering more of these services as the BusConnects Dublin network is rolled out,” they added.

However, Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond told The Journal that late-night Luas services are “badly needed” as are more 24-hour Dublin Bus services, “given the persisting issues with access to taxis in Dublin city centre”.

“This is becoming a public safety issue with many people being forced to walk home, often alone, late at night as public transport is not operating and taxis are hard to come by,” he said.

Possible storm in a teacup?  To paraphrase your good self, the coming recession and fuel shortage will have us all huddling at home wrapped in sleeping bags, burning books and bits of twigs to keep warm while town (and buses) will shut down at 6pm :o  :o  :o

GO Bus are pushing for the Public Service Levy to be paid for 24 hour bus services .Some TDs are doing their bidding and Lack of taxis really means lack of Public service transport .If there were more Late night busses to Working Class areas it would free up the Taxis for those who can afford to use them .

These TDs are doing the PR for late night busses .They are trying to get Eamo to extend the Public service levy to late night busses but he wont bite He refuses to pay for Dirty Diesel Busses late at night .Problem with Electric Busses is they need to be off the Road for Recharging .If they run them at night they will be off the road daytime .

JUSTICE MINISTER HELEN McEntee has said part of her plan to overhaul the country’s licensing laws also includes ensuring that “it’s safe that people can get to and from our towns and cities and villages” after a night out.

The minister told The Journal that she will be bringing forward a bill to Cabinet in the autumn that will give the green light for nightclubs and pubs to open late into the night.

The legislation, which she says she plans to enact “as quickly as possible”, is part of the overall night time economy task force, which is being led by Tourism Minister Catherine Martin.

“It’s not just about making sure that we have a vibrant and open night time economy but that it’s safe that people can get to and from our towns and cities and villages,” said McEntee.

The National Transport Authority and the Department of Transport are key members of that task force, said McEntee, adding that there is ongoing work relating to “public transport late at night” once the new law comes into place.

She said expanded public transport services across the board will be needed once the new law is enacted.

There are “strands of work and committees” looking at “how we expand our services, to not just the Luas, but Dublin Bus, our buses outside of the main city and also looking at taxis, which I know is a problem at the moment and has been perhaps more of a problem since post Covid”.

Here is the Plan .If you can get Night busses to Working Class areas the Working class will know other working class on the Night bus and will be comfortable using them and the Working, Working Class can get home from work cheaply .Freeing up the Taxis for those from Clonskea and Templeogue who need and can afford to use them .Its a Class conscious solution to Public Transport .Anybody ever notice Nobody in Castleknock ever complained that they had no LUAS .

If folk want taxis why can't NTA just provide taxis? Taxi drivers representatives Jim Waldron and Joe Heron (RIP) told NTA and anybody else that would listen that thousands of drivers left the trade to pursue alternative vocational opportunities way back when Mrs. Doyle increased the licence renewal fee from €3 to €250 yet we still have a temporary moratorium on the issue of saloon plates. An experienced driver recently told the media that the average driver age is c.66 yet 98% of subsidies are directed at current drivers despite Jim Waldron calling for lower entry costs years before COVID '19 anall.
