That should suit you Ermy, what with hardly working and being a day driver anall.
-
Have any of you seen the demands??

Compulsory Credit card acceptance issue on fare review
No charging points for ev's on ranks
Lack of rank spaces where needed and general attitude towards drivers trying to do their jobs, eg: guards closing off around 3 arena after concerts
Continued issuing of new vehicle licences despite obvious oversupply
No toilet facilities on ranks for drivers
Little or no police back up at night for security issues
No buy back for older drivers wishing to retire
No way of reporting of illegal activities on driver check app
No contact number for nta enforcement team
These are just some of the live issues that drivers should be represented on
-
Will the NTA be able to see the protest?
Pic is from NTA website. A = Harcourt St, B= NTA HQ

We're 4th on the list after bus, luas & train (15mins, Pearse Station). Cycling & walking are 5 & 6.

Jesus wept. They forgot to add there's nobody to tuck them into bed at nighty-nighty. Did nobody tell them they're self-employed businessmen/women!

I tried to explain it to the organizer, along with others, that most of them were preposterous and they should concentrate on 2 or 3 definitive things that could possibly be changed.
-
Could ya imagine toilets on the ranks, they’d be worse than the mesh toilets and you’d have every Tom dick and Harry us in them
-
Like Watty says the NTA is not on Harcourt street.
Do they want Ev chargers or no Ev chargers on ranks? The government said in the budget we we're getting them.
Are they looking for a buyback of plates or no buyback?
-

Most of the Kesh drivers miss the toilet/urinals, I think it's their dirty protest.
-
I didnt even know there was a protest, but apart from that,am i to understand that the drivers are demanding that all drivers offer CC facilities ?
-

+1
KISS
1. Increase grants/encourage us to move to electric/hybrid taxis. They were very generous getting the WAT fleet to 10%. Repeat that generosity to get electric/hybrids to 10 or 50%?. It'll make them look good when they fly (cough cough) to foreign conferences...
2. It's a bit apples & oranges but... Since we can't charge extra for people paying by credit card, limit what the apps can charge us in commission. Uber USA charges their (not-employee) drivers upto to 40% commission. No bueno
-

Not the drivers but the Govt/NTA - the drivers are just moaning about something new (as usual).
It's gonna be compulsory soon. You WILL have a CC machine by 2021!
-
The NTA are giving us 10k off the full leccy cars. Regular hybrids should be incentivised more than plug-ins hybrids which are a bit of a gimmick IMO.
-
Stop being sensible. This is a PROTEST!
-
Is this being organised by any of the unions that were protesting against our last increase because they thought it was a decrease?I think it was OXO...dunno if he's still around.
-
Good point being made in the Members section... http://intaxi.org/forum/index.php?topic=11355.135 (http://intaxi.org/forum/index.php?topic=11355.135)
In the future, what if a 'street hail' pays us by CC (not FreeNow) and then does a chargeback (i.e., customer says taxi journey never happened)?
We've no comeback because we can't really prove 'Joe Bloggs' took our taxi from A to B?
-
I went to Sweden to look for some Oxo Cubes.
I hear they have a really good shop there called "Stockhome"

That’s why John M has said it will be compulsory for us to provide credit card facilities but will be on us whether we actually accept them or now
-
As you said Vicci you must have CC facilities just like you must have a First Aid Kit and an Extinguisher but you are not obliged to use them .So I wont be supporting that If they put chargers on Ranks it will only encourage drivers to block up ranks as they recharge so I wont be supporting that .We have enough taxies so stop ALL grants .A taxi licence has no value so how much will you pay to buyback .There is no other precident where the Government have bought back any licence The value of your licence for buyback purpose would only be the unused part of the annual renewal not used at the time you sold it back .GOBSHITES once again scoring own goals .

Am or Pm john?

