Two Dublin streets to go traffic-free on weekend nights

Dublin's Capel Street and Parliament Street will be made traffic-free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings for a trial period to support businesses and facilitate outdoor dining this summer, Dublin City Council has said.
 From 6.30pm to 11.30pm on those weekend evenings from next Friday 11 June, the streets will be closed to traffic.  The council said that the trial will last six weeks, and will be assessed after that period. It follows a public consultation for pedestrianisation options for the street.

This measure is in addition to the increased pedestrian space already created by build-outs on Capel Street, and the closure of Capel Street and Ryders Row which will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7am next Friday 11 June. 

Local bus diversions will be put in place for buses that usually serve Parliament Street.  There will be no disruption to Luas services, while access for local residents will be maintained, the council added.

Well, one advantage is they can urinate & throw their cans into the Liffey.  Less mess

FFS ! Yere losing 2 streets, Cork city is only about an eighth the size of Dooblin city and we lost 17 streets !

Preparations have been under way by Cork City Council, which was one of the first local authorities to respond to its traders and businesses in the wake of the economic impact of the pandemic.
Last summer, it temporarily pedestrianised six of its streets including Princes Street. Such was the success that it has fully pedestrianised 17 city centre streets in recent weeks as part of a Reimagining Cork City plan.

It wasnt down to the Lord Mayor. Many on DCC were in favour of this so as to encourage “outdoor socialising” many bars,cafes,restaurants on these streets welcome this move, oh and the cycle lobby.
Again, when it comes to the taxi business,no one from NTA, DCC or Gov cares.

Said it before,it wasn't that long ago that DCC didn't want any outdoor dining,sure they were fining business's for having sandwich boards out on the pavements without paying for the space they occupied and that they caused an obstruction for blind people....but now?

It sort of is down to the Lord Mayor Justin she chairs the meeting so sets the agenda .Different committees sit and make recommendations to the Whole Corporation .Shinners and Greens have an agreement on who gets the Chair .Greens know next election they are wiped out so are getting their agenda in now .Bike Lanes ,Bike stands ,Cycle tracks ,House insulation .Pedestrianisation .Shinners are in favour of all these things and can point to the Greens if people are unhappy .The over riding issue for the Irish Government is how soon can we serve pints indoors .There is a logic to this .If its safe to gargle indoors everybody will be delighted so they cannot object to returning to work in a Shop or factory .Brits are at the same shit so are other Countries get Hospitality open .What happens if your eating Curry Chips and drinking Carlsberg in the middle of the Road and an Ambulance or Fire Brigade needs to use that street .
