It's 100% renewable following the CRU definition. Meaning that if you purchase 1000kWh of energy during the month, in that month they must provide 1000kWh of green energy to the grid. That green energy could be supplied at midday but if you're not consuming at midday then you will not be directly consuming green.

GOVERNMENT SHOULD PUT ME IN CHARGE ...I POSTED THIS THREE MONTHS AGO ...There is growing alarm in Government over the threat of fuel rationing , while the price of petrol and diesel is on the brink of soaring again.
Sources say nationwide rolling blackouts loom due to Europe-wide supply problems.
The estimated risk of blackouts and the implementation of emergency fuel rationing plans has increased again, the Irish Independent understands, with senior officials planning for “when, not if” scenarios.
Also, from early next week, diesel and petrol prices are predicted to rise to €2-a-litre once again.
While Government leaders are playing down the threat publicly, significant planning to secure energy supplies to essential workers and services is under way.
The Energy Supply Emergency Group, chaired by Secretary General of the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications Mark Griffin has been meeting regularly and is due to meet again next week.
One source told the Irish Independent that due to the nature of the emergency energy supply plans, the first to be affected would be major energy users, a high proportion made up of foreign direct investment.
A source said there had been discussions around what the reputational damage could be to Ireland if this happened.
“What would that mean if those who bring investment began to lose confidence in Ireland?
“That has all been discussed, but the general feeling is if Ireland is forced to take that kind of action, so has the rest of Europe.”

Meanwhile, officials in agriculture and health have also sought assurances that households and hospitals would be protected in the event of rationing.
One source said: “Most rural dwellers rely on oil for fuel which is not as vulnerable to supply problems as gas.
“The big threat to the country is if Putin suddenly turns off the gas to Europe and we are all left scrambling.
“At present, we are in a better situation than mainland EU states which are currently dealing with gas restrictions. We get the vast majority of our gas supply through the UK.”
Another informed source who attends the Energy Emergency Supply Group meetings said the fact the Government is playing down the reality of the situation is no surprise.
“It’s 50/50 there will be very significant disruption to energy supply to Irish households this winter.
“It has already started, with major energy users being told that they must come off the grid at certain times.
“What happens next, is more of them will be told they have to come off the grid more often and for longer periods.
“Then you can pretty much guarantee gas will be maintained to households, no matter what. They would shut the industry down before cutting off gas to homes.
“Technically, it is much more difficult to disconnect and reconnect gas to individual homes. It would take months to turn them back on.
“The worst-case scenario is where we would have to introduce blackouts to homes, but this is more of a reality now than it ever was.
“Ireland’s recent history has seen several worst-case scenarios become a reality, including the crash and the pandemic. So not having a healthy fear right now would be ill-considered.”
Environment and Transport Minister Eamon Ryan’s recent RTÉ interview raised eyebrows within his own department.
Mr Ryan complained about newspapers printing details of “dramatic scenarios”.
“We expect to be able to supply the power that this country needs in the next two to three months,” he said.
One source said the fact he did the interview in the first place was surprising.
“He wants to talk about renewables. He doesn’t want to talk about the risk to energy security that is unfolding as we speak.
“But his officials are certainly very concerned about energy security. They have a path worn to the Department of the Taoiseach.”
Major energy users are already implementing emergency plans. Reserve generators are being used in a lot of industrial sites.
How emergency supply plans will unfold has also been discussed.
“If we introduce rolling blackouts, before getting to that stage, say to anyone with a backup generator to start running off that.
“Suppliers would go to their major users and tell them to come off the grid for a specific period of time every day. And this period of time will grow longer every day.
“But ultimately, the end game is that you could well have a situation where homes will be told they will be without power for certain times every day.
“And these blackouts will roll around the country.”

TOLD YA ....THE worst is yet to come for electricity and gas customers with “no end in sight” to the forces driving bills sky-high, Energy Minister Eamon Ryan has warned.
Mr Ryan said there was “no miracle cure” and “no way to cushion everyone” from the impact of the war in Ukraine on energy prices.
“We are in an absolute crisis. People are not going to really see it coming until the bills hit in November, December, January and February,” he said.

