German taxi drivers protest against liberalisation (Uber)

German taxi drivers protest against liberalization plan

Quote
BERLIN (AP) — Taxi drivers have snarled traffic in Berlin and other German cities in a slow-driving protest against government plans to liberalize the market.

Taxis in Berlin converged on the capital’s famous Brandenburg Gate, filling up the wide boulevard that leads west from the monument. Wednesday’s protests also disrupted traffic into the city’s Tegel airport, which is only reachable by road.

The transport ministry plans to ease conditions for rivals such as Uber, and groups representing taxi drivers say that would create unfair competition.

Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer sought to reassure protesters in Berlin, saying that “no one wants unregulated, unjust and unfair conditions in passenger transport like they have in other countries.”

Same in Poland...

Poland's taxi drivers hold up traffic over ride-hailing law

Quote
WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Hundreds of taxi drivers drove at a crawl and walked in Poland’s capital to protest a new law allowing and regulating ride-hailing services like Uber.

The protesters who held up Warsaw traffic on Monday said the law adopted by the government last week will put cabbies out of work by subjecting them to unfair competition from people who don’t drive professionally.

They walked to the U.S. Embassy to send a message about California-based Uber and continued on to the Enterprise and Technology Ministry.

Infrastructure Minister Andrzej Adamczyk said the law will require ride-hailing services to pay taxes and to follow the same rules as cab companies.

The taxi drivers say they might hold more protests.

Uber is well established in Germany. I used it in Frankfurt myself a good few years ago.

Is Uber in Germany - yes and no.  Uber has to use licenced taxi drivers, according to the article below.

Uber’s Very Bumpy Road in Germany (Sept 2018)

Quote
Is the Uber ride-hailing service available in Germany? The German answer to that question is jein – yes and no. Although Uber is completely banned in several European countries, it’s not entirely missing in action in Germany. Uber currently operates in only four German cities: Berlin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, and Munich.
Quote
If you want to drive for Uber in Germany, you need to have a professional chauffeur’s license (Personenbeförderungsschein), not just a normal German driving license (Führerschein).

Quote
In December 2017 the European Court of Justice ruled that Uber was a transport company, subject to local transport regulation in European Union member states, not an information service.

Quote
In Germany and the EU in general, this means that Uber can operate only with certified taxi drivers and vehicles. Uber in Germany offers only its UberBlack limo service (“the original Uber”) and UberX/UberTaxi taxi service. Facing a total loss of its license, Uber agreed to the same restrictions in Barcelona and London. Under Khosrowshahi, Uber continues to operate in Germany and the EU only as a taxi service. The US-style UberPop freelance ride service can’t be found anywhere in the EU.

can you imagine the filth you would have driving for uber here if allowed. all those scum bags you see driving around in civics with their hoods up, and wasters who never did a days work in their lives. lads driving only 2 years, lads who you cant believe have got through the vetting process, stoners, drugies and alcos. sexual predators.

mental cases who would flip over anything and probably beat up their customers. it would be an absolute $hitshow.

I know drivers who have been to prison for relatively serious stuff when they were younger.Just grew up in the wrong area and made stupid mistakes. Now they're driving mini wheelies making a living getting on with their lives

.I suppose if they were too strict on vetting there would be nobody wanting to drive the drunks home. What other job do ya have to be a driver and a bouncer? As long as ya haven't been convicted of murder or rape in Ireland yer good to join the other drivers that haven't been caught yet....in Ireland.

https://www.irishexaminer.com/breakingnews/ireland/minister-criticises-refusal-to-grant-extra-licenses-for-rural-taxis-916092.html

Junior Health Minister Jim Daly has made a complaint about the National Transport Authority (NTA) and its rules on the new rural taxi services to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC).

In a letter to the consumer watchdog, obtained by the Irish Examiner, Mr Daly criticised the NTA’s refusal to grant extra licences for his proposed service

In other countries, an Uber app allows drivers to use their private cars to carry paying passengers.

But, despite sending his plans to the NTA for rural drivers here to do the same thing, Mr Daly has seen his project stalled.

 rofl rofl rofl

Hard luck Jim.

even if when you do your porridge for murder and rape you can go to the high court and say I've served my time I'm reformed I've paid my debt etc. etc. larry murphy would get a license no hassle. you'd even have the reps speaking up for him I'd say. and he'd be given dispensation to not carry a fire extinguisher and safety kit because he would'nt be able to fit a young wun in the boot properly the cunt.

It is here. However, it only uses licensed taxis to cover UberTaxi fares. It could use clapped out shiteboixes masquerading as limousines like mytaxi but it doesn't. BTW, mytaxi aspires to be the Uber of Europe.