Am or Pm john?
AM Anto I just posted what I was sent .
-
The biggest issue for drivers at the moment (or at least as of last week) is the 25% Free Now freight increase. Hence they should be demanding that NTA do one of two things:
i) increase PUC to €5.00 with immediate effect; or
ii) provide eHail infrastructure funded through licence fees and incorporate the desired card payment system in that with payments guaranteed to drivers save agreed refunds/corrections.
-
As fer toilets on ranks, on probably the Second busiest 'Chicken run' rank in Cork there is a public toilet right beside it, I used to use it before then One night I saw the foil/plastic wrapping of a syringe on the sink counter and have never used it since.
How could you charge an electric taxi on a rank, are all other drivers supposed to wait behind you ?
And I would Love to know their proposals fer more Garda back-up fer night time security issues !
-
For me its the amount of taxis out there, far to many I would support any campaign that seeks to get rid of, or at least stop the numbers entering.I suppose when your an independent thats the FIRST thing you want to do.no doubt they try and make ALL drivers align tp dispatchers in the fiture.I honestly believethat any group of drivers who feel as strongly opposed to this as I do,should start organising now
-

Organize what ?
Taxi drivers can't even organize a Rank without Snatchers trying to scoop from the top.
There is No unity amongst Taxi drivers and most likely there never will be.
Ya need to get used to this Fact DM.
-
If people continue to repeat things like oh there is nothing you can do about this,or theres nothing you can do about that,or there are snachers, here or there,or there is an illegal rank robbing our work,orTHERE IS NO UNITY,etc etc it will ALWAYS be the case that there will be nothing we can do about it.I think that is what the roll of our reps should be .to organise drivers ,and to unite them in a common goal for the good of the membership.their job becomes increasingly harder when you have people continuously saying things like THERE IS NO UNITY.
-
Like rats, I think the puc should be raised, not to €5 but to €4. That would compensate us nicely for app jobs.
-
I've never been in a union, but maybe the time is coming that is what is needed for all Taxi Drivers.
NTA to make it compulsory for drivers to join a union (it's a start anyway).
When we are all shooting from the same side then maybe (just maybe) we might start addressing all this sh1t, otherwise we are peeing against the wind
-
.EVERY TAXI DRIVER IS EVERY OTHER TAXI DRIVERS COMPETITION GET THAT INTO YOUR THICK SKULLS .I wonder if this has more to do with certain drivers not wanting Credit Card facilities that would record the fares they charge .Drivers who got a grant for an EV got a grant to have a quick charger at home so why would they need an on rank booster did they not do due dilligance before they bought their battery operated cars .Should we demand puncture repair facilities and car washes on ranks as well .I suppose if drivers are concerned about security the NTA can go back to the taxi act 2012 and introduce in car screens and on board cameras as provided for in law and tech in the roofsigns as allowed for in the act that should make drivers feel safer and will only cost THEM a few thousand euro .
-
With respect, DM how do you expect reps to do their job when you refuse to support them? Time and time again you complain that there are too many taxis while NPHTA and ITDF complain that 20,000 drivers have abandoned the trade and that entry costs are too high. Free Now controls TAC and hence the taxi trade... money might not sing and dance but it sure as hell talks.

Dont tell me thats a coded message .You want us all forever in Blue Jeans and possibly matching shirts .
-
It's interesting that not one single poster or taxi driver I've met has asked for the taxi test pass mark to be returned to 80%.Currently I think it's at 75%.That was the only thing keeping drivers from entering the industry. Now they're coming in faster than they used to.Nothing to do with more taxi plates.
Nobody has clarified do the protesters want EV chargers or not?Hard to tell from the post above.
-
Had a lad in the car over the weekend who told me he passed the Geography section but failed the Industry section by a couple of points... all in extremely broken ENGLISH.
-
That's supposed to be the easy part.Maybe he underestimated it and didn't study for it.
-
Back on topic I posted about the protest here but has anybody heard from anyone else about it .or is it a private event ?
-
Possibly, MfH. He studied with Free Now... maybe some of it got lost in translation.
I think it's by invitation only, erm. No doubt they're not expecting a big turnout...
-

