With surge pricing the driver gets the excess (less commission). With Free Now's technology fee version the firm trousers the lot.... but then Uber give drivers the cancellation fees (commission free) too whereas Free Now trousers c.82.64% of them.
Use Uber.

I use Uber in the UK and Spain. I generally use Lynk or Bolt in Dublin because they seem to have a lot more drivers than Uber. Notably, the fares charged by Uber, Lynk and Bolt in Dublin are significantly lower than fares charged by Free Now.

Not particularly but that's no reason to pay higher fares. In my experience, all of the firms use the same cars and drivers yet Bolt, Uber and Lynk charge lower fares and pay more to their drivers.

A woman has shared the two simple safety measures she takes whenever she’s travelling in an Uber.

Brenna, from the US, said she would always leave behind her hair and fingerprints in every car she rides as “evidence” she was there, in case she found herself in a dangerous situation.

A loony driver is probably more likely to attack her for 'dirtying' his taxi?

I guess she means well but, like all app firms, Uber is already tracking the movements of the driver and passenger so much of the evidence is already available.

In Ireland you'll find Uber drivers working for Lynk, Free Now, Bolt and other firms as well so I guess the same precautions would be advisable in most taxis on our roads although anecdotal evidence suggests migrant drivers have an extremely high propensity to rape and/or murder their clients. I know you will argue that more white Irish by accident of birth drivers have been convicted of such offences but you must bear in mind that a conviction requires the crime to be reported. Sex offences are the least reported crimes in the State and murder victims rarely, if ever, stand up to be counted.
