It's not really a surprise.Ebbs is doing something similar.And I'm sure I recall someone saying Vinny had some sort of relationship with the training schools off Mount Street.What do yis expect when all the taxi companies are run by ex taxi drivers, many of the renters are lads who used to drive too and couldn't hack it.Just lube up and take what's coming.

The down side will be the up side.Halloween and everything could change overnight .Brexit will hit .Prices will shoot up ,less disposable cash so less wages for us .Higher costs and less return will force a lot of renters to hand back the keys and lads wont pony up 12% commission out of less .

I think you have a short memory.Back during the bad years there were lots of rejects driving rentals from other industries.Tradesmen, labourers ,truck drivers, coach drivers.Plenty of lads like me who saw the opportunity to work as much as you needed to pay the bills.

Only thing in our favour is the taxi test.It's probably been made too easy but it will still need some study to pass.Unlike the previous Garda exam.If that gets made any easier you'll see a big increase in new drivers.At the moment it's still only a trickle.

Merc I dont think people really understand the Effect of a no deal Brexit .It will make 2008 look like a late payment .I did back of the Envelope stuff 40,000 jobs gone most of them low paid restaurant factory jobs .You can expect taxi work to seriously contract 20 to 30% .It simply wont be viable to rent cover costs and 12% commission .And this wont just last a few years .The BIG issue nobody in Irish Politics has mentioned .The EU works on Qualified Majority voting so the 50 odd seats that Britain have in the European Parliament willbe distributed among the other 27 France and Germany get most of them so it is easier for themto get qualified majority .They will use this bring in a Universal Corporate tax this will have a big impact on FDIs so more long term job losses .The future for this industry is about half the fleet we have now .First men out will be the ones with the largest overheads .Long term Metaxi might own a fleet paying drivers a % of earnings in return for driving their vehicles .Independent taxi drivers will die out just like owner trainers in the horseracing business forced out by the big owners like O Briens and Mullins set ups .We saw it with the bookies industry as well .All the little one or two shop guys are gone replaced by Powers ,Ladbrokes and boyles .Its just the evolution of business .

I cannot believe not what I'm reading. They are actually asking YOU to go out and recruit  drivers to compete against yourselves, and. The unbelievable thing is, there are actually drivers out there who will do it

If we just forget Brexit and assume there will be a downturn all them coach drivers and other lads I mentioned will be making a beeline into the taxi industry.We should be trying to get the SPSV pass rate back to 80% to cover our holes.That and the ten/fifteen year rule is the only thing keeping us from earning a tenner an hour again.Although last week I had a few hours like that so it could still just turn to shit.

Merc a tenner an hour will be the norm .Now take your costs out of that .The taxi industry is not viable this time round a 5 or 6 thousand new plates since the shit collided last time .Lads will stay on the dole this time to keep medical cards HAP other welfare payments .As I said before Brexit will knock us back to the 70s hand me down clothes and visiting your granny to get fed.

I'm gonna save for another motor and hopefully 18 months from now things will be a bit clearer.I don't wanna be spending anything on this job unless the NTA are gonna keep the other useless fuckers our of the industry.Too many hours to break even if/when things turn to shit.I'll buy a van and go on the dole.

Can drivers not see the writing on the wall ?  Because there is a desire by drivers who are hell bent on giving control of your industry over to dispatchers, the liklehood is that the government will make this a compulsory requirement for all future, and existing deivers now let's say 2 years from now, we hit a recession and there is a very limited amount of work for drivers. At this stage , you have to remain aligned to Kearns, Kelly or Ebbs because that is the condition on which you agreed now bearing in mind there is barely enough work to sustain a few hundred drivers, YOU ARE STILL CONNITED TO PAYING THESE CUTE HOORS their extortionate weekly doury. you will have nobody to blame when your on your knees because YOU GAVE CONTROL TO ABSOLUTE SCUMBAGS. who have rode you, and continue to do so. I can not believe drivers have not got the vision to see the harm they are doing to their own industry by giving up a right to operate independently, in favour of compulsory alignment . The same applys to the app you might think things are great now, but I gaurentee you you will regret the day you gave up control of your industry. Mark my words I urge you to drop dispatchers now before it's to late.