Are the Drogheda Men still on the way down or have the reached the Gresh they were expected 9 years ago .
-
Is it 9 years... where does the time go?
-
Strange thing about it is,this acrually COULD be a very vibrant, professional, well paying indistry,if drivers on here would only treat it as such.all I ever hear on here is drivers making a laugh of the industry, pointing out how bad it is,and that it is something we should not take seriously.well I think thats bollox.this industry has a great chance of survival if people stop saying things like ah its only a part time gig etc.this industry can be a great fully professional, full time, full time, fully respected part of the transport industry, but it has to start with the people who are part of it (the drivers) demanding that professionalism
-
There you go again... having a go at TTNH now... assuming you don't consider licensing convicted drug dealers as an essential part of that aspirational "profession".
-
Dalymount have you ever heard of anybody leaving school to become a taxi driver .Its not an Industry its a safety net for unemployables most drivers are refugees from Courier or site work or badly paid factory work .Taxi driving all over the world is minimum wage low skilled work we are down there with other street workers who ply their trade on the streets .Irish taxi drivers from the pre dereg days lived in a guilded cage todays drivers are just low paid casual labour when there is work we work when its quiet we moan .
-
The only way to fix the trade is a compulsory buy back of all plates issued since entry liberalisation and a return to Bertie's forum.... even at that it'd still be a trade not a profession.
-
What do we want?
[all] Implementation of as many of the proposals outlined within our circulated literature as reasonably possible.
When do we want it?
[all] As soon a practicable having due regard for such constraints as regulatory and/or consultancy processes may reasonably impose.
-
Well im afraid we will have to agree toto differ lads,I just happen to believe ANY industry can be turned around to be fully professional, but I also believe it has to start with the stakeholders in it ,the drivers
-
I think we should start by banning the pensioners.Thats about 70% of the kesh gone overnight...might be a few others too..
-
I would not disagree.although im not yet a state pensioner,I have a fairly small pension from eircom.but I have always believed this should be an industry consisting of fully professional, fully committed, full time self employed drivers.if that includes ruling the likes of me out, then so be it.there are to many young men out there trying their damdest to provide a living for their families, and then tou have the NTA who want to flood an already over populated with more taxis
-
Only messing Daly but that what this industry is like.Everyone has a type of driver they don't like.
I'm sure there are full time slaves who don't like that I can live on 30 hours a week. They think anyone doing less than 50 hours is lazy when in fact I'm doing them a massive favour.
-
I always feel so sorry for young lads trying to carve a living out of this industry when their competition consist of retired gaurds, double jobbing school teachers etc and well healed pensioners.then you have the likes of matteress mick, milking it for all its worth renting to moonlighters .what chance has a ypung driver with a morgahe and family got .its not fair imo
-
Some lads make poor choices. If you wanna feed six kids and pay a mortgage then the taxi industry isn't for you.You should have been a doctor or an engineer.Low skill job.
-
Thank fuk i only had two kids when i started...but if you work it right you won't have child minding fees or pay very little.
-
Anymore than two kids now is a sign of wealth amongst my mates.Cant be easy at all.
-

A sign of madness.

Thanks Dm, I was once one of them young lads, but I am over that now, so fook them, let them go and do something else. They are working all hours and taking the food out of our mouths !
-
Fair play to DM. He is prepared to surrender his plate for the greater good. If he could take the rest of the post-dereg scum with him we'd be sorted.

You'd be able to work even less hours for more money then!!
-
If I had a wish it would be to be take all dispatchers with me
-
Yes, Hal... and the younger men could work more hours for more money... and we'd get our culture back... Irish men and women could once again queue for hours on end to be driven by predominately white taximen who are Irish by accident of birth.

dont know and dont know I dont support no credit cards or chargers on ranks so wont be supporting this .

