I'm posting these vids up to counterbalance all the threads talking about making loadsa money and Brexit.Only a few years ago.If ya look carefully ya might even see me scratching me bollix. This might show the new lads how shit it was to be a driver back then.

It can't be as shit as being on the dole and only eligible for 40 quid a week, even though your wife earns below the average wage.
It does beg the question though, why the fuck aren't you out there filling your boots,in preparation for the next recession if you know how bad it was?
-
I'm relatively comfortable and probably was before I drove a taxi.If I decide to stay in the industry I'll need to upgrade the car in the next few years.Other than that I've no need to stress too much.
Like others I just get what I need then feck off.The only times I work extra hours or start early is when my tax bill and insurance is due. When you've gotten used to living on shit money there's no appetite for more hours.
Just to be clear I'm making a bit more but it's all going towards the increased insurance costs and the extra expense of complying with the ten year rule.So no significant gains except less hours.
-
Always amazes me that lads dont take all the hours they work into consideration when working out how much they earn .60 hours in a taxi is equalto two weeks work in a Paye job .Then include you get paid for bank holidays and holidays ,a lot of lads dont realize we are only on minimum wage with no security after deductions and costs .Im in the same boat as Merc just get what I need out of it .When I started this game an old timer told me when you stary you will love it money in your pocket every day unlike working a job where you only get paid on friday but that will wear off and you will learn to hate it .He was right .
-
I fukin love it.....can't sit in me joe long enough, entertaining the pax with me stories, might even throw in a few inward or outward paradiddles on the oul steering wheel for good measure!!
-
Taxi driving is ok when the economy is good, a poxy job in a recession. Don't know how I survived the last downturn. Must be on account of me amazingness.
-

Must watch Clem. I thought the Aswad drummer was out of place in an otherwise excellent episode. I`ve a couple of mates ,bothers, who were taught by their old man who drummed with showbands and jazz players. 2 brilliant drummers, always serve the song.
-
My drum tutor was(the late) Jon Murray...used to own the Dublin Drum Centre on the corner of Grantham St and Camden...he was a drummer with the Big Bands back in the day...if i was half the drummer he was...i'd be a happy chap.
-
Ah, " a guy who hangs around with musicians".
Just kidding, great respect for drummers, would like to have a go some day, can't beat a tune with good sticks.

In the Clem Burke doc.....he said at one stage...."let's clear that up!!"...
I'm sure if you said that to Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters... ex Nirvana drummer...he might say the same.

The 2 lads are Eddie & Philip Gaynor Hal, Drimnagh lads. Their dad would have known Jon too.

I thought red sky at night. Sailers delight?
An a big fukin storm tomorrow.....
-
I continued to go to Jon privately after the shop went,he lived in Fortfield Tce in Rathmines,i was playing in bands at that stage but i enjoyed playing the jazz that he was into and it was something different than playing rock/pop,
The chap i bought my Premier drums off went to Johnny Wadham,he played in a band called Montage at the time.
I thought it was a red sky at night...farmers delight
Red sky in the morning...sailors warning?
-
Jaysus lads :
Red sky at night , shepherds delight,
Red sky at morning, sailor`s warning.
-
The nearest I ever got to drums was, when we were kids,we used to wait outside the various dance halls to carry in the gear for all the different showbands.they used to pay us with black and white photos of the band. An odd time,if you were really lucky, you might get a colour picture

I did bubba...always annoyed/amazed me..particularly back in the 80's how many drummers in bands never stopped fukin doin 16th note drum rolls around the kit!!...christ on a bike!!
Always loved playing along to Ringo Starr and Charlie Watts, nothing flamboyant but always tasty and always sat well in their songs....i do like Larry Mullens style,i think he'd admit to being not the best technically gifted drummer but his offbeats on snare and toms are good to listen to and fit well with what U2 do.
-
Johnny Wadham lived out my way, drank in my local until he got sick and left us.
-
I uses to know Noel Bridgeman, many many years ago, was he any good,I was never into pop music so I dont know ,but I heard he was good
-
Saw him in JJ's a couple of times....blues...which i wouldn't be into but have no problem listening to....bubba would have more info there....cos he's a bleedin oul fella!!
-
Im an auld fella meself, but I think Noel used to play with a band called skidrow. I may well be wrong about that, because at that time all I was listening to was Luke Kelly etc etc
-

Indeed...Skid Row.....Brush Shiels,Phil Lynott and quite a few other esteemed musicians including Noel....he played with The Waterboys aswell at one stage, cos i saw them in the Olympia circa 89.