I think the sh1t hit the fan today. Electric Ireland, with a million customers, put up their prices by 27% for the leccy and ~40% for gas. Prices go up in 30 days!
Those million customers are Mr & Mrs Average who just go with the flow and don't change supplier every year or ring around for deals. And they vote!
Edit: or to put it another way. Bills went up 30% in Aug and now another 27% on Oct. I don't think the Aug bills have been sent yet. Imagine how grim it will be for some people to open their fuel bills in December when the kids are screaming for the latest and greatest from Santa!

Ireland’s reliance on highly-paid workers at multinationals puts future tax receipts at risk, the Department of Finance has warned. A surge in income tax receipts last year - the take was €3.7bn or 16pc up on pre-pandemic levels - was largely down to wage increases and not job creation, the Department said in its annual tax report. Pandemic-proof sectors such as IT and pharmaceuticals drove the bumper tax take last year, which has continued into 2022. However, Government is increasingly worried not only about a loss of corporation tax revenue as a result of global tax reform, but also job losses and a movement of high-earners out of Ireland. “In the event of a shock to the multinational sector, this would also result in a substantial loss to income tax receipts. As such, the concentration risk – where a relatively large share of income and corporate tax receipts arises in large multinational firms – is a significant vulnerability for the public finances,” Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe said at the publication of the annual tax report. Last year’s OECD deal - to tax large corporations 15pc on their global income and shift taxing rights to countries where they make their sales - could see Ireland lose around €2bn a year in corporation tax receipts once it is implemented, which is unlikely to be before 2024. If that - or an economic slowdown - forces a reduction in multinational investment in Ireland it could herald a “very substantial loss to income tax (and PRSI) receipts”, the tax report said. Corporation tax receipts saw the largest percentage jump last year - 41pc or €4.4bn higher than 2019. They are expected to come in even higher in 2022 than the total €15.3bn collected last year. The Irish Fiscal Advisory Council said this week that the overall tax take could come in €3.5bn ahead of estimates the Government made in the summer economic statement just a few weeks ago. But it said that without “excess” corporation tax - amounts that can’t be justified by the performance of the domestic economy - the budget would be in deficit instead of surplus this year. It warned the Government to put excess receipts into a rainy day fund or a new pensions reserve fund to pay for the mushrooming costs of allowing people to keep retiring at age 66. The Department of Finance estimates that the Government will need to find an extra €7bn to fund pensions and other age-related expenditure on public services by the end of the decade.

WHEN ONE NUT JOB HOLDS A WHOLE COUNTRY TO RANSOME .....Energy Minister Eamon Ryan has redoubled his opposition to a proposed liquified natural gas (LNG) storage facility on the Shannon estuary – despite the energy supply crisis he dubs “beyond the oil crisis of the 1970s”.
An Bord Pleanála will soon rule on a planning application for the facility, and the Taoiseach said on a visit to Kerry last month that the development is “among options which have to be considered” due to the war in Ukraine.
Mr Ryan has also ruled out nuclear energy for Ireland, despite it now being dubbed “green” in certain limited circumstances by the EU, in an initiative driven by Irish commissioner, Mairéad McGuinness.
“The war in Ukraine has changed everything, there’s no doubt about that, and the scale of this energy crisis is beyond the oil crisis of the 1970s,” Mr Ryan told the Irish Independent. “We have to look at a variety of energy storage facilities – but that doesn’t mean you go with Ballylongford”.

DALE must of heard a rumor ........The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has fined social media platform Instagram €405 million for violations of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
It follows an investigation into breaches relating to children's data which was commenced on 21 September 2020 on foot of information provided to the DPC by a third party, and in connection with processing identified by the DPC itself.

I'd say the tech companies are happy enough here. Our DPC is pretty weak and understaffed - they'd face a much tougher scrutiny if they went elsewhere in Europe. Apparently all the other EU DPC's are fed up with her office and how inefficient it is. In contrast, I believe France has been lashing out the fines as well.

