Snooker back in the day was brilliant, we all loved it and most of us could recognise the top 16 in an instant and even knew most of them by first name, Steve, Denis, Alex, Cliff, Silvino, Willie, Kirk, Jimmy, Big Bill, Etc.
Then along came Barry Hearn with his few bob and his Matchroom syndicate and almost overnight spoiled the whole thing, bar Ronnie I wouldn't recognise a single player in the top 16 today. It was money and a marketeer that spoiled snooker.
