I think my local publican was talking to a man who hires casual labour. He changed the usual jolly to Leopardsatown to a function room race day a couple of months back, complete with on course style bookmakers... Is that legal?

Just thinking about thinking about stuff .If The Irish Horse Racing Board cant get labour to run the races due to Dizzeeze then how many Nurses ,Cleaners ,Doctors  are out sick in the Hospitals .Lockdown More must be on the cards .Will the Pubs reopen On Sunday ?
Most countries incl Ireland & UK have changed their rules so medics don't have to isolate as long at us plebs.

UK planning a lockdown on roughly 27-28th Dec.  We jumped from 7k to 11k cases in one day.  Maybe we'll do the same?  NYE is cancelled already so wouldn't be a big loss for businesses.  Companies like Currys.ie have already started their 'Jan' sales so they're not expecting people to buy in-store...

That's the licensed premises not the shebeen, Hal.

They own The Track and Tracksports bookies, one of his brothers does the on course bookmaking, presumably he'll be providing the service.

AFAIK, strictly speaking it's illegal to take bets on a licensed premises but I suppose a blind eye might be appropriate given the circumstances.

"Some of the men who were phased off PUP 1.1 are now getting 2 and a half on PUP 2.0. Would it be worth your while signing off and on again?"

Yes I noticed that RC.I've a feeling it's possible but I dunno if it's worth chasing.Welfare could be accused of discrimination and they might have to reinstate long term PUP recipients to the previous rate after Christmas, depending of course on what restrictions are brought in. I saw Barret asking Leo about this issue in the Dail.

Yes you are correct, a publicans licence is one thing, a gambling licence is another and never the twain shall meet.
I remember having big problems back in the day fer a Bookies licence fer a new city shop because the shop unit previously had a historic publicans licence, even though it had long since expired it took months to get sorted.

On the other hand I myself did exactly as what you suggested above and went to a suburban pub many years ago at the proprieters request and took bets all 3 days during the Cheltenham festival, no till, no computer, just a bunch of dockets, a table, pen and paper and a cash float.

We also converted a Barna shed to a Bookies office at Cork city football stadium with similar tactics but someone (Paddy Puker) objected to the Gardai and we were closed down after a few weeks.

It is kinda illegal, it's like stopping on a double yellow line the Guard will tell you to move on before he fines you.

Paddy Puker are notorious fer reporting any type of non legalised gambling to the Gardai, they even have a Team watching out fer it, and also checking every other Bookies applications fer new licences that every T is crossed and every I is dotted.

Interesting thing happened at Leopardstown .Why the crowds did not appear and the Horsey People are fucking pissed off .Seems that the people who do the catering were not willing to supply all the staff needed to operate table service especially as Leopardstown bars on race day must be clear two hours before closing time (6oc)unless they have a bar extension or Music licence .With no catering the Course would of had to pick up the bill for all the security and Cleaning .The other two meetings in Ireland went ahead with crowds and pints .Might be some truth in this I got it from a Girl that works there on Racedays .
