May the drivers that are still working take heed and their families. RIP indeed.
-
Them lads would have security screens too.Something doesn't sound right.

My mate is a doctor he thinks it in air when infected people speak.Hence South korea they all wear MASKS and infection level is low.
-
They probably go to supermarkets and touch things like the rest of the population, MfH.
-
It's possible one driver spread it in a bus/depot.
I dunno how wise it is putting all your faith in the HSE guidelines. This thing is airborne to a certain extent.I don't believe they're giving out the latest up to date information.
Why are the South Koreans all wearing masks but our government is telling us it's not needed.Lot of spoofing/ignorance is gonna cost lives after all this settles down.
-
From the outset Govt/HSE set out it's stall i.e. to slow the spread. Maybe there would be no spread if everyone wore masks and supermarkets facilitated recommended hand hygiene? Supply and demand is probably an issue, too... Front line workers are most at risk so it makes sene that HSE wants to protect supplies of masks for it's own front line workers and for it's execs to wear around the water cooler.
-
As this thing goes on longer more relatively healthy people are getting very ill with this.Everything I've seen lately has been geared towards stopping the spread.
It's clear the poor bastards in the HSE are in over their heads. The lack of ventilators and isolation units will kill a lot of people who could have made it another twenty years.
As far as taxi and bus drivers are concerned we're just being used to facilitate the transport of healthcare workers. From what I can see we have been judged essential but expendable.
In thirty years it will be interesting to see the confidential government documents...if we make it thirty years.
-
Firstly, it was 5 London Bus workers not 5 drivers "It is understood three were drivers and two were controllers."
and the Headline Says
"Coronavirus: Five London bus workers die, union confirms"
and then the sub leadline says.
"Five London bus workers have died after contracting coronavirus."
then it goes on to say very little about them. but rather provides a platform for Sadiq Khan to make his pronouncements.
It does not say that they died of Corona Virus, it is implied and not stated..
It would probably be just as honest and accurate to say that that 5 busworkers died after drinking LT Canteen coffee..
I wonder how many londoners Die every day after consuming drinking water supplied by Thames Water ? I imagine that would be a scary one if you put it in a certain way (if you wanted to sell bottled water)
-
If they wanted to stop it we would have had a Wuhan style lockdown from the outset, MfH. Instead we had two weeks of idiots (myself included) wandering round DIY/Household/Furniture stores followed by two weeks of idiots standing in line to get into infested supermarkets and going home to order pints of beer for delivery.
Everyone is expendable... heath care workers, supermarket workers, garage worker, emergency service workers, bus/train drivers, etc, etc, etc... the older / less healthy you are the more expendable you are, I guess... unless you're over 70 in which case you ought to be cocooned.
I doubt I'll see the papers but you might... the targets for spread, ICU cases and death would be interesting, particularly in the context of delayed test results.
-
Do yis think they wanna sell hand sanitizer or something?Crash the economies all over the world to push an agenda?Millions on the scratcher to sell newspapers?Nobody wins from this.Even the billionaires can't leave their gaff.
The numbers are actually much bigger.Until they test everyone in the country on the same day all they have is a sample.
-
You could also question how well controlled the sample is given the delays in test results.
I wonder if they have considered how well taxi drivers have fared given their contact with many high risk front line workers. Over three weeks on from Cheltenham and I'm only aware of one death that may or may not be relevant to driving a taxi, which is quite incredible given that very little advice was given to drivers. In fact, if "at risk" groups were advised against working the one that may or may not be relevant to trading wouldn't have occurred or wouldn't have been relevant to trading. As Free Now is the only organisation that has published advice to drivers maybe it's execs should be recruited to the HSE board?

You dont have the figures rat ...of how many drivers got it ...or are dying at this moment....or who ended up in icu ...or who are in ther now ..or who got permanent heart , lung , or kidney damage.....its impossible to know .....unless they survey afterward....
I've wondered about drivers bein exposed to every other virus every year ......I got the swine flu an aussie flu an every cold , bronchial infection every year since I started driving a taxi ....one wud wonder are taxi drivers maybe particularly hardy to flu considering they exposed to everything....after 20 yers perhaps yu cud have a robust immune systmn ....but again who's going survey the expendables as merc rightly calls them or freenow treats them .....
-
Indeed. I'm sure Govt have the figures though. Obviously, I'm only going on what has been publicised. Vinny Kearns and others have been using the media to warn drivers against providing an essential service and, in doing so, had no problem sensationalising the death of a gentleman that hadn't driven a taxi for several months... hence I suspect we wouldn't be too long in hearing about any that may be relevant to trading decisions.

Yes ...they shud of called it the covid 19 speculation virus ....
At the end of the day each of us had to decide what we wer going to do as wer wer not told or ordered off the streets .....
I'm a month off now and I have no regrets .......I'll stay off for a year or 2 if i have to ....i cudny give a toss about the Bill's....and i ain't paying nobody.......they can go to fuk ......you've got a look after number one .....
Its goin to get very rough next few years now that the great depression will most likely descend upon us ....i consider meself unemployed now ......i just hope this doesn't lead to world conflict ...but for the moment it's looking good ...lots positives have emerged from it ...

It'd be great if they put the normal dole up to 3 and a half... that'd do me.