One of the first experts to forecast the 2008 recession is sounding the alarm bells that another big economic downturn is on the way.
With recession fears in the U.S. mounting, many economists are predicting such a downturn as early as this year. Earlier this month, Bank of America strategists wrote they expected a “mild recession” to hit sometime next year. Others, like former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, have been more bearish with their recession forecasts, predicting that only a deep recession will be enough to fix the 40-year-high inflation hitting the country.
Now economist Nouriel Roubini—a New York University professor and the CEO of Roubini Macro Associates—whose prescience of the 2007 and 2008 housing market crash earned him the nickname Dr. Doom—seems to have chosen a side.
In an interview with Bloomberg this week, Roubini said that a recession is likely to hit the U.S. by the end of 2022 before spreading globally next year, conceivably lasting for the entirety of 2023.
“It’s not going to be a short and shallow recession; it’s going to be severe, long, and ugly,” Roubini said.
The debt problem
To fend off rising U.S. inflation, the Federal Reserve has implemented an aggressive series of interest rate hikes to put the brakes on the economy. The goal is to engineer a soft landing for the economy, where inflation returns to the Fed’s target 2% annual rate, without triggering a prolonged economic downturn or significant rise in unemployment.
But with the current economic climate, the Fed’s soft landing goal is “mission impossible” according to Roubini, who sees the rapid rise in both corporate and government debt over the past year as a damning indicator.
During the 2008 recession, Roubini argued that large amounts of consumer and corporate debt had been mismanaged and neglected by credit agencies and the federal government, contributing to the downturn. In his interview with Bloomberg, he noted that very similar threats are facing the economy today.
Roubini said that the environment created by rising interest rates does not bode well for the rising levels of global debt amassed in the wake of the pandemic. As lending rates continue to increase—as the Federal Reserve has signaled they will—it could create a growing number of so-called zombie companies, firms that formed during the pre- and early-pandemic era of easy credit, but are now stumbling along unable to turn a profit or finance their debts.
“Many zombie institutions, zombie households, corporates, banks, shadow banks, and zombie countries are going to die” as rates continue rising, Roubini said.
The “long and ugly recession” will also devastate financial markets, Roubini warned. The S&P 500—which upon last week’s higher-than-expected inflation reading had one of its worst days this year—could fall by anywhere between 30% and 40%, he said, depending on how severe the recession is.
Worst-case scenario
But despite interest rate hike after interest rate hike, Roubini said that inflation in the U.S. could persist due to rippling supply-chain shocks from the pandemic, the ongoing consequences of the Ukraine war, and China’s zero-COVID policy continuing to slow economic activity in the country.
That combination of low economic growth and unyielding inflation could lead to a global worst-case scenario of 1970s-style stagflation, Roubini warned, where prices remain high but economies stagnate anyway. Institutions including the World Bank have warned multiple times this year that a return to 1970s stagflation remains a serious concern for the global economy.
It is far from the first time Roubini has expressed his pessimistic views on the economy’s future. In 2020, Roubini warned that a new “great depression” was poised to hit the U.S. during the 2020s, citing rising debt levels. And in July, Roubini predicted that a “severe recession and a severe debt and financial crisis” was just around the corner due to the growing number of zombie companies in the economy.
Not every market watcher agrees with Roubini’s view that rising debt levels and inflation will send the economy spiraling into a deep recession. Ark Invest CEO Cathie Wood tweeted on Tuesday that hawkish economists like Roubini were set to be “blindsided” by inflation receding soon, citing “unwinding” headline inflation, the measure of total inflation within the economy.

Large crowds have gathered in Dublin this afternoon to demonstrate against rising living costs.
Parts of Dublin city centre are expected to come to a standstill during the afternoon with crowds gathering around Parnell Square since lunchtime ahead of a march at 2.30pm calling on the Government to take action against rising inflation.
Attendees are expected to travel along O’Connell Street, across the River Liffey and on to Merrion Square.
There is expected to be considerable traffic disruption in the city centre as the crowd makes its way through the streets.
People Before Profit/Solidarity TD Paul Murphy is among those marching in protest at high living costs.
With thousands gathered at Parnell Square before the start of the protest, he says this is a sign to Government that urgent action is needed.

He said buses travelling from Limerick and Cork have been delayed by an accident on the M7 overnight.

