The Dockers Dream.
« on: February 22, 2018, 08:59:57 am »
About 12 or so years back I was head compiler on the day in my bookie headquarters in Cork, at about 11am I got a call on the internal phone system from one of our city branches, it was Evan, a nice young lad, very straight-laced and honest lad, he said to me; "There's a fella here wants Ten Grand @ 2/5 on the Fav in the 11.15 at Bloemfontein (South Africa)". I ask Evan; "Does he look like he has Ten Grand ?". Evan replies; "No". I say to him; "Fine, let him have it, I'll bet he hasn't the price of a cup of tea in his pocket !".

Ten Grand is always the magic figure and we used to get it a few times every year that some idiot would be sitting at home thinking to himself 'I'll really show those bookies up today, I'll ask fer a Ten Grand bet and when they refuse me I'll tell the whole of Cork about it !', most usually I will always say "Fine" to them and watch as they turn tail and leg it out the door looking like a fool.

A minute later Evan rings me back; "Yea, he had that Ken, all paid up in cash", I was surprised, I turned on my T.V. monitor and watched the horse lose the race. Five minutes later Evan rings again; "Yer man want's 5 Grand on trap 1 @ 6/4 in the 11.28 at Romford". "Fine" I say "Give it to him, actually give him anything he wants, take the bets first and ring em in to me After you take them". I knew I had a 'Whale' on the line and a good manager in Evan running the show on the ground and I sure wasn't gonna let my Whale slip-off my line. The dog won and the customer continued trading in 5 and 10 Thousand Euro bets fer the rest of the morning. When he was all done at about 1.30pm he was down about Thirty grand and he left just as quietly as he had entered.

I rang Evan later in the afternoon fer a chat because I knew that kind of trading can be harrowing on a young lad, I didn't say much to him, but allowed him the opportunity to express his thoughts and concerns to me. I arranged fer the money to be off-counter and out of that shop within 15 minutes of the Whales departure. During our chat Evan told me; "A few of the regular punters had been chatting to yer man and he was an ex-Docker and he got his redundancy last week, his Dream all his life had been to go in to the bookies and bet in Tens of Thousands !".

I think I might of told you this one before .I worked for a well known Dublin bookie and we had a regular customer would start off betting a grand or two on short ones build up his wedge then go for gold .He had a £50,000 bet that won and he lost .He backed Dimuendo to win the Irish Oaks @2/5 and she dead heated with Melodist or possibly Musicali cant remember the exact names  .So half his stake 25K plus his 10K winnings saw him getting 35,000 returned for his winning 50K bet . The bookie always wins .The best I ever withnessed was a punter who had a ton on no goal scorer in the Liverpool Game @ Sheffield on the day of the tragedy .As the game had started the rule was all bets stood and if the game was abandoned the score at that time was what was settled .Anyhow the lad comes in to collect and the bookie starts talking to him and says it was a tragedy and we are voiding the match and returning all bets .Yer man says that was not the rule so after a longer conversation My boss convinced yer man he didnt want to profit from such a unfortunate event and he would have no luck if he did .The punter accepted his Ton back .

Real bookies know the punter always loses and were willing to play the long game .Big corp orates like Paddy and Laddies keep a running total for their shareholders it must always show ahead they like straight line profits not peaks and throfts .If you go into the bank now with over 3K in readies you have to tell them where you got it .

They have you listed/marked on their system as an 'Early Morning price Shark', that will be on your account fer life.
Open up new accounts using Mrs Catchers card and punt away on the Lotto fer a few weeks to build up your disguise.
Your old Rat card accounts are dead in the water, don't close them but just ignore them, closing them would arouse
suspicion that new accounts similar to your old account may open shortly.

On reflection, I probably should not have accepted the 'Whales' first bet, but as I was so 'Cock-sure'
it was a Spoof bet then I couldn't back down from it after he produced the readies.
As soon as he asked fer the Second ridiculous Dog bet, I knew exactly what I had on my line.

It'd only be a matter of time before they closed/restricted the Mrs Catcher accounts. Maybe I need to trade in the misses every few months?

It would seem from what you have said that Mrs Catcher is indeed a half decent catch,
while you on the other hand are probably Not !
So maybe best to stick it out with Mrs Catcher fer a while longer !
 lol

As regards the cards, just play Stoopid, do Stoopid bets, Lotto, 49's, Etc fer small amounts
and build up your Stoopid reputation/disguise.
