It's hard to argue against autonomous taxis from a security perspective... particularly in Ireland where there are thousands of convicted criminals and thousands more whose criminal records cannot be ascertained driving taxis. However, the technology needs to evolve to a point where autonomous cars result in fewer road deaths than cars driven by people before they can be deployed to any significant extent.

Would love to see 100 autonomous taxis negotiating the Bermudaa Triangle of Harcourt St at 3.30 am Sunday morning, with "clients" trying to pay with credit cards, and taxis "decommissioning"
 themselves due to soilage.

I'd imagine they'll all be paid by EFT if/when they materialise. mytaxi already encourages it's clients to go cashless and Uber is 100% cashless.
