Oh... I got the new TTI form by electronic mail from NSAI on Tuesday evening so M24 were obviously quite efficient with the paperwork too.
Welcome to the 'Golden Eight' era !   lol

Glad to see that nasty flu bug didn't finish ya off !

€550 total. It was the cheapest option for a mirror meter and printer. Interestingly they wanted the same price for a dashboard Microtax 6 which wouldn't have required a new printer despite the same being priced @ €250 on their website so one would suspect they're phasing out Hale altogether.

The gentleman explained that I don't need my switch anymore and returned it uninstalled - but he wouldn't give me the old meter back, apparently you have to pay "full price" (whatever that is) if you want it. The new printer is quite a tight squeeze in the pocket where it's fitted and it rests on it's side when the pocket is closed so the roll tends to uninstall itself when the cover's left open in that position which I guess will make it a bit fiddly when a receipt is required but I worked on Wednesday evening - the quietest shift of the year to date for me - roll on January!) without printing any receipts so happy enough with that. If it becomes an issue with my OCD it looks easy enough to relocate the printer to the dashboard, probably on a bit of Velcro or some such, I guess.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

It took me a while to cop what the Golden 8 is, Ken. I actually thought it was an American football thing - you first mentioned it in reply to a post about an NFL (I think) game I was attending!

Anywaysanall, the Hale was programmed to the new rate so would have worked fine during the Golden 8 hours - until it committed suicide at 00:00 on New Year's Day - if I'd worked any of them. Alas I didn't... I did intend to last Saturday night but in a throwback to the good old days when night work and Irish social lives centered around public houses it went dead at about 22:00 so I ended up on a high stool before midnight. I'm away this weekend so maybe I'll try again next weekend... fuck knows I need the money... with all I'm handing out I'll struggle to show any kind of profit for December. Roll on January!

I didn't get offered my old Hale meter back either, but I didn't ask fer it either, as I didn't want the almost useless meter.

My meter installer guy told me that the Alberen printer must sit on a flat surface or it may not work properly ??

Mine sits on the dashboard on top of some squiggy foam cut-out thing.
Almost 3 weeks in now and to be fair it hasen't moved a jot.

In about Three weeks of night time work I have printed just 2 or 3 receipts from well over a hundred jobs.

My printer is in the glove compartment, even though it's slanted it works fine.

Mine too sb.  It just gets chucked in there and works when I need it.

So what was the story with printers now not needing to print a receipt apart from when requested..which I was asked to do earlier today..we're installers told to do so with the new programme....does anyone know?

I think we're legally obliged to print a receipt every single time but... some of the newer printers have a 'design flaw'  :P that if you leave the lid slightly open, it doesn't print.  If someone does need a paper receipt, just close the lid and press reprint.  Most people get their receipt nowadays via the apps.

That's about it. Watty covered it very well.
The actual NTA rule is that you must print and offer a receipt on every fare.

Are you supposed to lock them in the car until the fucking thing has printed?

That wire looks terribly untidy, Ken. I wouldn't be able to live with that but I'm sure I'll be able to do a neater job if required. I might do a few hours this evening and see how I get on but I'll really need someone to request a receipt to test it in real word conditions, that could be years away!

P.S. The foam mat looks tidy enough... certainly preferable to Velcro... and would obviously be easy to square up symmetrically.