Are ya sayin you WANT CC and chargers on ranks ?
-
Are ya sayin you WANT CC and chargers on ranks ?
I want CC the customers want them .Why would you want chargers on ranks there are no petrol pumps .Those who got grants for EVs got money for home chargers .
-
Totally agree about chargers on ranks,it would cause on the likes of aston Quay etc .dont agree about the mandatory use of CC facilities.this was something that was introduced by dispatchers, and supported by government .it interferes with the democratic right of a driver to take cash, not tp mention does away with tips, and also puts your name up in lights in places where you would rather not have your name up in lights

I have explained Mandatory card readers does NOT mean you need to accept cards .Just like Fire extinguishers and first aid kits .
-
But the NTA says ALL taxis will be offering CC facilities soon
-
But the NTA says ALL taxis will be offering CC facilities soon
OFFERING not Compelled to accept your card just like you are not compelled to take a passenger .Basically it will be up to individual drivers to decide if they want to OFFER the service based on their personal reading of the customer .
-
In general you are compelled to take a passenger... with certain exceptions e.g. 30 kilo limit, travellers, etc..
-
Im not sure your right there John,my understanding is that the NTA are insisting on the availability of CC facilities being available to all members of the public.
-
The (amateur) fraudsters will make shit of us.
-
In general you are compelled to take a passenger... with certain exceptions e.g. 30 kilo limit, travellers, etc..
Are travellers listed in the NTA rules as an exception ?
-
When the banks sell off all their cash machines to a private company its going to cost around €3.50 just to take cash from these machines. You would want to be off your head to take cash from a machine when that happens. I'd say around 70% of our work will be card in the next few years. Drivers that don't want to take cards might want to look for a different job soon.
-
How's life back with C2K Billy boy?
-
Thats what im saying billy, its going to be MANDATORY very soon.this is something that was introduced by dispatchers ,and now independents have no choice but to fall in line because of those scumbags.I hope whoever organized this mornings protest, put their opposition to the fore
-
Im not sure your right there John,my understanding is that the NTA are insisting on the availability of CC facilities being available to all members of the public.
Available what does that mean Im available to work 24/7 but I dont .
-
How's life back with C2K Billy boy?
Happy enough so far.... Back to paying around 10% freight.... Get January out of the way and hopefully drop a little lower.
-
Are travellers listed in the NTA rules as an exception ?
Not in so many words... but you can refuse anyone likely to damage you or your vehicle/property.
-

23. (1) The driver of a small public service vehicle in respect of which a fare has been agreed in advance of the commencement of the hire, who charges or seeks to charge a fare that is greater than the agreed fare commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a class C fine.
(2) The driver of a taxi who is plying or engaged for hire or standing for hire at an appointed stand, whether or not the taxi is standing for hire at the head of the stand, shall not refuse to carry a person as a passenger in the taxi, save where—
(a) to do so would exceed the number of persons permitted to be carried in the taxi under the licence in respect of that vehicle,
(b) the person’s proposed journey is more than 30 kilometres in distance (or such other distance as stands specified in regulations made by the Authority) from the commencement of the journey,
(c) there are adverse weather or road conditions or traffic controls affecting the journey or route such as to render the journey unsafe or impractical,
(d) luggage or other articles in the person’s possession to be carried in the vehicle are in excess of the luggage carrying capacity of, or could cause damage to, the taxi, or
(e) the passenger or intending passenger—
(i) appears or acts in an aggressive, intoxicated, drunk or disorderly manner, or the driver has reason to believe, will act as such, or
(ii) is dishevelled to such a degree that in the driver’s opinion carriage of such person would affect the sanitation or cleanliness of the taxi.
-
or the driver has reason to believe, will act as such, There you go you make the decision who you carry ,The same will apply to who you extend credit to .It will not be mandatory to accept cards just to provide the facility .
-
Do you take travellers cheques?
-
John your a divil for splittin hairs
-
John your a divil for splittin hairs
Not splitting hairs just pointing out what something actually means not what it says .
-
So are you saying most things that are said are not really meant ?
-
I think he's saying they don't necessarily mean what they say and don't necessarily say what they mean but I'm not sure if he's saying what he means or if he means what he's saying.
-
Do you think the current Sum up and Cab app terminals will be acceptable by the NTA ?
-
I think he's saying they don't necessarily mean what they say and don't necessarily say what they mean but I'm not sure if he's saying what he means or if he means what he's saying.
@ Stephen, does your Nokia mate have any plans made fer CC's ?
-
Not sure, Ken. Ideally the facility ought to be incorporated with current metering systems. I know a card reader is available for my 20 year old Hale Microtax 5 so I suspect most meters would have the facility.
I don't think he has any plans as yet, Ken. I guess he'll hold out for as long as possible but none of us know what NTA will require us to provide yet.
-
So are you saying most things that are said are not really meant ?
No they are meant to say what you need them to say when you need then to say what you want them to say .Big Dommo was down the Lower Deck chatting to some oulone he told her he was a widower and hadent had a portion since his hen departed ,then he told yer one he thought she was very attractive and even bought her a drink out of his Dole money .Got her back to Tommy Two Fingers Gaff .Next time he saw her he told her she was mixing him up with Wilber his older widowed brother .

