So I'm considering returning to work in the next few weeks but I have no screen.I'm guessing I'll be expected to have a screen even though I probably don't care anymore..There's one I've seen that looks decent quality and has a circular glory hole thing.Who's selling them and how much did yis pay?

Merch the screens make the job very impersonal and you feel very confined .Go on line look foe a piece of Plexi glass or Polycarbonate you will make one for about a score .

Maybe I like impersonal John..after the first couple of years driving the taxi I realised I'd heard everything I wanted to hear.
I'm assuming customers are expecting screens because they think we're more infected that most other people.Are yis not getting passengers refusing to travel without a screen?

Dont know if customers expect screens if they have been sitting under a hail of birdshit drinking pints with no roof .If they got needled they think they are bombproof .Im doing the Suitability this week if I can be bothered wont be putting the screen back .

I really don't want to wear a mask and I should be fully vaccinated in a month so I was thinking the screen might stop the passengers whinging.

I would prefer the mask than the screen .If the passenger wears a mask etc etc .if not !

Myself and I think hal got one aswell ....Oscars garage .....couldn't be better.......only ting is be careful wat you clean it wit as it scratches real easy...whatever yu use test it in a small area first

Another ting to watch merc....if a big fat cnut gets in the front and decides to shift the seat all the way back then it cud break .....so don't tighten the straps too tight to give it bit flexibility....

I Had 2 cloths in me car Johnny ....both them came frompetrol station ...anyway one was grand then another day I started cleaning with the other an it scratched it .....I didn't use any solvent or windowleen neither ...just dry so I'm saying watch wat type clothe yu use

Think yu can get them delivered but I went up an let them fit it then examined it before I left .....I didn't trust the post .....if yu got the wrong one or it damaged.....anyway its a very professional and sturdy ....delighted wit it ...shut of fitted one years ago

I'm probably one of the last ones back!Puppy money comes down by another €50 in September.Expect a few more having to cover their overheads and returning to work.

Re the screens, I'm back part-time a couple of weeks and only once or twice have I seen a "TAXI+SCREEN" job on FreeNow. So I don't think too many people are looking for them? I barely make bronze level so maybe I'm not getting them anyways?
Although an auld wan street-hailed me and asked if I had a screen. I did so she was happy to get in. Once we got to her house, she asked me to carry her shopping to the door. So I potentially contaminated her shopping bags with my dirty hands. Then she paid me in cash so there was probably traces of snot, shite & cocaine on the notes we swapped. But, hey, at least I had a screen!

I've seen lots of drivers working without the mask and a good few have them on their chin on standby with a customer in the car.Many Dublin bus drivers aren't wearing masks also.Is there a possibility that the regulations only apply to the passengers?

I can promise you the Screen I made is of a higher standard than any other over the counter ones .There are pictures of it up here somewhere .And I even pointed out to Drivers who were going to fit screens the danger of using Perspects and advised Polycarbonate should be used instead .

You don't have to wear a mask if you're on your own (or with someone from the same household).

A screen is not worth the hassle, more trouble than they are worth IMHO. in 16 mths only one very old lady was unhappy that I didn't have one. A few casual questions regarding the pros and cons of them, that's it.

There is no standard for screens .You need to inform your insurer that you modified the internal area of your vehicle .As I said I wont be fitting one but the one I made is of a higher standard than any others on the market .The shite Free Now were selling have more gaps than Trumps Wall only purpose was to carry branding and be promoted as a safety device .Sit in your driving seat and get that Sort from upstairs under the Russians to spray some cheap perfume in the rear of the car if you can smell it then the cabin is not airtight so the Dizzzzzzzzzeeeeeezzzze can circulate freely in your 250 euro adorned taxi .

Dangerous badly designed piece of shit .Look how proud of the back seat it is sticking out into the door entrance if somebody caught their hand or hip on that getting into your vehicle you could be homeless paying compo .I would think that that screen is impeding the access to the vehicle .

It looks well designed, IMO... although it doesn't say how thick the plastic is?
Given that it's marketed as a security screen as well as a sneeze guard one would assume it's considerably better than the Free Now equivalent, which is paper thin. It is pricey but with up to a grand available for vouched restart expenses that's not such a big deal, I guess.

i've a charlie sheen that i got from hailo. i won't strap a yoke to my face. ye don't cover up a face this gorgeous.
if you want to do some driving in the immediate future you'll need some sorta charlie in place or you'll be driven around the bend by the mask and rubber glove brigade. last october will go down in infamy as the worst period of my taxi driving career.
i had to listen to about 10 years worth of bollocks in the space of around 4 weeks. i never thought i'd find myself praying to pick up druggies and dope dealers instead of these fuckin cabbages.

I have one and they're extremely well designed and shaped and curved to match the car seats etc,they don't impede fukall but sure John knows it all.

Yea I taut bout that ratti ....hal pointed out that if they are cut the screen still becomes an obstacle to attack ....weras without it yu can just get a knifein the neck without warning ...and its also gives yu time to react if that situation arises ....the thing will definitely be a hindrance loose or fitted....you can if you like fitted metal cable ties as an added security and delay ......
Ther only other option is to try pull it back with bare hands which cud cut the hand off them .....an also a heads up on aggression.....

I drilled small holes to use cable ties which would be harder to cut from the rear passenger cabin when they're pulled tight as opposed to the fabric straps supplied.

I've had no complaints or problems john....and my seat is pretty far back in a prius....the car is clearly too small for me considerin I'm a big tall handsome strappin fit up for it wit the ladies ( owlones) 100 percent celt........as regards freenows......I remember seeing ther video of ther screen they made up out of perspex by sum student workin in mount St.....an I actually did piss myself laughing for a few days .......they really haven't a fukin breeze notion wat they on about in ther.....a checkout girl in thriftys wud know better
