Post by: John m on December 24, 2021, 03:16:16 pm
Just got a text from Billy the Bastard .Leopardstown is behind closed doors .So 5000 racegoers for each of the four days wont be available .Use to be a good shuttle from the Course to the Goat or Lep Inn .Still waiting on this evenings Dizzeeze figures see if they hit 10,000 .Rumour was if they hit 10,000 pubs wont reopen after Christmas day .?

Leopardstown Racecourse to go behind closed doors for Christmas Festival
• No general public at this year’s Christmas festival
• Industry, Owners and members only permitted to attend
• Full refunds will be processed as soon as possible
Tim Husbands, Chief Executive of Leopardstown Racecourse, said:
“We have seen the rising case numbers nationally and locally reflected in our staff over the past few
days, a situation that has become increasingly concentrated over the past 24 hours and has forced us
to make this late decision. It makes it impossible for Leopardstown to provide a safe and enjoyable
experience for the general public and has led us to make the difficult call to close the festival to the
general public.
I know this will be hugely disappointing news to all of those who had purchased tickets in advance, as
it is deeply disappointing to the team here who have worked so hard in putting a fantastic festival
together. Our team will process refunds as soon as possible so please do not call or visit the racecourse
we will issue your refund in due course and no later than 28 days after the event. We appreciate your
patience in this matter.
Thankfully we still have the staff necessary and expertise to put on four brilliant days of racing from
Sunday which you can view on RacingTV and RTE.

My other half just got a positive result. We live on top of each other...she had two days of flu symptoms and is now on the mend.I still haven't had any symptoms at all. There must be lot of people who are asymptomatic just walking around doing what they normally do spreading the virus.

All good John thanks.

It takes two days to get a PCR appointment and another 48 hours to get a result. You can't blame people for not bothering to get tested.I'm not gonna get tested myself as I'll be nearly out of my isolation period by the time I get a result. Not worth the hassle.

If your lady has it you can claim 350 if you are self isolating ?

Dunno I'd probably need to contact a doctor.I wasn't working anyway so I likely would have been off.I'm still on the 203.

I think when I filled out the contact tracing form if you have symptoms they offer you two PCR tests and if your asymptomatic they send out antigen tests.Haven't heard back yet.

I THINK if somebody who you live with has the fever you are required to do a flow test and if positive go for the PCR either way you should isolate and if your isolating claim the 350 you might need to name the convicted carrier do they issue them with any number when they pass sentence .Only thing is you can only get 1 welfare payment so if your on the PUP I dont know can you qualify ?

Some of the men who were phased off PUP 1.1 are now getting 2 and a half on PUP 2.0. Would it be worth your while signing off and on again?

I think my local publican was talking to a man who hires casual labour. He changed the usual jolly to Leopardsatown to a function room race day a couple of months back, complete with on course style bookmakers... Is that legal?

Most countries incl Ireland & UK have changed their rules so medics don't have to isolate as long at us plebs.

UK planning a lockdown on roughly 27-28th Dec.  We jumped from 7k to 11k cases in one day.  Maybe we'll do the same?  NYE is cancelled already so wouldn't be a big loss for businesses.  Companies like Currys.ie have already started their 'Jan' sales so they're not expecting people to buy in-store...

That's the licensed premises not the shebeen, Hal.

They own The Track and Tracksports bookies, one of his brothers does the on course bookmaking, presumably he'll be providing the service.

AFAIK, strictly speaking it's illegal to take bets on a licensed premises but I suppose a blind eye might be appropriate given the circumstances.

Yes I noticed that RC.I've a feeling it's possible but I dunno if it's worth chasing.Welfare could be accused of discrimination and they might have to reinstate long term PUP recipients to the previous rate after Christmas, depending of course on what restrictions are brought in. I saw Barret asking Leo about this issue in the Dail.

Yes you are correct, a publicans licence is one thing, a gambling licence is another and never the twain shall meet.
I remember having big problems back in the day fer a Bookies licence fer a new city shop because the shop unit previously had a historic publicans licence, even though it had long since expired it took months to get sorted.

On the other hand I myself did exactly as what you suggested above and went to a suburban pub many years ago at the proprieters request and took bets all 3 days during the Cheltenham festival, no till, no computer, just a bunch of dockets, a table, pen and paper and a cash float.

We also converted a Barna shed to a Bookies office at Cork city football stadium with similar tactics but someone (Paddy Puker) objected to the Gardai and we were closed down after a few weeks.

It is kinda illegal, it's like stopping on a double yellow line the Guard will tell you to move on before he fines you.

Paddy Puker are notorious fer reporting any type of non legalised gambling to the Gardai, they even have a Team watching out fer it, and also checking every other Bookies applications fer new licences that every T is crossed and every I is dotted.

Interesting thing happened at Leopardstown .Why the crowds did not appear and the Horsey People are fucking pissed off .Seems that the people who do the catering were not willing to supply all the staff needed to operate table service especially as Leopardstown bars on race day must be clear two hours before closing time (6oc)unless they have a bar extension or Music licence .With no catering the Course would of had to pick up the bill for all the security and Cleaning .The other two meetings in Ireland went ahead with crowds and pints .Might be some truth in this I got it from a Girl that works there on Racedays .
