Title: Tipping Contest
Post by: john m on March 11, 2019, 01:42:00 pm
Day one : Ballyward in the last @3/1 Mullins only entry in the race has a good record in it .

Whats the rules... highest level stakes profit / lowest level stakes loss wins?
Title: Re: Tipping Contest
Post by: john m on March 11, 2019, 01:59:01 pm
betting to a tenner stake you choose SP or Board Price .Dont forget Powers offering stake back as a freebie if your pony finishes in the first 4 to a tenner stake .
Title: Re: Tipping Contest
Post by: Rat Catcher on March 11, 2019, 02:10:24 pm
No chance of PP taking a tenner... for competition purposes there should be no specials. Keep it simple - how about a mythical €10 win or €5 each way per selection at SP or early/board price, as many selections as you like, no multiples... well, maybe a placepote?

Ok does the horse have to be running at cheltenham ?

You wont believe this Rodent .The biggest betting event on earth and Paddy has cut the price on Ballyward from 3/1 to 5/2 after a small bet .

I do believe it, erm. It's all very well giving stakes back when they only accept bets from dedicated losers!

Yes, horse has to be running at Cheltenham, Tues - Fri inclusive.
As many mythical €10 singles or €5 each way bets as you want - no multiples.
Early/board prices must be from http://oddschecker.com (http://oddschecker.com) and must state bookmaker and be correct at time of posting - No Exchange prices.
One Placepote per day per poster to the value of a mythical €50 - the €50 will be divided by the number of lines to the nearest cent to calculate unit stake.
All bets settled under Rules Of Racing - no double result, no BOG, no bookmaker bonuses/offers of any kind.
Selections to be posted at least 15 mins before the scheduled off time.

Will that do?

Nice tipping Rodent .I only had one bet Josies orders E/w no value in Altiors race 4/11 fav 4/1 Min and no better than 20/1 available on the rest of the field .Matt The Mouth Chapman tipped up the winner of the Coral on the morning line @40/1 .Iwas going to lay tiger @1/1 but there was no takers .

My Loss so far is actually 18.86.  I miscalculated the singles on Tuesday, 1 winner @ 5/1 out of 7 selections gives a loss of 10.00 not 20.00 as posted above.

Thursday

13:30 Real Steel
14:10 First Assignment
14:50 Footpad
15:30 Paisley Park

Close !
108.00 stake, return 34.32 to .10c stake = 73.68 loss on the 108. stake.
On a Fifty euro stake the 73.68 loss multiplied by Fifty and divided by 108 = 34.11 loss.

And add on the 70 notes lost on Tuesday and I'm down 104.11.

Well with 4 days of racing and 7 races a day, if I was to bet on all the races I’d have put a tender on each race so I’m up €280. Ken still wins.
Title: Re: Tipping Contest
Post by: Rat Catcher on March 16, 2019, 04:56:10 pm
If you just done a tenner a race you woulda been up €19.89 (at SP, more if you took the guaranteed prices) with very little outlay if you followed my selections. As it happens you broke even by not backing anything. Ken's win is more down to manipulation of the mathematical flaws in the competition rules. In the real world the minimum unit stake on a placepot is 10p so 37,800 lines is beyond the reach of most punters.

^ not sure how you would have done following LLs tips... if he (or someone else) doesn't add it up in the meantime I'll do it tomorrow or Monday. Not the first time he's come good at Cheltenham though... for me, as a punter, Cheltenham was always a losing affair until a few years back when I followed LLs selections and made a few quid. If memory serves, MMW has had a good year or two as well but he didn't participate in our competition this year.

I’d look at what the experts were saying and probably back the 2nd most common horse and do it each way so I probably would have won something. But would still be down money.

The Erm must have lost the house, haven’t heard from him

No, not worth adding up. I can't match 3 ton plus winnings but my bets were all 5ers except for the Pasley Park one which I won almost 300 on.....all told, in the real world, I was up less than 120 Euro...end of story. The virtual one here is irrelevant, in reality. You've some memory Rats,,,,,,,,,,,,,Carlito Brigante, c/o Mick Ryanair.............his other jockey threw himself off at the 3rd last, I think.........won at 22/1........Think Mouse Morris trained another that yr too...can't recall its name.........that tip came from a fellow who was a chiropractor in Dublin I was attending........he turned to drink I heard.

1/30. 3, 4, 5, 9, 12.
2/10. 2, 5, 7, 19, 21.
2/50. 1, 3, 4, 6, 12, 13, 16.
3/30. 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 13.
4/10. 4, 6, 11, 15, 20, 24.
4/50. 3, 5, 8, 14, 18, 19.
5x5x7x6x6x6 = 37,800 lines @ .001323 cent per line is 50.00 stake.

32 winning lines @ .001323 = .042336 cent worth of the 11,701.20 placepot = 495.38 return.

....... Ken's win is more down to manipulation of the mathematical flaws in the competition rules. In the real world the minimum unit stake on a placepot is 10p so 37,800 lines is beyond the reach of most punters.
Your right Stephen I did manipulate the forum rules a tad, unwittingly at first, but when I saw the stake flaw in the rules, I did exaggerate it to the hilt.  oops

Still my last day bet shows the true value of the placepot if you are willing to invest big money. If I had done that bet fer the minimum Tote requirement of .10c per line then the stake would have been 3780. Euro and the return would have been 36,120.98 !

Had a good first 3 days and blew nearly it all on the last day, main bets on the Friday were Sir Erek (broke leg) and Kemboy (fell at the first).

It's over, as The Big O declared........took her to the Dubs and Tyrone match only for Tyrone to put manners on Dublin.....the road to hell is paved with good intentions....she wants to go to Breffni Park next weekend to see them play Cavan...

If we applied the rules strictly as written your return would have been zero as your unit stake to the nearest 1c would be 0c. However, it's only a bit of fun and I could get what you were demonstrating. I think we'll go back to a starting bank for future competitions, probably with a 10c min unit stake on placepots?

I've never seen so many runners on gold cup day before... nearly every race had 20+ declared so I guess it was a fair assumption that the placepot dividend would be substantial but what if every favourite placed and the dividend was a couple of ton? Big investment = big risk.

Agreed, but I would love to play fer 3 or 4K per day but I'm not willing to possibly (but unlikely) lose up to 15K on the week.
Also agreed Tote placepot forum rules should be in line with actual rules and have the same minimum unit stake.

But I will pick out a few bumper big stake placepots next year (outside of the forum competition) just fer a birra fun.