Used to think Ginger Baker was the dogs bollox on this track.. Watched a few docus on him over the years and hes a bit of a bollox ..
-
Some musicians are up their own holes alright,
I remember playing one night upstairs in Nealons on Capel St supporting Don Baker, the drummer(worked for an advertising agency on Wellington Rd) up his own hole,i used my own snare and he says try not to hit the tom toms too many times...or the cymbals!....shudda just brought me tambourine!!
-
Yeah, play quietly will ya.. I had a chap in the car a few weeks ago who used to be a drummer for Don Baker. Would't say it was the same fella, this fella was alright. Tall wiry fella, from Ballybrack?
-

You're describing him well there Al,don't know where he was from..but tall and wirey sounds about right.
-
He did mention something about working in sales funnily enough, not advertising though. This fella is a Dub, about 60 odd now I'd say, was with Baker for a year or 2.
-
Never thought much of ginger Baker.... An awful cunt up his own hole......
Buddy rich... Seen him in the concert hall twice.... Another phyco.....
...Joe morello was better than him in my book.... The spaces are just important than the note..
Blind as a bat an a lovely bloke by all accounts....

It was about 86/87, the world of advertising seemed to be full of snobs and wankers, this guy was a posh fecker..that i do remember, yer man you're describing doesn't sound like him other than the tall and wirey.
-
Nah, this fella wasn't posh. Had a southside pronunciation about him alright but not posh.

Nothing worse than paying to see a self indulgent wanker make love to himself onstage. I saw Van the man a few years ago and he was so up his own hole that I'd wager he wanks himself looking at a recording of himself looking at a recording of himself pulling his own plum to a picture of himself.. Cunt didn't care if you were there or not, never again.
-
I'd say he's told himself lately that he loves him!!
-
Laffin..
Yeah, a horrible cunt.. That was deffo a ditty to self but on the other hand a great songwriter and artist.
A lot of Irish artists have covered his work. The Waterboys and Hansard are fans apparently. Its a pity hes such a cunt.
-
Paul Brady...another one that i took a disliking to..up his own swiss!!
-

Him and Dylan have an out cunt each other buzz goin on. Both of them should be shoved up a donkey`s arse and the donkey shot. Dylan won "Cunt of the Century " award when he was a no show for the Nobel award. The chair of the committee that awarded it won the runner up award.

He was a member.
-
Yeah, it was around the time he died when the docu surfaced. I was never into Campbell apart from the shit everyone else knew such as Wichita Lineman, Rhinestone Cowboy and my favourite 'Ruby'.. I just didn't realize how brilliant he was until the wrecking crew stuff came out.. Another unsung hero from that era and I'm not quite sure if he was wrecking crew material was Harry Nillson.. Very good..

Seems to be no doubt that Bruce is 100% nice guy, but was prone to depression. Fixed Van's tv once, and did find him very unpleasant. Have loved Bob's music for the last 50 odd years, and yes one rarely hears much nice about him personally, there is speculation that he might be in the Asberger spectrum. With a lot of artistic people I suppose temperament can be dodgy. Bob was an excellent dad by all accounts, took a lot of time out to raise his kids. Below a slightly warmer side to his personality is evident.

Maybe so, but that doesn`t account for the Nobel diss or his many "couldn`t give a fuck if you paid $500 for a ticket, I`m not arsed to make an effort" gigs. He`s written a few good tunes as well as some shite. I reckon Dylan is the "musical" version of Ulysses , ya struggle through both and you`re either a convert or a wtf did I waste that time on type of guy.

He presently marching to the beat of a different drum!

Bruce shot the shit with us on the Gresh in the 80`s before the Born In The USA gig in RDS. Walked over from the Gresham. His limo was a Transit van/minibus. Oddly enough, Bowie used a similar van when he was here with Tin Machine in Barrow Street.
-
Won a Dylan CD of previoulsy unreleased material on Tom Dunne last night, brightened up an otherwise shite night with me MyT acting up anall.
-
Nice one. The highlight of my night was checking out 64 with 11 (aiming for T16), T13 (aiming for single), D7 (only one on target), closely followed by checking out 48 with D8 (aiming for single 16), D16 - just to remind myself why I don't bring my darts to the pub very often!
-
Played a few Tuesday night league games a long, long, time ago. In casual darts, after 3 pints, my concentration just isn't there any more.
Used to have great Sunday morning Shanghai competitions in our old family pub back in the 60's, as well as turkey competitions on the run up to Christmas. Simpler times before it all went wrong.
-
Follow on/ 3 lives you`re out wasn`t bad either. I used to fling 5 ring long feathered brass arrows. 36gm IIRC.
