If they said you could return to work in 8 weeks would you or would you wait and see how many other workers return to work and if there is enough work to justify giving up 350 ? Me personally I would wait 12 weeks .
-
I'm waiting till the pubs open again john and take it from there. When do you think that will be?
-
I'll tell yis when i get back from Wexford.
-
Dont know but a lot of my night time punters are restaurant and hotel workers I think it will take weeks before they are back up and running after the lockdown is removed .Recon about 20% of retail businesses wont reopen they will of lost their customers to on line business .Lad who does the SDS deliveries around here says its busier than Christmas .
-
On another note. This thing with the insurance about just insuring is not as straight forward as first thought. You can do it alright, but there is a bit of messing around with it. I thought you just break the link with your car by calling the NTA, and then calling the insurance company to tell them also. It seems there is no problem with the ins company, the problem is with the NTA. .they want you to take of the disks, send them to some address, re sit the suitability for the purposes of having new disks fitted, etc there is more Shiite as well but I can't remember what she told me

Dalymount WHY DID YOU ASK .Do you never know when to stay quiet .
-
The reason I asked was, on foot of an email I received which I did not request. It was quite clear and prompted me to ask the questions I felt like the email was warning me in some way, because I already broke the link, and rang the ins company, and I [Hought that was all I had to do

The smart guys are working now while there's hardly any drivers out and will start the 12 week payment scheme later on when we're all forced back because the payment stops
-

No sense driving if there are no customers .Plus the government will stop the Covid payments and tell people to If your self employed go back to work or if you lost your job apply for dole .I would think when the lockdown ends the self employed payments might be first to go .
-
It depends what you mean by smart. The guys who are not working at the moment are not doing so because of the obvious health risks, and the guys who are working are obviously doing it for the money I think it's only fair to say the next few weeks will determine who was the smart ones
-
Remember why we are getting paid Social Distancing .If thats removed then our reason to claim is removed .

Are you saying they'll stop the payment and force us back before the 12 weeks are up?
Some here think they're back on their school summer holidays

I'm staying at home for the money, no other reason, simply not economic to work while there's €350 a week on offer, the lads out working are heroes, I'll not have a bad word said about them!

Legally when you downgrade insurance from taxi to private, the license is no longer valid. its all red tape. just dont tell them nowt, what they dont know
wont hurt them!
-
I'm afraid your idea , and my idea of hero's differ greatly, but however we are all entitled to our opinion
-
Did you upgrade your motor tax from Taxi to private and return the tax disc .If you remember a Supreme Court judge ruled in the Dereg case that a taxi licence holder legally does not need to operate the taxi .So I own a taxi vehicle but I do not operate it as a taxi but its still a taxi vehicle .
-
Do you need to remove the door decals as well ?

I would think there are more infected people in Tesco on a daily basis than there are in hospital .

Who said you have to do another suitability test, DM? The decals are refitted FOC and you are legally obliged to inform NTA if you no longer have taxi insurance.
-
As soon as I get my new insurance disc from my insurers ill inform the taxithingey .
-
when you start working again, you have to drive to your local spsv centre, where they fit new discs, free of charge.
-
What if they're still closed?
-
Who said you have to do another suitability test, DM? The decals are refitted FOC and you are legally obliged to inform NTA if you no longer have taxi insurance.
That's what the lady in the NTA told me also....but she didn't expand on how suspending my licence would benefit me as my car is due to be changed next Feb and as of yet no decision has been made in relation to extensions being given in these exceptional times other than the measure that they have for public consultation that will only benefit licence holders who are due to change vehicle up to Dec 31st.
-
She told you you have to pass another suitability test?
The benefit to you is saving money on insurance. With Axa you can suspend or downgrade your policy hence saving 100% or 60% of the monthly premium.
-
What if they're still closed?
That is why im not gonna post them back. i told them my taxi will be parked up anyway, what is the point in posting them back?
-

Nah.....no new suitability,
I've already reduced my monthly insurance payments from €203 to €80,the NTA lady broke my driver link but i didn't suspend my taxi licence as having to reschedule an appointment to get new tamper proof discs wasn't worth the hassle for the sake of €12.50 per month unless i'm missing something else of impoertance.
-
You have to notify NTA if you no longer have PSV insurance. Your licence is then suspended as a matter of course.
-
.
-

I told her that i had already reduced my insurance with AXA,she only suggested breaking the driver link, she never said suspending the licence was necessary.

I think at that stage according to herself that they were trying to get the insurance companies concerned all on the same page.
-

Graveyards will be full of their families and victims.
-
That didn't work...try...I'll not have two bad words...said against them?
-

Some are stupid enough to believe if they don't drive their Taxi they cannot catch the virus or pass it on, there are far far more effective means of acquiring and gifting it than sitting with your back to people
-
I don't think drivers are stupid enough to think if they don't drive their taxi they won't catch the virus....i think they're wise enough to know if they do there's an increased risk that they could catch it and spread it to their own families,no doubt some if not all will catch it at some stage but at this moment in time stay the fuk at home and flatten the curve....that's what they're asking us to do and paying 350 per week to do it.
-
The €350 offer was extended to all self employed whose business stopped due to Covid 19, it applies to Taxi drivers in so far as there isn't the business out there to keep us all going, although we are considered an essential service and could continue to operate if brave and generous enough to do so, those applying hero status to themselves for being greedy feckers and taking the free money deserve nothing but derision
-
Nobody actually said they are not entitled to claim the 350 as well
-
12 weeks is good .i miss my freenow customers.Be all happy when we back working with virus gone.peace love and sleep my friends . shaanti prem aur neend

-
The goss I'm hearing is that some drivers/heroes are doing short shifts only on ranks fer cash only (no trail) and claiming the 350 also.

They should look at the Irish trade. Full service available to all other essential workers and exceptionally few casualties. In fact, so few that those opposed to essential services has taken too sensationalising completely irrelevant cases.
-
I was taking lunch yesterday with Mary Mulligan from the gaffs beside the flats and I was telling her about my pal The Rodent who recons its safe as houses to drive as long as you wash your hands .But I said the free 350 was a big incentive not to serve our heroes and the Rodent was a huge fan of our heroes .She then said he sounds sound tell him to volunteer to do inter hospital deliveries of samples ,bloods ,breast milk and other essential commodities .He could serve and get the 350 and if he signs up the fuel and tolls are paid for .

Is Mary any relation to buddy Mulligan the pride of the coombe ?

Worked for Allied Bottlers back in the day, delivering to Noctors. Every other lorry was a two-man, on Noctors it was a three-man job.
One to hand down the crates, one to load them onto the bogey, and one constantly running around the lorry to stop feral locals stealing crates and trays of booze...assault of the earth I believe they're called!

No, I remember Shay Sharkey, Jimmy Murphy, Mick Farrell (R.I.P.). Mick died in the Stardust. Shay started the day with a baby Powers to settle the nerves. We'd get a pint in every pub after every drop. And Elon Musk thinks he's ahead of the curve with autonomous vehicles. Those Bedfords made their own way back to the depot in Clontarf. 8)

Does a bit of TV presenting across the water I think.

Well if he does it must be presenting one of those ghost programmes, cause he's dead about 30 years

Could be a different Paddy McGuinness... I don't think the one I'm thinking of is dead. What killed him, anyway?

Probably. I don't think the lad I was thinking of was ever in the Navy.
