Title: mytaxi College Green Submission
Post by: Rat Catcher on March 23, 2018, 04:04:10 pm
Email received today:

Hi Stephen,

Over the last few months we’ve received a lot of enquiries from drivers asking us what our stance is on the proposed changes to the College Green area.

Many of you who have been with us since 2015 will remember that we previously submitted a report to the DCC in conjunction with town planners, outlining why the College Green area should remain open for the free flow of taxis.

We believe that the importance of taxis in providing an alternative transport mode must be taken into consideration, and that restricting access to the College Green area will severely impede the efficiency of the local transport infrastructure.

Our submission drew on the anonymous data we have relating to congestion, travel times and distances travelled.

We have now re-submitted our submission to the DCC and will do all we can to ensure that taxi drivers within the industry have their voice heard on this matter.

Thanks,

Chris and the mytaxi Team

They seem to have the support of many of the unions, some of whom sit on TAC so can advise NTA on such matters.

I'm not sure I agree but I don't live up above in Dublin and I rarely work there. DCC ought to decide the best fit, I guess. IMO, the artists impression depicted a beautifully tranquil zone free from traffic congestion and the pollution that comes with it. Hard to imagine why Dubliners wouldn't welcome such an ambiance.

Thats an extract from metaxis excellent infomercial to drivers .How do you become an ambassador .Had one of their beautifully liveried cars pulled up behind me last night and the Ambassador roared move up there ya Cunt you are blocking the way .I pointed out to my customer that he worked for the same App I was picking her up on and apologized on behalf of the brand .I alighted from my vehicle to open the door for my passenger and the Ambassador nearly shit himself as he may of assumed I was going to cave his fucking Turnup head in for shouting at me .I just looked at him and said BOO ..Is anybody getting any Flag jobs yet .

I haven't got any Flag offers yet but I've only had it on for two shifts, Tuesday night and last night and mytaxi didn't leave me alone for long on either.

^ I know you like a good conspiracy theory, erm. D'ya reckon the mytaxi algorithm offers us more work if the application detects a competitors' application running on our device?

I changed the rear near side shock last week got the meter sealed and changed a tyre if I give it a clean it should make Ambassador status .How do I go about getting anointed .I dont /wont work the app on Monday Tuesday/Wednesday as it never ever offers me anything in Clondalkin/Tallaght /Lucan or Ballyfermot on prebook so Im never motivated to leave the sofa .I was wondering if I upgraded from ordinary SCUM driver who covers the dregs to the Elevated position of Ambassador how much better I might do .Do you need to grovel ad forelock tug to become elevated or is it just a simple email or must you drive a Premier vehicle like a wanked out Cripmobile .

Beyond my limited intelligence Rodent All I know is I look for something near me gaff from metaxi that is offering Priority for my first job so I bypass all that bolloxology about covering shit jobs left over by the ambassadors in heavy traffic .Then I pick and choose avoiding anything with a bed on screen and cancelling any hospitality jobs I might accept by accident as I refuse to be held to ransom and pay to pick up drunks the pubs want rid of .

Got priority last night - lasts 'till 23:59 Monday so I can't earn any more priority tonight or tomorrow. There's some work on it when the virtual base controller is virtually feeding you, got around a ton off it between 01:44 and 03:03 (5 jobs) - earning priority status into the bargain - but it ain't cheap, works out at c.€9/hour freight. An ambassador working 40 hours a week is handing over the guts of €400 at that rate.

Turned it off after one non show followed by a cancellation just as I turned up the customer took a street hail before I went arrived .App froze I couldne go back to change an incorrect fare and had to enter 1 euro fare an another occasion to clear screen .App seems to be working a lot better lately .

Did you change the coil spring and strut (top mount) bearing? Always a good idea on the MKII Octy when changing a shock. The springs don't outlast the shocks by long, they tend to break about an inch and a quarter from the top and, interestingly, one side breaking encourages the other side to follow so you don't notice any difference in handling, the car just sits a few cms lower. The strut bearings can break up after a shock fails.

Got a Flag job tonight (Sat)... fortunately I forgot to put myself busy while on a mytaxi fare and it came through as I was close enough to the destination to accept.

There should be an extended priority (even fer 12 hours) if you accept an urgent pre-book while already on priority.

I reckon it's like a Betfair exchange job all over again, the First One in got all the honey
and the likes of Betdaq, Matchbook, Etc. have only the scraps left to pick up.

Betfair will never fail, neither will MyTaxi, there market share is too strong.

Except Betfair provides a far more complex platform at less than half the price charged by mytaxi.

MyTaxi has the Taxi market sewn up, the same way as Betfair has the Gambling market sewn up.
The only One that can Fook it up fer them, is themselves.

Flag ought to make inroads. Many drivers dislike a lot of mytaxi policies such as priority job allocation, hospitality fees, etc. Even gruntled mytaxi drivers would obviously prefer to pay less commission.

and who allowed that to be the case Belker ? it was the drivers . again another case of drivers giving up their right to work independantly of radios, or apps. they would rather give over the right to people who do not need to have a foothold into our industry

Think you are wrong and also not right and misguided Rodent .FLAG learned nothing from Whistle .A nerd in his Mas box room can write an app but selling it is a different kettle of makrel altogeather .Ill point out where both Whistle and FLAG went wrong and why they both will fail to make inroads .Timing both launched at times when there was big demand .Whistle just before X mas and Flag in the Runup to Patricks Day .Both times when demand is high .Their thinking being this was a good time to launch to try profit from that demand in theory but in practice drivers did not need to do app work as there was plenty of commission free work available but the big problem for both app providers was they did not have enough cars to cover minimum demand .They labour under the missaprehention that just because somebody downloaded the app that they will use that app .Running two or three live taxi apps eats up your battery and can overheat your phone so drivers simply turn off any app that does not provide regular work .The best marketing ploy for FLAG would of been to wait to launch until all the colleges returned  and go big in the colleges but have the drivers on side aware of the big switch on and they might of given the app a real go .Whistle is dead and buried due to its Scytsofrenic launch it was and it wasent a driver owned app it did and it did not charge 50c or a euro .Most drivers who download any new app will run it for a day or two and make their decision about running it after that .Run Metaxi for two shifts get around 20 jobs run UBER probably gey 4 jobs run Whistle get no offers run Flag get no offers turn two apps off .probably even forget to turn on more than one app .What they need is impact marketing but they must have the drivers available to carry the passengers and the passengers available for the driver only Metaxi can meet that requirement .

As I posted here in another tread and in reply to another app developer .A dog with a hammer in his arse could build an app but it takes brains and intellect to sell the concept .Dollymount has the right idea why would you want to give somebody else a foothold in your business .I dont think FLAG be become a relevent player in the E hail business .Metaxi will respond to FLAG if they become relevent just like the Spider and the Fly .Metaxi have a plan and their  plan is to own your business .Drivers gave them access to their work and that work is now  defacto Metaxi work and in time most of that work will be distributed to Hacls ,Limos and Ambassador drivers .Casual traders who refuse to cover job offers will be shunned .

As all the apps use the same resources, running them simultaneously shouldn't cause significant battery drain. The biggest drain on your battery is actually the screen so if you wish to conserve battery power switch the screen off when you don't need to see it or minimise the brightness control at night. Apps do, however, constantly communicate with servers using mobile internet. Even with 4G they will slow each other down to some extent which can impact on job offers received.
