Small Public Service Vehicle (Emergency Measure COVID-19) (Fees) Regulations 2021
The purpose of the Small Public Service Vehicle (Emergency Measure COVID-19) (Fees) Regulations 2021 is to give effect to a renewal fee waiver by temporarily amending the renewal fees referenced in Schedule 1 to the Taxi Regulation (Small Public Service Vehicle) Regulations 2015 through a standalone, time bound clause for the calendar year 2022.
As a result ‘standard’ renewal fees will be waived for the calendar year 2022.

-
Most likely they will throw in the Motor tax and NCT fee refund fer 2022 aswell ??
That is if'n they ever actually tell us how to claim the promised refund fer the above.
-
Knowing them it will probably require a Tax clearance cert to show you are still active .They cant have multi plate owners claiming for parked up cars on mass .The rebate should be automatic they know if you renewed or not from their own database .
-
That was purely for MPO's....letting a plate to be inactive for another year.
-
I agree John M it should be automatic just the same as suitability is at the moment.
Most likely when the civil servants are finished we will need to fill out 2 'War and Peace' forms fer the poxy 150.
-
Fair play.

Badabing was correct so!!

Nice one.I better stock up on the isopon and duct tape.

Looks like taxis reaching end of life in 2022 are getting a stay of execution until end of 2022...
That's a total of over 4,000 taxis getting a life extension. The fleet (https://www.nationaltransport.ie/taxi/statistics-and-legislation/vehicle-licences-county-and-category/) is only 18,996 vehicles (incl WATs, limos etc) so about 20%. Imagine if 20% of taxis disappeared over the Covid 2 years!
-
This is good news. That's 4000 heroes that aren't sweating about getting finance.Lets be honest they weren't gonna leave over a change of vehicle, they would have ended up renting or borrowing from somewhere and working extra hours to pay it off.
Fair play to the NTA for not leaving it until September/Oct/November to tell the affected drivers.Erm is gonna be furious!Think I'll buy a lotto ticket..
-
These are RC's stats from his trade statistics page at the top.
That's some number of inactive licences! RC's total is 32.5k vehicle licences, 19k active and 13.5k inactive (~40% inactive) :o :o :o

Good few idle rentals and limos in there. The two year period to keep the plates lapsed should mean drivers can stay out of the industry until this has finished.I wouldn't have reactivated mine only for I was worried I couldn't get through the NCT in time.My bank account only started to feel the pain after I paid my insurance. Now I have to think about working.Awful stuff.

can we cut through all the hairy bollocks.
my 2012 is due to be condemned in february 2022.
what does that mean for me.

This proposed regulation will repeal the Small Public Service Vehicle (Emergency Measure Covid-19) Regulations 2021, and will provide emergency COVID-19 protection to the 2,095 vehicles due to reach their maximum permissible age during 2022 for the first time,
You're good for another year also Doc.
-
So work would have to increase by 50% on current figures to stay the same if all the sleepers come back into the game.
-
It'll need to increase when i get back.

I'm probably wrong but I read it slightly differently.
In light of the ongoing nature of the pandemic and concerns regarding the potential impact of the ‘Delta variant’ on the SPSV industry, NTA proposes now to enact another extraordinary measure. This proposed regulation will repeal the Small Public Service Vehicle (Emergency Measure Covid-19) Regulations 2021, and will provide emergency COVID-19 protection to the 2,095 vehicles due to reach their maximum permissible age during 2022 for the first time, as well as further protection to the 2,030 vehicles who availed of the previous measures and are now due to reach their amended maximum permissible age in 2022. The 4,125 vehicles concerned will have to maintain six monthly roadworthiness and suitability inspections
NTA seeks to amend Regulation 31 of the Taxi Regulation (Small Public Service Vehicle) Regulations 2015, Maximum Permissible Age Requirements, such that the 4,125 affected vehicles would remain eligible to be licenced, all other obligations being met, throughout 2022. There is no change to the intent or practice of the Small Public Service Vehicle (Emergency Measure COVID-19) Regulations 2021.
"Throughout 2022" - Does that mean Dr MGB is ok until the end of 2022 or will he get a 12 month extension until Feb 2022?
-
I also could be wrong but when I was discussing the my current extension with the lady from the NTA they gave me until April 2022.Now I assume it's gonna run until April 2023 now should the duct tape and isopon hold up.
Fuk me I had to check the calender to see what year it was. It's 2021 in case any of yis were wondering.July as well..
-
I think carry on carrying on Merch .Look at the Pubs they had to have 2 meters now they dont they were not allowed drink at the bar now they might and the hour and three quarters is gone .They are making it up by the minute .
-
When I'm out charging the battery I never see another taxi as old as mine.I never thought I'd turn into that oddball taxi driver that refuses to replace his car....but here I am.
I bet when I go back to work there will be 50 lads putting my plate into the driver app every shift.

