you are based in a small town, you get a trip that is a half hour away, you have to wait half an hour, then bring them back to the small town.

I agree for the example I have given but just say I'm working at night and I drive someone to their ex's or boyfriends etc who live an hour away, the fare is €100 and when we get there the ex tells them to get lost, I'm going back to the same place I picked them up, I wouldn't charge them another €100 for the return journey, I know some would though.

Depending on how regular the customer is,
If he's a decent regular customer i charg by the meter but not the waiting time if they are only going to be a hour or two, and in that hour or so id normally have something else to do inanyways.
If i dont know them then its what the meter says.

Well if you get a ride off her then only charge half of the original journey to get there

If its a street job the meter should tell you what the correct fare is.

You could decide how much per hour you like to have, and charge that, remembering to get your "off the meter" waiver signed.

Very few people will pay a quoted meter fare from say Dublin to Cork. So if it's a 7 hour return trip, ask for the hourly return you would want for 7 hours.
"So look into the mirror, do you recognise someone, is it who you always thought you would become, when you were young?"

A buddy of mine was telling me he broke down on the motorway close to Carlow, car was towed to a local garage and the insurance paid €100 towards a taxi back to Glasnevin, total fare was €160.
