Title: 8,10 12 weeks
Post by: john m on April 10, 2020, 02:55:46 pm
If they said you could return to work in 8 weeks would you or would you wait and see how many other workers return to work and if there is enough work to justify giving up 350 ? Me personally I would wait 12 weeks .

On another note. This thing with the insurance about just insuring is not as straight forward as first thought. You can do it alright, but there is a bit of messing around with it. I thought you just break the link with your car by calling the NTA, and then calling the insurance company to tell them also. It seems there is no problem with the ins company, the problem is with the NTA. .they want you to take of the disks, send them to some address, re sit the suitability for the purposes of having new disks fitted, etc there is more Shiite as well but I can't remember what she told me

The reason I asked was, on foot of an email I received which I did not request. It was quite clear and prompted me to ask the questions I felt like the email was warning me in some way, because I already broke the link, and rang the ins company, and I [Hought that was all I had to do

No sense driving if there are no customers .Plus the government will stop the Covid payments and tell people to If your self employed go back to work or if you lost your job apply for dole .I would think when the lockdown ends the self employed payments might be first to go .

It depends what you mean by smart. The guys who are not working at the moment are not doing so because of the obvious health risks, and the guys who are working are obviously doing it for the money I think it's only fair to say the next few weeks will determine who was the smart ones

I'm staying at home for the money, no other reason, simply not economic to work while there's €350 a week on offer, the lads out working are heroes, I'll not have a bad word said about them!

Legally when you downgrade insurance from taxi to private, the license is no longer valid. its all red tape. just dont tell them nowt, what they dont know
wont hurt them!

Did you upgrade your motor tax from Taxi to private and return the tax disc .If you remember a Supreme Court judge ruled in the Dereg case that a taxi licence holder legally does not need to operate the taxi .So I own a taxi vehicle but I do not operate it as a taxi but its still a taxi vehicle .

That's what the lady in the NTA told me also....but she didn't expand on how suspending my licence would benefit me as my car is due to be changed next Feb and as of yet no decision has been made in relation to extensions being given in these exceptional times other than the measure that they have for public consultation that will only benefit licence holders who are due to change vehicle up to Dec 31st.

She told you you have to pass another suitability test?

The benefit to you is saving money on insurance. With Axa you can suspend or downgrade your policy hence saving 100% or 60% of the monthly premium.

Nah.....no new suitability,

I've already reduced my monthly insurance payments from €203 to €80,the NTA lady broke my driver link but i didn't suspend my taxi licence as having to reschedule an appointment to get new tamper proof discs wasn't worth the hassle for the sake of €12.50 per month unless i'm missing something else of impoertance.

Some are stupid enough to believe if they don't drive their Taxi they cannot catch the virus or pass it on, there are far far more effective means of acquiring and gifting it than sitting with your back to people

I don't think drivers are stupid enough to think if they don't drive their taxi they won't catch the virus....i think they're wise enough to know if they do there's an increased risk that they could catch it and spread it to their own families,no doubt some if not all will catch it at some stage but at this moment in time stay the fuk at home and flatten the curve....that's what they're asking us to do and paying 350 per week to do it.

The €350 offer was extended to all self employed whose business stopped due to Covid 19, it applies to Taxi drivers in so far as there isn't the business out there to keep us all going, although we are considered an essential service and could continue to operate if brave and generous enough to do so, those applying hero status to themselves for being  greedy feckers and taking the free money deserve nothing but derision

The Priest will say that at their funerals .

Bless their little cotton socks

What will he say for men that don't work and die when we/they get it.

Worked for Allied Bottlers back in the day, delivering to Noctors. Every other lorry was a two-man, on Noctors it was a three-man job.
One to hand down the crates, one to load them onto the bogey, and one constantly running around the lorry to stop feral locals stealing crates and trays of booze...assault of the earth I believe they're called!

No, I remember Shay Sharkey, Jimmy Murphy, Mick Farrell (R.I.P.). Mick died in the Stardust. Shay started the day with a baby Powers to settle the nerves. We'd get a pint in every pub after every drop. And Elon Musk thinks he's ahead of the curve with autonomous vehicles. Those Bedfords made their own way back to the depot in Clontarf. 8)
