Alan Kelly, I guess.
I think you were kinda on your own with that one Stephen, if memory serves everyone else on the forum hated him.
In hindsight it was AK who got the ball rolling toward getting us somewhat close to legitimate and somewhere close to having a half decent respectable fleet of cars.

Well your right Kelly introduced the door stickers with the intention of hopefully getting rid of double jobbers.I think he was sympathetic towards full timers, and he thought this was the way to go.unfortunately it didnt work double jobbers didnt give a fukk about the stickers, and they still donthave.he was the man who also said he wanted us all aligned

I wouldn't agree that the door stickers and the increased personal PSV licence cost (13 Euro up to 250 Euro) did not weed out a lot of part-timers, quite a lot of double-jobbing drivers who had 9 to 5's mid week and worked the Joe at weekends packed it in when the door stickers were introduced, the increased PSV and insurance was the final nail in the coffin fer a lot of them.

My mate Korky was the only fella I knew that was totally in favour of the 10 year rule when it was first introduced, over the years I have come around to his way of thinking as I see today's fleet of Taxies in Cork in much better shape than they were 10 years ago.

I'm not sold on the ten-year rule as it just means lazy drivers like me are forced to work extra hours to pay for newer motors. But if you were already doing lots of hours you won't see any difference.

At 2k(conservative estimate)a year for a newer motor translates to an extra month every day driver is on the road after expenses to keep a newer jammer. It's all great now while it's busy but it might not always be like this.In fact it won't.

Ten years back when I started out the fleet was in a horrendous condition, I know because I drove a lot of them as Rentals, how they passed NCT was a mystery, SGS was in it's infancy and reseal was unheard of. Fleet insurance fer anyone at all was the norm.
Today's fleet is a lot better, top line cars under 10 years old and the exemption 15 year rule cars subject to 6 monthly NCT and suitability.

Agree Ken, I'm subject to the 6 month confession, pain in the arse but as usual its "shit or get off the pot", 07 Avensis still going/in good nic,  will run it until it stops or 2022.

I'm just a year ahead of ya STC's with me 08 Avensis, but I too plan to trade up in 2022.2
My Joe is worth Scrap today and in 2022 it will still be worth Scrap so I see no need to be bringing a car loan upon myself.

My Joe too is in good nick, I keep it clean and always well serviced, NCT passed, Reseal and Suitability next week, Fingers Crossed.

I don't know what you mean by bangers. If a cat passed the NCT it was road worthy.Older cars have more dents and scratches.More stringent suitability could have kept the fleet looking fresh.Plenty if old limos and buses going around twenty years old.

One thing I've learned about taxi drivers is most know sweet fuk all about cars. Mechanically the 2019 Corolla isn't much different than the 2004 Prius but yis all think yer living in the fukking future with a 27k loan to pay off.Bizzare stuff.

I'm acting the cunt.......nothing to understand........lots of practice I've had at it. Pity the Prius is a bit tight for taller lads. I'd love to have one but my legs are too long.

I'll happily admit to care little and know little about many things but as far as me job goes I try to keep informed as much as possible.

You said the fleet was in horrendous condition.I'm not in the habit of using flowery language when a banger would fit in nicely.I misspelt car but went to the shop and didn't bother correcting it.But you knew that already.I don't always correct me own posts.
