What percentage of your work would be fn? Do you work mornings, evenings or nights. Is there much happening at night? How do you feel about every potential customer off the street being ballied up? Do you stop at night for blokes with masks on? I'm trying to get my head around the new normal as far as our job is concerned.  Most importantly,  are you worried about catching the disease? I've breathing problems as it is, not too sure how id feel with passengers coughing and spluttering everywhere.

See the pyschology of the medals working subconsciously, even though we don't like it, there is a desire to achieve gold, yes to know that you are getting more work, but also to get a medal, and show the boss how good we are.

I was advised about that a long time ago. Really? How, in what way? If you're saying you were advising me to become an ambassador BEFORE the disease then you are correct.  Only thing is I would have never become an ambassador before the disease,  unlike you. I was quite content getting my own work from the ranks and streets with minimal work from fn, unlike you. That has now changed because of the disease.  Because it has changed i must also change.  So dont start your "I told you so" bullshit. You changed long long before any disease,  motivated purely by greed. My motivation is survival ken, not greed, unlike your motivation.  I'm just saying it like it is kenneth.

'Greed' is a Big word to use against me Horse, I think Smarter or Wiser would be a better choice of word as I easily make multiplies of your Pox Covid PUP per week.

I have posted openly and honestly since this pandemic occurred in an effort to keep other forum users honestly updated, but you seemingly know better than me, let you do it your way and I'll do it mine.

maybe greed is a big word to describe your actions, maybe. I dont care if your making more than "my" pox pup payment ken. Hopefully you don't catch that disease ken or worse, spread it around Cork City or worse again, spread it onto a loved one. Some things are more important than money ken. My loved ones health being one. Mad the way money takes precedence over everything else for some people.  Thankfully I'm not one of them Ken.

Yis should be getting danger money anyway.I hope it stays busy for those that are working.Like I posted already many owner-drivers would need to earn nearly €450(517.50 including freenow fees) before expenses before they start getting any extra for their effort compared to taking the 350.

On September 17 many will be cut so more will head back on road.Be interesting to see what it's like then.

I wouldn't fancy it without my own bookings, I did a couple of days without bookings early on and while it ended up OK, it was tough, the amount of concentration required to get a FN instant job or prebook before they disappear off the screen can be intense and ultimately quite frustrating

A noticeable slowing over the last 5 days with the exception of Sat. FN jobs getting scarcer, or disappearing more quickly, maybe more drivers, ambassadors, or screen seekers?

Post by: mercenary for hire on August 11, 2020, 12:56:44 pm
There are a lot of businesses realising they won't be around after the government wage subsidies disappear. Employees are also realising they may be jobless soon so maybe cutting back in preparation.I've noticed the pubs are a bit quieter during the week. All the 350 payments will be down to 250 or 200 from Sept 17. That's a lot of discretionary cash removed from the economy.

In my extended circle of friends and family, two workings in aviation have been let go. One friend took redundancy and another two in the banks are praying for redundancy soon. Just like during the bad years those that still had jobs held back on spending out of fear that they might need the little bit the future.

It will be a different landscape. Sooner the vaccine reopens the place up the better. Until then all bets are off.I'm going back to the bunker.

A couple of local resto/pubs now, apart from closing early, are not opening on Mondays. One local publican told me that his books would not balance without the staff subsidy.

If they cannot prove their business is down by x amount they no longer qualify for the subsidies so some of the closings could be strategic.Or maybe I'm too cynical. One gastro pub where I am had no card facilities for a whole day.Very odd.Now I bring cash just in case so It kinda suits them.

Think that the turnover issue will be an "end of year returns" issue. I know one petrol centra/station whose business is booming, and is still getting staff subsidies.

Speaking with my own accountant over the last few days, she was saying that she's kinda expecting Revenue to offer self employed(they currently don't)the option to "warehouse" their liability for this year, you could always write to them and state your case if you had encountered problems,i'm filing my 2019 returns now and because i pay prelim tax i only owe a relatively small amount(Payable Nov 12th)and have up till Nov 11th to decide whether to pay prelim or enter Nil for 2020.
I'm due to change car next Feb so every cent i can save till then i will,my accountant is aware of this also.

I don't (rightly or wrongly) pay prelim. Never did since day one of becoming self employed. Surprisingly they didn't come after me yet! Anyway, I will have the full 2019 bill to pay. I don't know if they will accept fresh air. I saw the following (attached) on revenue site recently. I don't fully understand it, but sounds something like what you are talking about. I split it between the two images because the whole thing would not fit into one screen shot.. Cheers bud.I've dumped my bookkeeper that I've been using for 11 years. Too many reasons to list. I've literally had an email from the new guy I'll be using this year to come out and sign something a revenue agent form. I'll be finding out about the warehousing thing. I'll balance out the prelim thing next year as I know I'm going to be in a better position then.

@ Jonno, you should look into paying a monthly direct debit to Revenue once you're in a position to do so.  It saves you a big bill in Oct.

I generally put money away every month for tax and a car/repairs.....i'd rather have it gather a bit of interest(very little) in my account than Revenues but i understand the benefits.

A better option might be to "reduce" my income. I'm tired of hearing fellow drivers telling me of the ridiculously small amounts of returns they make year on year. Yet Joe bloggs here will be the one mug called for an audit[emoji23].

I should add that there have been months when i wouldn't....for whatever reason....didn't put anything away and i'd hate to have a Debit that i couldn't afford in a particular month coming iut of my account.
A better option might be to "reduce" my income. I'm tired of hearing fellow drivers telling me of the ridiculously small amounts of returns they make year on year. Yet Joe bloggs here will be the one mug called for an audit(http://s3.amazonaws.com/tapatalk-emoji/emoji23.png).