Groups started gathering shortly after 1pm with signs and placards calling on the Government to introduce measures to "freeze inflation, not the nation", enhanced rights for tenants and redress for mica victims.
Hundreds had gathered from about 1pm, with the crowd swelling significantly before thousands of protesters start marching.

I will try and explain my thinking .Tradition dictates the Opposition opposes the Budget .The Government depend on two suspended Greens one FF who went over board and one FG who went overboard to keep them in power ..Joe Mc Hugh left FG over the Wobbly block money .If the Government dont give 100% recource and they cant because of Building inflation Mc Hugh who is from Donegal has to vote AGAINST them not abstain .Marc Mc Sharry represents another Wobbly Block constituency .He will have a personal vote a bit of his FF vote will stay with him but there will be a Wobbly Block Candidate .If Mc Sharry wants to be re elected he will hope to get transfers from the Wobbly Blockers ..If them Two vote against the Budget it will fail .
Now the Politics bit .If a Government fails to pass a Budget or Money Bill they automatically fail .Its not a vote of Confidence its a Failure to have the Confidence of the Dail .This Government are looking to give everybody a bit but if everybody gets something then nobody gets anything as nobody will be satisfied with what they got .Tony Gregory and Jim Kemmy brought down governments over budget issues .

Last year, the oil giant entered an agreement with Simply Blue for a 51% share in its Emerald and Western Star offshore wind projects, which aim to develop up to 2.35gw of wind energy. The agreement was to see both companies co-develop the projects.

Is there enough to keep every TD happy ? Budget will probably pass but Free School busses and Wobbly bricks might be a big issue for rural TDs .Has to we worth a tenner of anybodies money

Ken whats in this budget for anybody aged between 50 and 66 on the average industrial wage ?You dont earn enough to get the lower tax rate .You are not on welfare so no double bonus .Your kids are not in Primary School so Free books or a seat on a bus that dosent exist is not for you .You wont be getting reduced childminding fees .You know the ones that allow women to go back to work so they can pay tax and get a little bit back twords the kennel fees for the child minding .You can get a Doctor only medical card (I got one during covid due to low income .Try get a Doctors appointment now never mind when 400kmore people are registered with non existent GPs .Your tax credit for rent means you have to ask your landlord for his Registered Tenancy Board number or some other proof you are paying rent .Lot of evictions on the way when that becomes obvious .Then if you are on Welfare 12 euro a week extra not 10 not 15 but 12 Must of been some heavy duty debating there to give the extra Two Euro above the 10 or Three Euro below the 15 to pensioners and unemployed .Mortgage interest rates are shooting up no relief for those people .This is one of the most lop sided budgets I can remember .If you live in Douglas or Mount Merrion with Two College going kids and you and your hen have two other kids in Primary School and earn decent wedge your quids in you might even pay your cleaner an extra fiver a week to cover the increase in her cost of smokes ,
After Paggo finishes handing out the Goodies and Young Mick from Cork sings the second verse .A lot of people will look and see that most of this is ......wait for it ............A BOTTLE OF SMOKE .If you are Homeless nothing .On a Hospital Trolly nothing .Still dont know the Wobbly Brick number for people living in condemned cells .If you are between 24 and 35 this budget screams Ryanair or Quantus .Its a sham Budget looks like its giving loads of stuff to loads of people but what did you get ?.Big Dommo got 12 Euro a week or 600 a year more than last year that wouldnt cover the increase in minimum alcohol pricing he now pays extra to enjoy cheap Lidil Cider with Good Company down the flats near the Good Gaffs behind the Church .Put in perspective 600 a year extra to live on but if you have coin you can have that much off a new EV bike or 5000 off a new EV car .

Or even a State-backed loan scheme at 0% interest rate for drivers to update their cars and pay it back over 5 years?

So whats in it for Workers on Average Industrial wage between 50 and 66? NOTHING Your Gaff gets 600 euro off the ESB not you Its paid to your Electricity provider no matter how many people living in the house .
I was happy enough with the budget, free lecky fer a year and no increase in diesel or gargle.
Also got my motor insurance renewal down to 1550 this week, the lowest in a long time and FN throwing free money at me like confetti at a wedding !