I cud live on 300 a week without the money pit taxi .......
-
Discounting scumbag.
-
Should of went to local wefare officer.A mate didnt it last tuesday ,rang them and got chegue in the post on thursday for the €350 .
-
The woman on the phone suggested that but I lost interest.

No.. But Vaccines is a multi billion dollar industry Watch out for mandatory vaccination programs which the governments of the world will gladly stump up for .........all on money borrowed from the international banks (which is also another multibillion dollar industry) + interest..... eventually all paid for by the plebs (us) . and then of course they are selling a fair few Covid 19 testing kits too.... as for crashing economies .... yes there are billions to be made in that too ... not to mention that this event is a big step towards a Cashless economy which will be great when the Transaction charge (tax) is introduced (A few bob to be made there too)
So if you think nobody wins youre very very wrong.. only a small amount of people win but they win super big . and if you think that this "lockdown" is affecting billionaires the same as ordinary folk then you really are very deluded.
as for the realityor not of this virus and its deadlyness .... I can't comment I have no direct experience of it nor do I know anyone who does. Do You ?
I do have experience of the media coverage of it and the (so called ) alternative Media and the constant spreading of fear and panic, and I call horse shit on most of what I've witnessed.
My feeling is that the aftermath of this Fear Mongering and of this Psychic Driving campaign and its economic consequences and its societal consequences and indeed the physical and mental health fallout of this Lockdown/social distancing bullshit will be far more long lasting, destructive and profitable than any virus could ever be .
@mercenary for hire. you said "The numbers are actually much bigger. Until they test everyone in the country on the same day all they have is a sample"
How do you know what the "actual" numbers are ? heres a question for you they are saying that you can have it and never have symptoms but still spread it .. scary right ? but how do they know this if they are only testing people with symptoms ?
-
If you've had it your blood will have antibodies that fought it and beat it.
I'm not angry about all this stuff at all.Just assessing the facts as best I can without getting worried. It's not the plot of a James Bond flick IMO where there's some fella living in a cave stroking a cat trying to get us to go cashless. That would be a shite movie.

I just hope that cat isn't infected...or maybe he is......muhahahaha!!
-
It must be hard for some lads it's all over the media 24 hours a day. They're watching the taxi business fall apart. And it's a post virus that nobody can see.
Yis need to buy an Xbox or a Playstation or a new sex doll or get a new hobby.I'd happily stay off for a few months and bank some of the 350 a week. The workaholics on here are struggling and it's starting to show.

10 now RIP

They Still havent said what they died of ? as usual causality is implied and not stated.
-
They should be looking at how Dublin cabbies are providing a service with little or no casualties.
-
One factor might be that the London bus drivers are still handling cash or we're until very recently.
I think Dublin bus stopped accepting cash weeks ago.Any of the buses I've seen have social distancing measures so that only one person can be seated every three rows. They're almost empty all the time.

Dublin bus drivers have never handled cash as far as I know ....they also have had screens for at least 20 years if me memory serves me correctly..... 8 drivers is quite alot to die .....I'm sure then from them figures you can speculate the drivers who got it must have run into the dozens if not hundreds ......kinda puts freenows comical DIY screens for taxi drivers into perspective and also the nonsense about having to get direct hits of spit and snot directly into your eye or mouth to catch it as screens are used in London too as far as I know
This thing is airbourne .......
If a bus has capacity for approx 80 passangers and this thing floats around( which I believe it does )..then within the confines of the vehicle a bus driver is breathing or is in contact with the same circulating air of a much greater ammount of people than a taxi driver ....the smaller confines volume of space of a taxi offset by the greater numbers of passengers could potentially lead to a bus driver being more susceptible to infection in theory ....
You would need to factor in also boris and his chief medical experts espousing the herd immunity stance they took before they realised that they wer looking at deaths in the hundreds of thousands if they kept that up ....
I dont think any of them bus drivers wer over 65 neither
-
....the salmon mousse moment ......
bus drivers sharing one steering wheel .....
most likely scenario....
they got it off each other

Virus is Airbourne and suspends in air when people talking, in mist from breath.Best to avoid getting close to anyone. The virus has spikes that cling to the walls of the lungs and attacks the cells. The body responds in activating the immune system and this depends on how strong those immune soldiers are and ready to battle this contagion.Screens in a small space, not a chance against this evil nasty virus.

How many drivers does it take to drive the bus ?

Ticket inspectors, you've got to hand it to them.

virus lives on plastic for days mr crow
...the buses are cleaned every nite wit a hoover and a car wash....ther wud be possibly 4- 5 drivers driving the one bus in a day ..plus the cleaners plus the shunters who park them when the driver drops them off plus maintenance personnel.....
I'm saying the same steering wheel could be touched by a multiple of people without ever bein cleaned up to now ....
That's how I'm suspecting 8 drivers and 2 controllers got the virus rather than people snottin on them ...
Why ther seems to be a high proportion of them gettin it compared to taxi drivers I spose
-
I don't think they take cash on London buses. Is it not all (virtual) Oyster these days?

Sorry Ochy, I was trying to be smart, fully understand your initial statement.
Keep well and safe to ALL.

The steering wheel full of gick and germs and virus