I read the article in detail also Watty and I had the exact same question ??, I'm guessing that DMG is good to go fer another year, but that's just a guess as the article is not well phrased leaving anomalies.
He definately has till year end 2022.
I hope that helps DMG ?
-
I meant to say it clearer but DMG should be good until Feb 2023.Check with the NTA to be certain.

"Should be good" hardly inspires too much confidence fer a man trying to earn a living.
The NTA should have had the article proper and complete before posting it.
-
I doubt DMG gives a bollox he's gonna have to ring the NTA anyway.I'm certain he will be good but always check anyway.Dont ever believe what any taxi driver tells ya.He probably has about 100k under his mattress from all the hours he was working while we were off.

The Docs car will reach it's maximum permissible age FOR THE FIRST TIME DURING 2022....as far as i understand that he's covered...as are all the vehicles that were previously granted the extension.
-
@Cruiser,
Got that aswell, that's just the lapsed/inactive licence extension that was granted as part of the last Draft.
-
I dunno lads I reckon we could drag this out for another ten pages..
-
I'd say ermy would just like to drag you out....full stop!!

That's nothing to do with the car Ken....that was the most recent Draft that was passed with regard to lapsed/inactive licences being given an extra year before they need to be reactivated before they're gone forever,
The current Draft "Proposal" is in relation to vehicles being allowed to operate beyond their maximum permissable age which will encompass vehicles that have already been granted an extension plus vehicles that will reach their age limit for the first time next year.
As with all the previous Draft proposals, they've all been passed.
-
Hal that could be long fingered until they see how many drivers return to work if there are loads back then they might say .We have numbers covered .

What will be long fingered....the current draft proposal?
Doubt it John.....this is not an NTA initiative, this is being driven by politicians who are being lobbied by their constituents, they know the age group of these licence holders, most would be of our age and more than likely end up on the scratcher for the rest of their lives if their future livelihoods are removed,to be fair John....most of us them are unemployable!!

It was a badly worded document leaving many questions unanswered.
I think Hal was right in Cruiser's case.
But in DMG's case I think he is OK till Feb 2022.
We really should not have to be discussing this and as experienced Taxi drivers should not have to be guessing about what rules apply to whom or what.

Thats exactly why they are doing it Hal so they will be watching who is returning .But there are other issues No names no scandal .I had an Hours work earlier this week went into a Shop fitting Company to reweld work that somebody else fucked up .Two of the Chippies have bought WATs used but got the Grant another two of the Work force are getting theres .If you drive parts of Dublin 12 you can see these vans parked on the footpath outside the workshop .If the fleet is growing faster than lads are leaving then they wont bother trying to prevent losses .Used WATs are a cheap runaround get you a small business and a car to drive as your daily .Instead of age extensions we should be looking for grants for lads to change their aged motors and do away with the WAV grants to new entrants .
-
Ah the Doc will be good to go also,
I'm just glad the NTA have made these decisions early in the year to give some peace of mind to licence holders,i've expressed in mails to the NTA and my local TD's that the NTA have been slow to announce measures that could help to ease the concerns of licence holders.
