Dublin's Capel Street and Parliament Street will be made traffic-free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings for a trial period to support businesses and facilitate outdoor dining this summer, Dublin City Council has said.
From 6.30pm to 11.30pm on those weekend evenings from next Friday 11 June, the streets will be closed to traffic. The council said that the trial will last six weeks, and will be assessed after that period. It follows a public consultation for pedestrianisation options for the street.
This measure is in addition to the increased pedestrian space already created by build-outs on Capel Street, and the closure of Capel Street and Ryders Row which will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7am next Friday 11 June.
Local bus diversions will be put in place for buses that usually serve Parliament Street. There will be no disruption to Luas services, while access for local residents will be maintained, the council added.
Well, one advantage is they can urinate & throw their cans into the Liffey. Less mess ::cheers

Preparations have been under way by Cork City Council, which was one of the first local authorities to respond to its traders and businesses in the wake of the economic impact of the pandemic.
Last summer, it temporarily pedestrianised six of its streets including Princes Street. Such was the success that it has fully pedestrianised 17 city centre streets in recent weeks as part of a Reimagining Cork City plan.

It wasnt down to the Lord Mayor. Many on DCC were in favour of this so as to encourage “outdoor socialising” many bars,cafes,restaurants on these streets welcome this move, oh and the cycle lobby.
Again, when it comes to the taxi business,no one from NTA, DCC or Gov cares.

YES but need to stay here as I dont have funds and not sure when I get to pension age under the new rules if I will get Contributory or Non Contributort Pension or a bit of both .You must be resident in Ireland to claim Irish Non Contributory pension .If I was younger I would be looking at emigrating after I complete my education .I did Germany and England in the 80s .

It will allow for travel across the bloc and was voted on by MEPs yesterday with the results revealed this morning.
The cert, will be officially implemented on July 1 and is due to be introduced in Ireland on July 19.
The pass will show if a passenger has been vaccinated, tested negative for Covid, or has recovered from the virus.
It will be available as a paper or digital pass and will include a QR code to secure people's data.

Ninth graders are an unruly bunch, more prone to playing Candy Crush than actually paying attention in class. So in an apparent attempt to get a roomful of freshmen students' attention, one teacher in Illinois hit them with a set of math problems he hoped might finally pique their interest in algebra.
"You take 600 mg of cocaine," he scribbled on the board. "Your body filters out 40 percent per hour. How high are you in three hours?"
The impromptu lesson even included some real-world financial planning, teaching the kids how to factor in interest if they need their dealer to front them a sack.
"Unfortunately, you can't pay your dealer, so she sets up a payment," the teacher wrote. "You owe her $1,000 at 25 percent daily. How much do you owe one year later?"
According to KMOV, parents of students at Roxana Senior High School were a little concerned when they found out their kids were getting quizzed about a schedule II narcotic in class.
"We don't need to be teaching children how long it takes to filter cocaine out of their bodies. That is ridiculous," parent Christy Scott told KMOV. "We should be preventing this and not teaching them how to get rid of it."
The school sent out a letter apologizing for Wednesday's lesson plan, and promised that it was "taking the necessary measures to ensure that the damage is repaired."
"Unfortunately, unacceptable examples were used in a high school math class causing some parent and student distress," the school wrote in a statement. "The faculty member has apologized to students and parents for this lapse in judgment and has reiterated the intent was never to promote or make light of illicit drug use."
But considering that today's teens don't really party like they used to, some parents figured that the lesson plan wasn't really all that bad.
"The teacher sent out an email explaining that some of the kids were in la la land, so he used an example that would grab their attention," one parent wrote on Facebook. "His example didn’t glorify, promote, or condone cocaine use. I wish some parents cared more about their kids learning math (arguably the most important subject taught in school) than finding new ways to be offended."
It's not entirely clear whether or not the teacher will be fired for his creative lecture. But when you think about some of the wildly inappropriate shit teachers have done in class, Wednesday's ordeal doesn't seem all that bad. It's not like the guy was openly doing coke in front of his students in class or anything.

JoAnne Bolser, teacher at Burns Middle School in Mobile, Alabama who presented school children with a maths test featuring questions on guns, drugs and prostitution
Joanne Bolser, who is set to retire this year, is accused of telling students to complete the exam which featured questions on 'hos turning tricks', 'drive-by shootings' and a drug dealer who 'sells an 8 ball'.
But shocked parents of Year 9 students, aged between 13 and 14, from Burns Middle School in Mobile, Alabama, have called it 'unacceptable'.
Bolser has now been suspended with an investigation launched by the school.
The 'LA Math Proficiency Test' is understood to be a parody quiz posted on the internet.
One of the questions in the quiz refers to 'Tyrone' who 'knocked up four girls in the gang' and asks: 'There are 20 girls in his gang. What is the exact percentage of girls Tyrone knocked up?'
Another references a drug dealer named Leroy, who 'sells an 8 ball to Antonio for $320 and 2 grams to Juan for $85 per gram'.
And one question explains that Dwayne 'pimps 3 ho's' and reads: 'If the price is $85 per trick, how many tricks per day must each ho turn to support Dwayne's $800 per day crack habit.'
The incident came to light after a mother, Erica Hall, was sent a picture of the test by her son on Friday.
She told WPMI NBC she “couldn’t believe" the photograph and added: “They took it as a joke, and she told them that it wasn't a joke, and they had to complete it, and turn it in.
“I was shocked because she's a strict teacher.”
Bolser will face a hearing and be able to appeal, but is understood to have been suspended just a day before the end of the school year.

Silver I have never taken a drug of any sort .Friend of mine ODed day before my 21st and I owe it to his memory not to do the same .I have lost other friends to drugs or drug violence .I see whats out there its as common as daylight .Our economy is bankrupt ,its time to tax and control supply and quality .I would think more people have died in Ireland from Drug abuse that Covid Cough and we havent spent .0001% of the money we spent on Covid Cough on drugs treatment or education .
