Re the VW Passat guy, you'd think he would have treated himself to something newer/nicer after 20 years?  He's probably changed the sofa and kitchen in his house a couple of time in the last 20 years.  He's probably even gotten himself a new shed in that time as well  ::fds

Older cars are better, newer cars aren't as durable as the older cars.

Twice!  Once for the wife's EV and second for the solar panels!  Probably had to get a bigger shed to store the solar batteries as well.

I'd hazard a guess as to the Passat:

I bought a 2003 Avensis from IWFTSTS, great motor, got upto 390k miles before it went to the farm in Sligo to its forever home.

Cars future reliability are generally dependant on the maintenance of the previous owner.

Sensible man, he has a No-age lifetime license of his WAV and stickered up as a FN Ambassador.

A bit strange that he has No County stickers on his Roofie ??

they're there they're just worn off.
Surprised that it can pass suitability with the county stickers in that condition.

But then again it was the NTA who supplied the not-fit-fer-purpose County stickers.

I was thinking that !
Excellent working stategy by the man with a 00 plate that has a lifetime Taxi licence, a 99 plate would look really silly today. What ever he spends on annual repair, it will defo be less than replacing the cab. Although fer the sake of the Pony I'm surprised he didn't get new County stickers as the worn out ones look Naff !

Area stickers are not part of suitability as far as I remember.

There easy enough to get on if you only have the one, unless your a Doob whom doesent understand 'Back to Front' !

Wait till you try to get them off ??
Mine were in bad condition a few years back and I got new ones, it took a full 30 minutes + of scraping using White spirt and WD 40 to get about 95% of the old front one off, I didn't bother with the back one !

Great vans if ya look after them, I’ll never drive a saloon plate again as the cost to put a saloon car on the road is extortion. Plan is to keep it licensed until it 14.5 years old and replace it with a 9.5 year old van that I can drive until it’s 15yo.

Do you have to buy a <3yo van for a new WAV plate?

Oh I know, I have taken old stickers off a few times.

The area stickers are a great idea though.

The other plate is due to expire next month. Did you get an extension, or is the Da retiring?

131, 3 year extension, off the road April ‘26, he’ll be nearing 71 then, I’d imagine he’s gonna keep going.

@RC, three year car is only needed when bequeathing a saloonplate to the new owner, for a new wav plate it’s under 6 years of newer. I can replace my existing car under my plate with a 9.5 year old wav and drive it until it’s 15th birthday.

Good news. Once the Chrysler keeps going there's no point, financially, in upgrading.
