Third-level students across the country are planning a walkout later this year to highlight the extent of the accommodation crisis.

The president of the Union of Students in Ireland Beth O’Reilly said the lack of accommodation has been a “long-running issue” and students will walk out of lectures on October 13 to show the scale of the problem.
Ha! Nothing highlights the urgency of a situation then a protest 7 weeks in the future!

Here is my thinking Ken on a General election this year .Cynide Tits is going to act on the Protocol .Farmers are going to protest .Students are going to protest Ukranians are going to protest (They have Russian mentality ) Wage strikes everywhere .If FF/FG are in office they get the blame .Homeless ness will be huge issue .if Climate change is real then we are in for a Cold winter with High Gas and Oil prices blackouts and street violence .If This government know how to play politics .They cannot have a Partner that only wants more Diesel taxes and Bike Lanes .Our Hospitals are broken about 4 Billion will be spent on new Childrens hospital but we do not have staff to run it .Dont have houses for people to live in.Our tax system is broken .Now is the time to cut and run .Short term pain for long term gain .Collapse the Government have an election hand over the steaming pile of Shite to SF to deal with .Next Government will be a SF coalition that wont last two years .If FF/FG stay in power for two more years FG will never be in power again FF will some day go into power with SF .The people think they want an election a change of government so give it to them, they wont want what they will get and they dont want what they have .Big Picture Politics or tactical retreat .

What I am banking on is self preservation if two government TDs abandon ship turn Independent to try save their cushy jobs and pensions by getting re elected then the Game is up for this government .Do I think there is a 20% chance of that happening ?

Fine, you have a bet John M.
€200 @ 5/1 an Irish general election in 2022.

We settle up this and the UK prime minister bet together after both results are in.

The stats on Irish winter time general elections are not in your favour John M.
The first in 1918 was held in December, of the 32 after that only 1 was held in October and 2 in November which is kinda understandable that politicians don't like to be out on the campaign trail in wintertime.

Apart from that who wants the gig anyway ?
Liz will kick off with the brexit protocol.
Energy prices gone mad and nothing anybody here can do about it.
The bill fer the Covid clean-up is about due.
Who in their right mind would want to be taking all that on ?

All those late elections were down to the Budget not passing .Government have a Majority of two .If they pay off one Independent with a New School or Hospital then Government TDs will ask why do I support this party and get Fuck all for my electorate .Jim Kemmy brought down a government over VAT on Kids Shoes .If any part of the Budget does not pass the Government falls automatically .Who ratted out Robbie Troy and is there more to come about other TDS ?

TOLD YA ....THE worst is yet to come for electricity and gas customers with “no end in sight” to the forces driving bills sky-high, Energy Minister Eamon Ryan has warned.

Mr Ryan said there was “no miracle cure” and “no way to cushion everyone” from the impact of the war in Ukraine on energy prices.

“We are in an absolute crisis. People are not going to really see it coming until the bills hit in November, December, January and February,” he said.

I think the sh1t hit the fan today.  Electric Ireland, with a million customers, put up their prices by 27% for the leccy and ~40% for gas.   Prices go up in 30 days!

Those million customers are Mr & Mrs Average who just go with the flow and don't change supplier every year or ring around for deals.  And they vote!

Edit: or to put it another way.  Bills went up 30% in Aug and now another 27% on Oct.  I don't think the Aug bills have been sent yet.  Imagine how grim it will be for some people to open their fuel bills in December when the kids are screaming for the latest and greatest from Santa!

Maybe it is time to get a (battery-powered) gun!