Seeing as I am a culchie who doesnt use the app, how is the protest going over the increase fees paid to free now? have many drivers deleted the app? are they working the old fashioned way now or are they using a different app?
-
Some using Uber and/or Taxy as well as Free Now. I don't think they are struggling to cover the work though. A lot of drivers have probably reduced their reliance on app work, or at least tried to. The problem is the clients will continue to use it as long as it works for them. The Mount Street protests seem to have fizzled out so one would assume drivers will gradually return their full support to Free Now.
-
More importantly, are any of you caught out with licence renewal now that the NTA said they cannot renew a licence without a valid NCT ?
-
Hal's going for the NCT tomorrow, he said he'll keep us informed... I think he's the first of our contributors.
-
NTA released a statement tonight in relation to taxi drivers.they basically said while they understand the position taxi drivers are in,they cannot renew a licence without a valid NCT.

I can see legal challenges being taken in that instance....i'll certainly be speaking to my solicitor regarding it.
I did ring the NTA today regarding it as the general manager of NCTS said they wouldn't be issuing full certs and it could be three weeks until it's resolved.

I think drivers would be mad to go back to freenow and pay them 15%, all they have to do is leave and join another app, word gets out, then all the freenow customers install the other app, simple really.

In the same way if drivers stopped using dispatchers altoghter people would go back to just sticking their hand out ,and there would be NO COMMISION AT ALL
-
Off Dublin Taxi Drivers Facebook page./////
The National Transport Authority has said it cannot lawfully issue new taxi licences to drivers of vehicles that do not have a valid NCT.
⚠️⚠️⚠️
It means that taxi drivers whose licences are due to expire shortly and need to get their car tested as part of the renewal process, may not be able to renew their licence until problems with lifts in NCT centres are resolved.
According to the NTA around 100 vehicles nationwide may be impacted by the issue over the next two weeks.
"NTA is not lawfully in a position to grant a vehicle licence without proof of a valid NCT Certificate dated within 90 days of inspection," a spokesperson for the authority said tonight.
"RSA and NCTS have advised NTA that all vehicle owners should continue to book and attend at their NCT as normal. The test will be completed with the temporary omission of the underbody inspection, which will be conducted at a later time when the lifts are returned to use."
The NTA added that the Road Safety Authority and National Car Testing Service have committed to prioritising the provision of NCT certificates for taxis.
-
In the same way if drivers stopped using dispatchers altoghter people would go back to just sticking their hand out ,and there would be NO COMMISION AT ALL
Or PUC !
-
Expect more failures so that they can charge for the 2nd inspection when the lifts are fixed.
-
Cheers Marky,
Deffo be in touch with my solicitor,if i have to rent a taxi through no fault of my own then someone has to pay...i'm sure NCTS will be taking action against the lift supplier as they'll have to do the third part of the test FOC....which i'm sure they'll make up in failures and therefor retest fees.
-
They never needed lifts in Kevin Street. Give it back to the Gardai, I say.
