A MEMBER of An Garda Siochana was reportedly attacked by six men after representing the force at the New York St Patrick's Day parade.

It's claimed the serving garda tried to defend a female officer who was being "hassled" while trying to get into a taxi in the city on March 16.

The garda was one of 120 members of An Garda Siochana marching in the New York City parade on March 16 alongside Commissioner Drew Harris and Minister for Justice Charlie Flanagan.

According to The Irish Daily Star, the officer went to help a female colleague "who found herself in difficulty" at the end of the evening, it's reported.

It's claimed the garda confronted two men who were hassling the female officer as she attempted to get a cab.

A source told the paper: "He managed to fend the two of them off but then six other men appeared and gave him a terrible doing.

"There were no other [Garda] members around to help him so he was on his own."

Gardai believe all the attackers were from Ireland and had been "causing trouble" in the city centre pub all night after watching boxer Paddy Barnes' defeat to Oscar Mojica, it's reported.

The officer is now recovering from the brutal battering in which he sustained cuts and bruises and was reportedly travelling home to Ireland last night.

The Irish Sun has contacted the NYPD - who are believed to be investigating the incident - for comment.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

More likely Bored Faultya - the yanks expect the paddies to get pissed and fight hence the generality of the term "fighting Irish" in them parts.