Ken we got nothing .Government just made sure Electricity Sellers get well paid .They automatically get your ESB bobo .Same with Diesel or Petrol duty .You might notice once fuel costs went below 2.00 people stopped complaining add the duty back on to the pump price and we are not far below 2.00 even though oil is down $20 a barrel .By reducing the Duty the Government encourage use .So much for Greening the Economy .Your bigger issue is the Rent tax break .Is your Landlord registered for TAX and registered with the RTB .If not you wont get the tax break and he might decide its time to sell up before the tax man commeth .A lot of renters will find their homes up for sale .Even Government Ministers Like Donnolly or Troy hadent registered their rental properties . No incentive for Electricity or Petrol suppliers to reduce costs as Government subsidise their profits and the rent tax rebate is only to flush out non tax paying landlords .The only thing YOU or I got was a free doctor visit card .Your ESB and Pertol money only lasts till March 1st 2023 .

Had a woman in the car this morning telling me she was getting 4 weeks extra on the Dole from the Budget .Until I explained you are getting ONE week extra .You will get a double week that is your normal payment plus one week . .Then at Christmas you will get a Double week that is your Dole plus the Christmas bonus week you always got .What they did yesterday was announce and confirm the Christmas bonus earlier than normal .So in reality you are ONE week better off.

Wobbly Blocks Wobbly Government Majority ?...........FOUR Fianna Fáil TDs have called for the new levy on concrete blocks to fund a mica redress scheme to be revisited or postponed.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe announced a 10pc levy on concrete blocks, pouring concrete and other concrete products in the Budget on Tuesday.
The levy is due to take effect from April 3 next year in order to raise €80m to go towards funding a redress scheme for people whose homes were built with defective blocks.
The levy is likely to be in place for several years given estimates that the scheme could cost the State as much as €4bn by the time remedial works are completed.
Organisations representing builders have estimated that the new levy could add between €1,500 and €3,000 to the cost of a new home.
Limerick TD Willie O'Dea said the issue should be looked at again in the context of the current housing crisis.

Dole went up €12 so if it goes up at the start of Oct, she could get an extra €120-ish in time for Xmas (approx 10 weeks x €12). Plus her 1 new bonus payment of €200-ish. So €300-€350 extra so far! Then add-in her regular Xmas bonus of €200-ish? Getting close to €500-€500 in 'new' and 'bonus' money on top of her weekly dole.
She might also be getting children's allowance and carers allowance (both up €12/week). And fuel allowance. Plus the extra €600 credit for the leccy.
Booze is unchanged and she prob doesn't buy her cigs in the shops.
Free GP card for herself and the kids. No hospital fees anymore and no need to buy primary school books. There's still the school uniform but I bet there's a grant for that.
Rent can't go up and she can't get evicted. Gas/Leccy can't be cut off.

Would it not be fairer to put a .5% sales levy on the sale of Properties .Most properties are worth more than we paid for them .If Bronco Culligan bought a two bed in the old Slaughter House Apartments near Big Dommos Council flats gets his gaff repaired then sells it he takes all the coin while the new gaffs being built in the Old Cigarette Factory on the South Circular will pay for his profits .

Kenneth dosent get Economics if everybody had to work and there was no dole then wages would collapse as people begged for Work .Kenneth did you ever apply for HAP or a medical card .If you are paying maintainance out of youe meger earnings you probably qualify for the HAP .Did you ever go on the Council housing list ?The system works for all if you know how to use it .

So far in life I have always managed to pay my own way.
And with a good VHI plan I hope never to be a burden on the state/taxpayer.

Ken its not about paying your own way .If you qualify based on your contributions you qualify .About 80% of people getting Housing Assistance Payments are in full time employment .Dont know why you are not on the Housing List .Where are you going to live and how are you going to afford it when you stop working .

Environment, Climate and Transport Minister Eamon Ryan will seek to give himself emergency powers to take control of the oil supply in Ireland today.
He is bringing a draft Oil Emergency Contingency Bill 2022 to Government, which — in the event of a national crisis only — he would take charge of oil stocks, systems and provision across the country.
