The genie is out of the bottle.  Apps are here to stay.  People have gotten too used to pressing a button and a taxi turning up outside.

E.g.  Got 2 young fellas today (probably street drug dealers) get a FN from their house to the off-licence AND back with their drink.  The off-licence did home-delivery.  But no.  They paid me e11 to drive them 2 streets and back. e7 before I moved an inch.

E.g.  Got 4 people get a FN from (let's say) Dominic St to The Chancery pub - e11.  Meter was e9 before I moved.  Told them there was no early house on a Sunday but no.  It was on 'the card' so, in their heads, they didn't really spend any money.

We have to adapt to the times.  More and more people don't carry cash - they pay with their phones or their watches! 
Standing on the side of the street with your hand out is getting less and less.

Got stopped by hotel staff driving by a City hotel - do you take cards?  I do! (sumup)  Will you take these 2 Americans to the airport?  Yes, I will

Watty I hear ya, but I don't agree with ya. In the same way as DRIVERS provide the facility of offering card payment, and app service , DRIVERS can also take it away. I just wish someone could explain to me why Irish taxi drivers want to drop control of their industry like a hot potatoe, and give it over to scumbags like Kearns Kelly, and Ebbs to run. I can't wait for the day it becomes compulsory to join one of these, and the work dries up . Drivers will still have to find 100 plus a week with little, or no work being offered, and it will all be thier own fault .

The fact that F/N and Kearns Ebbs, etc are asking you to go out and recruit new drivers so that they can compete with you and further diminish your earnings shows the level of intelligence with which these people accredit you, and the fact that some drivers will actually do it confirms their assessment of some was right

I've been at this 12 years.  I was never with a cab company, only got sumup maybe 1.5 years ago and FN maybe 8 months.   

I held out but I was losing fares when people asked if I took cards.  So Sumup.

I used to laugh when I'd see the odd person standing at the side of road looking at their phone, looking at me, looking at their phone as I drove by.  I was looking at them, thinking 'you sucker, you coulda got me'
But as it happened more and more, I realised I was the sucker, the King Cnut trying to stop the waves coming in, and I joined FN.

I use it to my advantage - often you can see the destination and then you can reject it if you want.  I barely make 'bronze' (the lowest level) each week so I'm not a fanboy.  I still do street-hails. Work smart, not hard!

If 'almost' everybody moves to FN and I don't like it, there'll always be a niche for those who want to street-hail, pay cash, be anonymous or whatever.

Watty the point I am continuesly trying to make is, you have the luxury of doing street hails now, but believe me in the not to distant future you may not have that luxury anymore. When F/Nget TOTAL control of the Irish taxi industry, they will have us ALL by the bollox. Once they get control they will have the ear of the government, añd they will insist on compulsory alignment. They will also stop you doing street work just like it is in northern Ireland, you can only do dispatchers work. You will do what your told , and be glad of it you will become their property. The government will readly agree to all this , because former minister Kelly always said he wanted all drivers aligned , and also operating cashless. The reason they will agree is the tax man will now know what you had for your breakfast your already loosing out massively on tips, and who's fault is all this ? THE DRIVERS WHO HANDED IT TO DISPATCHERS ON A PLATE

Dalymount we lost this industry the day we accepted the review .Its a pity Roys is closed as I warned against all the shit we have now and the big 3 have not come to fruition yet .Read the review and the actions .We were all to accept credit cards ,We were all to align with a dispatcher .We were to embrace off street ranking .When there are restrictions to roaduse all over the city like College Gate you will have metaxi ranking in off street carparks where customers willwalk in and hail just like the airport pick up zone .We will be a cashless society long before I retire .Kelly is a tech head he knew all about apps ,we should of suggested that the taxithingey ran an app but the idiots in the repbodies only saw this as a way for the taxi reg to know your earnings .If I was a betting man I would say the next move from metaxi will be on health and safety they will call for restricted working hours and say only an app can regulate your working hours .Just like a tacko in a truck .I could forsee every move they made because its how I would of moved if I wanted to take over the industry .

Is it cause of the recent ruling in England and places in American that uber had give employment rights to the drivers?  An are they wiping the slate clean so to speak on thr history in case of any European ruling...,?

John I agree with almost everything you said I your previous post, but one thing I STILL maintain is the main players in this industry is the drivers, and to that end we call the shots I seen a few protests in the past from taxi drivers about different things the longest lasted 1 fukjin day the government know taxi drivers ha can e no balls that any protest will be over in a matter of hours. I will NEVER understand why taxi drivers don't realize the power they have through where numbers alone. I remember us all in O Connelly at praising Frank Byrne and his colleagues now I ask myself for what ? They achieved fukk all

Can drivers not see the writing on the wall ?  Because there is a desire by drivers who are hell bent on giving control of your industry over to dispatchers, the liklehood is that the government will make this a compulsory requirement for all future, and existing deivers now let's say 2 years from now, we hit a recession and there is a very limited amount of work for drivers. At this stage , you have to remain aligned to Kearns, Kelly or Ebbs because that is the condition on which you agreed now bearing in mind there is barely enough work to sustain a few hundred drivers, YOU ARE STILL CONNITED TO PAYING THESE CUTE HOORS their extortionate weekly doury. you will have nobody to blame when your on your knees because YOU GAVE CONTROL TO ABSOLUTE SCUMBAGS. who have rode you, and continue to do so. I can not believe drivers have not got the vision to see the harm they are doing to their own industry by giving up a right to operate independently, in favour of compulsory alignment . The same applys to the app you might think things are great now, but I gaurentee you you will regret the day you gave up control of your industry. Mark my words I urge you to drop dispatchers now before it's to late.

Well the way I see it is, Leo is after being told by Brussels to make a deal with Boris your right insofar as the EU cannot be seen to concede, but Leo can concede under instruction from the EU. That way the EU saves face claiming it wasn't us that gave In to the Brits but if Ireland are ok with it then they have our blessing
